Always well presented relaxed videos great to watch and see all those places we’ve also been with our kids and how they changed in 35 years ,happy trail😎
@robyndehavilland1609 thanks Robyn, calm and peaceful is definitely our thing! It's a beautiful part of our amazing country. All going well, we'll be back for a longer stint in a few years to do some more animal management work in the communities. 😀😀
Great camp ground especially in the months you travelled there . Was busy when we stayed at Alou Campground in 2017 but loved the position near the beach . In 2017 it cost us $100 for just a vehicle return but worth it as you said .
It is expensive to ferry across until you realise this cost also covers camping permits in council approved areas. We stayed 2 weeks at Alau...absolute heaven 🙌 hope your Cape York trip met your expectations..😊
@anjehouse9507 yup, the ferry is well worth it! The Cape was great, Punsand is also amazing! Was good to be up there while it was still pretty quiet, the weather never really came good but you can't have everything! 👍🍻
Your videos continue to be a fantastic take on doing The Cape - much more our laid back style of doing things. The Alau Beach Campground looks absolutely stunning, and based on your comments I think somewhere we'd want to spend a few days. The contrast between rainforest and the open sea is definitely marked! Given the investment in a 'trip to the tip' I don't think too many would complain about the ferry cost when considered against the total. The more we see of your take on things the more I think we need to add it to our trip list. Watched the tight tracks last week with interest as our little truck would struggle to fit through some of those spots without tree pruning (or a caravan to clear a branch or two🙂). Given your current truck (bus) build and our other comments I realised this might be of interest. We helped out an auto journo friend with a video a while back - ours is the 'baby' of the two Canters. Wifey took some drone footage too. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xWRfPuCgxhg.html Looking forward to the next instalment. Hope all is going well!
@contributor7219 what an awesome little truck! The new bus has front, rear, and centre lockers, so hopefully, this gives optimum flexibility, especially with 24 gear ratios! I'll give that video a bit more of a watch tomorrow. it looks very interesting. The Cape is well worth the trip. You don't have to do any crazy stuff to get to the tip. Pundsand Bay is also amazing, we will show that next week. Safe travels. 👍🍻
This is a wonderful video. Family love. I will be coming here. I have lots of aboriginal friends. I love that net and the boys fishing with it. I have been doing lots of jobs on my camper. I have been sewing lots. two woollen blanket cloak -3 degrees, they been great.
Hi ya, I really like your videos. So myself and my hubby are going to Karijini and we have booked the popular spots but would definitely like to stay at the spot that was the free millstream Chichester national park can you give us some directions to get to that location please as we also love our own company. 😃 Much appreciated. 👍🏻
Glad you enjoy the videos, this campsite was one of our favourite of all time! The place we stayed here is in wiki camps as "George River Remote Bush Camp" - that's the 'area' as there are a few different camps around the wiki marker. The area also changes from season to season due to flooding so it may not be the same as when we were there which was a few years ago now! I must warn you though, the track in was VERY tight and rocky, there was bits of caravan everywhere so probably a good idea to park the van at the lookout, unhitch and go in for a bit of a reconnaissance trip first as it might not be accessible to large setups. If you do manage to get into the site, it really is one of the best in Australia, so enjoy! 😀😀🍻👍
Thanks guys really look forward to your vids, you're the real deal, what a fantastic family experience to look back on, thanks again for sharing your experience.
Thanks Matt, glad you enjoyed them, we truly love the travel life and everything that goes with it. Living a minimalist lifestyle was something we never thought we would end up doing but here we are, over four years in and would not have it any other way. 😀😀🍻👍
Love it guys 😊 Me thinks you very wise choosing to not negotiate those dropin cliffs 😮 Thanks for the confirmation on Fruit bat Falls 👍 On the list now! Tania is obviously proud of the baby bump 😊 Don’t ya just love how the green ants do their thing? 🤯🫡😎👌🏼🤗😉🤩🦆
@Ducksouttheredoinit yup, we be back to the tip when we have more time to do the full OTT, but not this time! The green ant nests are fascinating, that one was gone the next morning! They jas packed up shop overnight and moved out! Hope all is well. 😀😀🍻👍
@@VetinaVan 😆 nice one LOL Maybe they couldn’t afford the rent. It is pricey up that way 😉 Hope the weather is treating you well now 🌞 We are good 🙏 Sitting it out back near Rapid Bay in a caretakers roll with some plans in the pipeline. 👍 🍻 🫢🤗🦆
Thanks for sharing your videos. I met you and your family at Archer River Roadhouse, I offered to pick up the pig on the road as long as you cooked it. Hope all is well and it’s great to watch quality videos.
@@GrabLifeByTheGourlays it was great! Would have been even better if the weather had been playing ball! But you can't have everything! Hope all it well on your adventures! 🍻🍻
@DoYouAcceptReturns this was about 2 years ago now so not sure if it has changed but Gumbanan Wilderness Retreat had an area out to the north of the camp that was locked by rocks when the tide was at a certain hight making it croc safe. 👍😀
I bet! There were a lot of graders on the road when we went up, but they were only just starting. Apparently, all those big washouts are fixed now and a lot less water. 👍👍
@pailac Thanks, we were up there for the last 2 weeks of May. It was interesting to see the difference going up vs coming back. Heaps more people heading up in early June. Then it goes crazy once the school holidays hit. 🍻👍
Thank u for sharing, Toby is gorgeous and so funny😂 sticking stickers all over his nose in the car and then at the end his bathers inside out, he makes me laugh.❤ gorgeous kids.
