Love the broder cards. I have a few yet, mostly of Henderson since I loved him. The broder cards seemed to symbolize market saturation at that point. Teddy Higuera had 4 straight solid years in the 80s. Mexican pitching hero, low market team but he was very good. I grew up in Milwaukee.
Congrats. Did u crack slabs and submit for regrade? I have psa 8 graded Jordan fleer but think it could be higher. Any advice on what I should do? (The psa grade doesn’t have a hologram so assuming it was graded a while back).
Thanks for the note. I have never cracked a slab, don't trust myself to do that safely. I would never crack out an 8, but if you think it is worth the risk and can do it safely, it may be worth a shot. These three cards were the first three I graded with PSA in 2020 - I had carried around the Jordan's with me through various moves.
I played against Desi in college. Same conference (NEC) I hit a rising line drive to right and he jumped about 11 feet in the air and stole a double from me with a snow cone catch. 😫 I messaged him recently on LinkedIn and we were laughing about it. I also saw him hit some of the most scorched line drives I’d ever seen, including one that almost took our #1 pitchers head off. Always smiling and you could tell that he loved the game. Obviously an incredible athlete and nice guy. I’m sure like a lot of other guys that competed against him, I was glad that he made it all the way to the show and that he’s still working in the game now.
I am not sure of his history in the industry. For the most part he and his team are directionally correct but they are not perfect and you need to keep that in mind. The grades for Tony Esposito (NM or Better), Brad Park (NM), Mikita (NM) were 2 grades off. He also gets a premium in his auctions and given the high cost of grading it isn't worth the effort to grade and flip anymore. If you are buying for your PC, you can argue that the premium is OK.
I've sent off a few orders to PSA recently, almost all baseball cards with a few football. Mostly Bowman Chrome stuff of prospects I'm hoping will be more valuable in the next few years. I'm hoping to make enough that I can finally pick up a good Bedard card. I'm hoping when SPA and OPC Platinum come out his outburst YGs will drop in value a bit. Here's hoping!
For me, I joined the collectors club to get my football cards I collected in the 70s and 80s graded to sell. My membership expires in 22 days, and I have a 58 card order that is supposed to be ready on July, 22nd. I don’t plan to renew. I think I did well on most of the cards, that I turned in on my first order, but I’m mot optimistic on my outstanding order because my second order of 2 Payton rookies was disappointing. I was lucky enough to get a Payton rookie from a pack in the 90s that only came back a 5. It went straight into a sleeve and cards saver. I’ve seen cards with dinged corners that are 5. My other Payton got a 6 and it was not straight from a pack. 🤷🏻♂️ I think PSA has gotten a lot thougher on grading and people are getting cards back lately that are falling into mid grades, like my card and are harder to resell, or just not getting the prices they want. I’m waiting on football season to list them in hopes there will be a little bump.
2:33 thank you for the insights. Every other talking head just regurgitates the same info. “June has 3 less days …” Bull 🐂 💩 I’m grading and selling more flipping. I joined Collectors in March and stopped using a subber. Now I grade to sell. It more using my knowledge for profit now.
So many reasons - they're beautiful cards, I have fond memories of collecting and flipping/scaling cards when in 6th grade, Rod Carew and Dave Parker are awesome.
I guess we'll see. It's bold of you to put your take out there - I'll give you that. I think roster construction was equally to blame with Keefe for the TML failures. NYI got a good coach in Roy, it was great move by Lou. I can see how you might be extra critical of NJ's move with that recent event. But regarding NJ: Step one is make the playoffs with a young roster, and Sheldon has proven he can at least do that in spades. Coaches also do better with their second NHL teams historically. I believe Sheldon learned a lot from his past mistakes and will be able to make better decisions with a clean slate.
