Great, it's about time. The best , warmest winter boot in the world. I can still remember those cold dark nights in Korea, with the strong cold winds whipping down out of Manchuria, and my feet were so warm, they sweat. The rest of my body sucked, but my feet were happy.
Better. At least it's puttig a damper on the fanboy nonsense. The air space in the heel is a concern esepcially with a heavier person or a person hauling a-lot. That's going to have the same flex point splitting problem as the original Sorel RBLTs had. Perhaps you could offer some gaiters for your new bunny boots. Gaiters are the tube pouch like material that hook onto cross country ski boots or laced winter boots and up your leg to keep out snow and water as well as act like a wind break. It wouldn't be too dificult to have a silicone seal on the boots end of the gaiters. In general it's more flexible than full height winter boot like those by Muck brand or adding waders to the outfit. I figured that even if i forgot about the bunny boot valve being open the gaiter would keep it sealed from water getting in and it does. It's what in general Gaiters are for anyway. Come to think of it the ancient Egyptians had gaiters to keep the sand out of their shoes. If it's good enough for 3500+ years ago why not modern times? Here is a video on gaiters: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZAOEp6r4MmM.html&pp=ygUZY3Jvc3MgY291bnRyeSBza2kgZ2FpdGVycw%3D%3D
I also got my first pair of bunny boots as a kid in north pole alaska during the pipeline. I know cold. The rest of my teen yearsi lived south of buffalo ny, outdoors butt deep in snow. Mom bought moon boots and such but i always went back to bunnys. No i live near fort drum ny, i work outside all winter still wearing issed mickey mouse boots.
One of the best features of the original boots was how flexible they are around the ankle and gusset. You can work or walk distance in them without chafing or blistering. The copies I have tried are way too stiff.
I spent 18 months at Site Summit, just outside of ft. Richardson AK. I lived in my white micky mouse boots. I have a friend who lives in Anchorage, (former Army buddy from Site Summit) and he spends a lot of time outdoors . If you need a nomination, I can get his name to you.
Great to hear!! Love the old military bunny boots but they are quite outdated. I dont live in alaska but i live in upstate NY and we ice fish alot. Growing up here alot of the old timers wore them on lake george, lake champlain ice fishing. We had overnights on the ice that reached -38 degrees. Which is probably a norm in alaska but i can see these boots being great for harsh winters up here. Would love to try a pair! 🥶💨
We called them Mickey mouse boots in the 70s while stationed in Germany on Czech border in the US Army Infantry. Id like to try those out running my snowblower this winter.
FINALLY! This age-old question has been question has been answered. Now I will not have any more restless nights pondering this vary topic. I wrote this comment because I can. :)
Would be interesting if there was a BOA version for quick on and off use applications, like snowboarding, or a velcro version for people with diabetes (i.e. bad circulation)
I grew up in alaska in the 70s fairbanks. These boots saved my toes one day. Long story. I got frostbite on my nose chin cheeks and ears but not my feet or hands. I had buuny boots a friend loaned me and army surplus insulated gloves. Best goddamn boots made for cold weather. Ive worn then at 80 below zero out at moose creek alaska 75 below in north pole. Never an issue. Will be getting some new ones.
Okay, but what materials are the new boots made of? Is the interior of the boot (where the insulation is) completely sealed? And why did you ditch the air vent? We need more information, please!
@sockeyesalmonslayer I'm aware of that... Doesn't answer why it was taken away... My point is, either they took it away because the inside of the boot (where the insulation is) is not sealed from the exterior air (which was like the whole point of the origional bunny boot) or they will inflate at higher altitude. Now, it may be the case that since they're not being made for the military (like the origionals were) they didn't think the valve was nessicary, but that may make it so that bush pilots can't wear them during flight which seems to cut out a portion of their market. Although I don't know if it is necessary to have vents at the altitude that bush pilots fly. However if it is... seems like they should have figured out how to implement the valve instead of making a gimmicky design, keeping the popular esthetic of the original boot while taking away the functionality of that thing that even made the esthetic exist in the first place. Makes it look like the entire boot is a gimmick, especially if they don't adress the questions I posed!
This is great! Love the new boot with improved design. I agree with other comments I’d rather a solid sole with improved durability than extra air insulation with a chance of puncture or wear through! Having used my bunnies at work doing construction and as my go to boot for all winter activities I can imagine a nail, running board, sharp stick etc. poking a hole in the bottom, creating a ICE CUBE TRAY in my boot. Love that you have a super thick insole! I emailed too hope I’m chosen out of the 10k applicants but regardless can’t wait to buy them! Would love side by side pictures!
Love to see it. I’ve already emailed but I think you guys would be missing out if you don’t do some kinda ski appropriate welting. Finnish Nokian boot. Also the reasons the Batas are top tier is how soft and pliable they are around the ankle/gusset. I hope AGCs are similar!
