Shocking to see Accrington before and after , I doubt the film maker is still with us I don't think he would be happy to see it now , where did it all go wrong? What a shame.

It sure has , my gran owned the pots and pans shop across from peel St chemist , it was a card shop before that on the right as you entered the old market on peel St. God knows why they got rid of the market, peel St is dead now it used to be bustling

It's good to see Accrington through the past and present. It's always going to be home to me even though it has gone down hill a bit. Have faith that all other places that it will come back to life again if we all work together and it comes back to a nice town again.

I have a soft spot for Accy. Born in Blackburn Infirmary (because my mum was very young) but lived in Accy until aged 11 and went to St. John's School (thank you Mrs Baron, Mrs Balderstone, Mrs Thurman, and Mr Collins). I well remember the Odeon (then the Classic) on Saturday mornings for the cartoons and dramatic kids serials. Also the swimming baths with the beautiful coloured tiles and the individual changing cubicles. I'd like to go back to have some proper meat and potato pies and dandelion and burdock. Not so sure about the weather though.

Thanks to dear old Beeching the railway station and tracks are a shadow of their former self. It was a magnificent Booking Hall with six tracks in and out of Accrington. I grew up in Spring Hill from 1937 to 1967 and have to agree, it is a tragedy what has happened to a once proud town.
@veronicacrabtreehill6608

It was originally called Alkerington. St. James's Church is a Norman church. We used to call it the River Hyndburn 'The River Stink' because that is what it did.

Watching these videos brings a sadness to mind. I was born in Accrington in 1982, I lived in Oswaldtwistle and moved to Accrington in 1990. I lived there until 2001 just off Blackburn Road. Not been back there in so long, but it's slowly got worse and worse over the years. Such a shame.

It is the town of the zombie now, 2021 and not getting any better. A mere ghost town, only the mentally ill and desperate stagger the streets and a few junkies and alcoholics. All the banks have gone , pubs are closed permanently, and i cant see it improving any time soon. Anyone with transport goes to Blackburn or Burnley to shop. It has gradually deteriorated since the 90s. It once had a booming night life but the smoking ban put a stop to that well before the carona virus.

The space age toilets on peel street killed the gay culture of the town,,,as I had many a good time at the former Gents. Both the in and outdoor markets were fabulous were one could order themselves a Coffee and or a porkpie..the railway industry at that time of the early 70s was still used by Lokal signal boxes and after 1973 was taken over by Preston Power Signal box using the remote color light system.....

nice video mate. i was born in Huncoat 1954 but my dad joined the Metropolitan police and from a year old i grew up in London. we used to come back to stay with my auntie in Oswaldtwistle and my sister and i always liked going into Accie. i remember trickets ice cream a unique taste and those lovely crimson/navy blue buses that i found out were a tribute in the colours of 'The Accrington Pals' who were decimated on the Somme 1916. i live in Liverpool now but always look out for Accrington Stanley's footie results. you can take the lad out of Accrington..but you can't take Accrington out of the Lad!