@@sandiberwick4428 he is such a character. We always get a laugh when we watch our in car footage as Toby is often doing something behind us. He's out little legend. 😀😀👍
@GrabLifeByTheGourlays damn, you guys were keen! We wanted to get it done before the new baby arrived! Not sure if the new truck will be too big for the old tele! Hope you guys are travelling well. 👍👍🍻🍻
@@VetinaVan Well Deb found out she was preggers with Emily the day before we left! We are travelling well thanks!👊🏽How good is it after the grader's been through? We thought the PDR corrugations were bad when we went through until we just did the Gibb! Awesome episode guys!
For some bizarre reason the idea of doing The Cape when it's wet appeals to me. Not sure why. Doubtless cleaning the first couple of inches of red mud off everything would soon rid me of that compulsion! I didn't realise the PDR had so much black top though. We'd be inclined to relax and take our time too and just see what the place has to offer. It must have been so tempting to try to break the speed record, your vehicle/van, and/or the record for the highest towing bill by belting through that water crossing - how on earth did you resist? 🙄 Love the 'hamster cupboard' (of course) and we are frequent users of the term: 'to hamster away' in our own pantry. Looking forward to the next one. Safe travels.
@contributor7219 we are far tp boring to do any of that 'cool' stuff!! We love just taking our time nice and slowly, never in a rush to get anywhere. So much easier in the car and van if you take things slow! Although sometimes it is tempting to 'send it', however, common sense usually prevails! 😀👍
@Scalihoo yup the cruiser and lotus ate up the PDR no dramas, would have loved to have done some more of the old telegraph track but we didn't organise a convoy. Leave something for next time! 🍻🍻🍻
@craigtomkinson2837 thanks mate, it's a great part of the country. And we got some great contacts for next time. Hopefully to get out to the remote communities to do some animal management work. 👍👍
With any luck the weather did 'break' once you crossed the ranges on the PDR. It's one thing to have a dry and cosy space to escape the rain, quite another when you have to spend most of your time doing so. Definitely one of those 'that wasn't in the brochure!' times on the trip to 'warmer' places. It still looks very pretty though, despite the rain, and it's great to see someone doing this as a touring journey. That was impressive shopping tetrising, especially carrying a fast-growing little one! 😳 Hopefully all is going as expected and everyone is as happy and well as possible while you are on the road. I'm sure the early nappy trauma will pass as quickly as it comes on 🙂 Rocky Creek will be on our list I think. When I was still studying we had a training sergeant who had served in the Cavalry in Vietnam, but never spoke about his experiences. One Saturday afternoon three of us had our heads down in books in our common room and he came and sat with us. For reasons we never discovered he opened up to us just that once and there wasn't a dry eye in the house. I can't visit a memorial without thinking of him and the friends he lost, or that afternoon, despite the passage of more than 40 years. Thank-you for taking the time out to remember, and to share that moment with us all 🙏🏻
@contributor7219 we have my great uncles transcripts from when he fought in the trenches at the battle of the Somme. He was very young, and the words he wrote were so raw and real, impossible to comprehend for someone to experience that so young. We make sure the boys know and understand the sacrifice so many made for our freedom. Tania is doing well, big as a house now! Not sure if we remember the nappie change routine, but we'll learn again, I have no doubt! 😀👍
@@VetinaVan Records like that, especially those which give us insight into what it was like to be so young and face such terrible ordeals, are priceless reminders of the very human (and indeed animal) cost that is paid in all wars. May we never forget, and if only we could relegate such conflicts purely to historical footnotes. It's great to hear all are doing well. Safe travels.
How good is the rain. Makes everything nice and green but not ideal when we have been trying to show some WA friends our beautiful tropical part of the world. We’ve never had any luck with Sapphires either but loved the lava tubes. A place above Mount Surprise called Obriens creek is great to swim in when the creek is flowing and we did find some sapphire stones there. Safe travels.
@hapninemptynesters the Queensland outback was looking more like New Zealand dairy country when we came through, everything was so green! Out gem fossiking thus far for our entire trip has fallen short of our expectations, but there is always more time to turn that around! Safe travels. 👍👍🍻😀
@@travelthecountry-aussieadv1730 we were so very lucky to see all that water flowing down the gorges, something we will remember forever! Just so lucky to live in such a beautiful country. 👍👍😀😀
@@Frizzneck just 2 D batteries and it lasts for probably half a dozen cookups. Its an Auspit, does the job. We use it at least once a week when fires are allowed. 👍👍🍻
Gee, nice to see the weather cooperating and making the 'outdoors lifestyle' such a joy! Queensland is really bunging on the welcome there 🙄 The lava tubes look amazing though and being able to see the path of the lava flows by the colour of the foliage is something that never even occurred to me until you mentioned it. We might have to venture to that part of the world if we ever decide to do The Cape as wifey loves her fossicking too. Was that a Bettong early in the video? It was very cute whatever it was. Hope all is going well with the new family addition and with the truck (bus) build as well. Looking forward to the next episode as always.
@contributor7219 it could have been a bettong, we did not get a long look at it. If all goes well, we should get the bus in October, hopefully sooner as once the baby comes, we don't have transport until the bus is finished!! Tania is doing well, very pregnant now! 👍😀
I missed the reveal but a Bus ! Wow, this will be different. Very cool. PS, we’re in the hills on the Sunshine Coast and yes, all of this back country is stunning.
Haha, yeh we didn't really make a big thing of it. The bus is still being built, probably get in October if all goes well! And yup, it will be quite unique! 🍻🍻
