I was in the Taft band in '62 & '63. By '75 the cadence had become a little jazzier, but it was essentially the same. Great to hear it again. Thanks to you and Larry Gassner.

I moved away after 8th grade. But I recognize a lot of the people in this video. Especially Burdine Wilson who I had the hots for LOL glad to see everybody's doing good. I moved to San Diego and had a great time in high school. Playing football and track
@@LisaLisaLisa1 Thank you, Lisa, I'm flattered ❤ I'm also glad I acted professionally 😂. I wasn't that much older than students at that point( I was around 25) and there were a lot of pretty girls at Taft. Temptation was everywhere! 😎
@@dalelauner1965 Based on the date you were in one of my first classes right out of college and it probably was English. Loved Ruthless People and My Cousin Vinny. They were both hilarious and original. Congrats on a fruitful career. And, I had the red Corvette.
I read today that Ozzie Smith and Eddie Murray both played on the 1973 Locke High School team. I was curious because I am pretty sure that my 1973 team played Locke in a preseason game at Locke. Curious enough to google the 1973 team and found this tribute to the '73-'75 teams. Well done and fun to watch! Thanks, Mark Abrahams
I'm glad you liked it, Mark. The '73 teams (Varsity/JV) did play Locke in the preseason in '73 and also in '74. As you probably remember, the final 2-1 playoff loss vs Monroe in '73 was played at Balboa Park. 4 games were going on at the same time. One of the other games was Kennedy vs the Smith/Murray Locke team. (Kennedy won 4-3) So, 3 future Hall of Fame Players were playing on that day at the same park. There were a number of other future MLB players also playing that day. Here's an article about it: sabr.org/journal/article/baseball-at-sepulveda-dam-one-afternoon-three-hall-of-famers/
Of course I remember the playoff game. It was a tough loss. Coach O was pissed off and told us so during the short, but uncomfortable bus ride home. I especially remember the game at Locke early in the season. While we were on the bus ready to go home, someone from Locke, maybe just a student, or a fan, or an opposing player, hopped on the bus, stood at the front, and just talked shit to us. I can’t tell you whether we won or lost, I just remember the bus incident. @@TaftHigh74
Friday afternoons down the halls and then again Friday nights at the football games. We have spirit, yes we do.. We have spirit, how about you? Good times!
There are multiple sources that support that. Ice Cube and Easy E were bussed to Taft from Compton and South Central, but Easy E dropped out in 10th grade. My name is Martin Wilhelm, I graduated from Taft in 1973 and I don’t remember any of these people. I guess that’s sad but I do remember having a great time in the marching band, played the clarinet!
I graduated from Taft in 1973. I went there for one year. I know one person from the video. I went to Birmingham for a 10th and 11th grade. I knew several people at the 50th reunion.
Joan Jett actually had 10th grade in Wheaton High School, in Maryland. That picture of her in this video comes from her Sophomore year Wheaton High yearbook. If there aren't any actual pictures of her at Taft, how are we so sure she was there? I think she was only there for GED classes, not as a regular student.
damn I'm a sophomore right now and the schools garbage right now because it's all under construction and it's crowded everywhere .looked so cool back then
Very nice tribute. Some of these people I knew from Parkman Jr. High. Some I am sorry they have passed as they were good people. There are two here that l have unpleasant memories of and will just leave it at that. 😉
If it isn't too much trouble, do you have any info on what happened to Chris Roncone? I came upon your Memoriam for the Class of 1974 and was shocked to see that he had passed. All I could find was someone with his name that had died in 1990. 34 years old.
Taft ‘86 alum here. I saw ice cube and brad wilk all the time. I know they said Jason Bateman went to Taft but I didn’t see him at all for all my 3 years there. He would have been ‘86 like me.