Thanks for all of the thoughts. As with anything, we will have to see how this video ages. The jury is still out on Roy so I am not comparing the two. Naturally I hope he leads the Islanders to the promised land but the roster construction appears to be a problem. My impetus here was that I thought Keefe should have been fired well before this offseason and the fact that he immediately got hired again blew my mind.
they probs want a coach before the draft also he most likly will get a young core to the playoff and alot of the playoff losses are on him and his stars just not showing up but he is a good coach for younger teams i think
Really enjoy these. To answer your question, no, it's probably not time to buy Bedard cards, unless they're far more rare than the Young Guns or SP1 cards seem to be. Like, if you're interested in one of his numbered OPC cards, those are probably pretty stable at this point, considering they've been out for while and they've had time to react to all the other, bigger Bedard cards entering the market. I'm curious what a Bedard Future Watch Auto is going to go for. You can get Ovechkin FWAs for around $5K (still too rich for me, sadly) to put this into some context. I'm thinking that's probably where the card starts; somewhere around $5K.
I will be looking to get a variant like Outburst or Silver Foil (from epack). Given trends from past YGs, I am thinking the summer of 2026 (about two years+ from release) might be the best time to buy.
He is showing some life in the playoffs. Doesn't change my opinion on anything though! I wish you the best of luck with the Rangers even though I continue to hate them 😀
@@cacsports It's crazy, seems like yesterday and at the same time a lifetime ago, watching them win the Cup. On a separate note I just got back into cards and saw that there were issues with the Young Guns that year with "rounded" corners. Is that true?
@@monkabuda It has been a long time. Upper Deck has had quality control issues over the past few years, you can see it in some of the numbers where 10s are hard to get. 2021 Series 1 and all of 2022 YG were rough. I think there were some issues with Lafreniere's cards but am not 100% sure about the corner thing.
Supply of all high value cards go "immediately into grading". Yeah we're not in 1989 anymore. Also, how can you say that being an "impressive rookie in the NHL... isn't going to matter for his cards". That is pure falsehood, objectively. Who could possibly agree with that?
It is pretty simple, the supply of his cards is so high that it will nullify what he does on the ice. He could lead the league in scoring next year and the massive supply in the market will prevent the price from going up. Pure economics. If you think I am wrong, buy a bunch and see what happens - report back.
Collectors club isnt worth it unless you submit under bulk specials. Also the PSA magazine has a lot of interesting articles about the hobby. Its worth spending an hour looking through each issue to stay up to date with cards
Yeah, you need to submit a lot of cards for the price to make sense, it used to for me but doesnt going forward. I've tried so hard to read it but the articles always bore me.
Young guns are the bread and butter of the hobby. Affordable and popular with the public and masses. That’s not going to change. Numbered Exclusive and high gloss young guns have much more higher ceiling then the regular base young gun. Always.
I have used PC Sportscards for a while. I found them on Blowout and they are very active there. Prices are cheaper than I can get myself and the grading results have likely been higher than I would get as my own submitter. They are the #1 submitter to PSA. Submitting is easy and they have a helpful dashboard for tracking your submissions. I won’t go anywhere else.
I understand. I'd check with Mike O for submissions. I think he is SGC and PSA and well known in the hobby. I use a friend out of Orlando, Lineage Sports Cards. However, I did sign up in March right before the price increase and I love it. I have 140 cards at PSA now and plan to send cards every month. Plus I love the break credits. But as I said, I understand and I agree the book is worthless except on ebay. I think you can resell them ;)
Was lucky enough to find 2 Megas earlier this month in a Target. Got his Draft pick and Glossy. Was so happy. Figured I wasn’t going to pay hundreds in markup to chase him. But my card shop had a few tins come in, so I bought one. Got an Orange Dazzler!! Which getting 3 was amazing and I couldn’t be happier…until my first pack…bam!! I hit it!! I was over the moon excited. It’s def PC, and as a Chicago fan it’s so hard lately to have PC 😩 GL everyone. What a day 😀
@@Mattymatty2000 Monte is helpful even when we are not filming too! Thanks for the notes - I hate that Ciccarelli is in a Caps uniform as the North Stars uni would have been striking in that card
After saying I was absolutely going to buy Bedard when it came out, I haven't. I'm still planning on getting something, but I'm being more choosey and strategic about what that will be than I anticipated I would be. Maybe it's just that I don't want to lose $1,000. Who knows! Thanks for the video!
CGC needs more value love. The serious collector should appreciate the more accurate grading and consistent grading. The slabs, bar none, are the best in the biz.
