I recommend a non-stretch fabric like, cotton, satin, silk, linen ect. A stretch fabric will be very tricky to work with especially along the curved seams and back zipper. If you do decide to sew with a stretch fabric you will need to make sure you make all the appropriate adjustments needed.
@@elvirad4545 I'm 172 cm tall, so you may want to lengthen the skirt by a few cm. You could cut the bottom edge a few cm longer, and you can measure the center front of the skirt and compare it to your measurement (from underbust to where you want the skirt to end) and extend it. Remember to leave room for a hem ☺
I have problems with the seam allowance. After sewing the gusset to the right side of the sleeve I have overlapping seam allowance and don’t know how to flat fell it
I suppose if your fabric is long/wide enough you could cut the waistline deeper. Or you could just cut 2 circle skirts and gather it all down, or just gather down instead of pleats. Lots of options, it's mostly up to your creativity. I have a video that makes a ballgown style dress if that's what you had in mind.
This dress pattern is meant for someone with a bust size between 32 and 46 inches, and this pattern has more of a 'Balconette' shape. I have a new Regency Dress pattern called 'Mix and Match' and it fits bust sizes 30 to 48 inches. I am currently working on expanded sizing for plus sizes for my 'Mix and Match' pattern. You can check out videos for it on youtube. This dress is an empire style dress, so fit mostly matters at the bust and underbust. Hips and waist are free. And you can adjust the skirt length to your height as needed. I love a Regency dress on any body shape, but I adore the Regency silhouette of an empire waist gown. If you're interested in making a regency dress I recommend checking out my 'Mix and Match Regency Dress Pattern'. It has the most variation and more videos showing the sewing process. The bodice should also be the easiest to fit. I hope this helps!
That pattern is available in my Etsy and I have a Video for it as well :) It does take alot of elastic and can be quite challenging, but it is very cute! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LeVSvyfT8N0.htmlsi=Svdq5qPvboa89TqG
Thank you so so so so sooooo much. I just finished making it and I’m soooo happy it turned out soo good. The instructions and patterns were so clear and accurate.
I’m not sure what you mean. It could be pins to secure the fabric to the cotton interlining, or chalk to draw darts. If you could be more specific that would help me.
At the 2:29 minute marker there is a quick example of the flutter sleeve made in a striped cotton fabric and the bottom edge finished with binding. Right now that is the only example i have on video. I hope this helps!
Did you cut out size labeled 36? If you want the bodice very fitted you can test size 34. Make sure you followed the correct lines- sometimes it gets confusing following the lines. If necessary you can tweak the bodice, like lengthening the straps to help is sit lower. If you’re still struggling you can try sending some photos on Etsy and I’ll take a look.
@@genniferwest I'm glad you got it sorted! Sorry I couldn't be more help, it's so tricky when I can't see! I hope it's smooth sailing from here on out for you!
Have you ever tried Lucrezia Borgia's dresses? I really love them, but the bodice part is a challenge to me, they look so tight and they also seem to give a lot of support. I would like to see some similar pattern
Good patterns looks amazing. One little thing Re-gent-see Other than that i adore this video and i love your inclusion of flutter sleeves. I hardly ever see them in regency patterns
It sounds like you are pronouncing it "reh-gen-cee" which is incorrect. It's pronounced "ree-gen-cee", the first e is long and elegant. However, the dress is beautiful, you are very talented!
Gorgeous:) i was wondering, from my solid colour i have around 2.5M fabric, if i could copy the front skirt to the back, and with my see through overlayer make the pleads ? (I have 4m of that one) in order to be able to make it?
I couldn't say, I have never tested this. You could lay the pattern piece out and mark it with pins or chalk and see if you can get both to fit. I would also check the waist line measurement. The two things to consider is getting enough skirt to go around the bodice, and if it can fit on 2.5 meters of fabric. I think 2.5 won't be enough, especialy if you're cutting the bodice pieces and sleeves from the solid fabric. Maybe 3 or 3.5 meters would be enough? but this is only a guess, I can't say for sure. Check the measurements and Lay the pattern pieces out and see if you can tetris it to fit. Good Luck!
Looks really good. I have got a question though. I,m getting married and I,m making my own wedding dress. I got a similar pattern but I,m not really happy with the fit and I,m considering buying your pattern to use cause it seems more professional. Can I ask how much main fabric you need for size 18 uk? Anyway thanks in advance ☺️
Thank you! 😊I'm not very familiar with UK sizing, but if your bust is around 42 inches you will need about 7 meters of fabric if you want a dress like the one in this video. I used 7 meters to make this dress. If your fabric has a design or pattern, or a narrow width, or you're rather tall, you might need a little extra. You will also want about 1/2 meter of cotton for interlining the bodice. I hope this helps!
Got this in my recommended and clicked on it bcs I remembered your Bridgerton dress from a couple years ago just to see you posted so many other tutorials as well! What amazing work in such a short time!
This is so amazing! I was just finishing up my set of stays (also your pattern!) and was getting ready to make the dress, but was having a difficult time finding the specific pattern I wanted. I am so excited to get started with this!
Thank you for giving my patterns a go! 💓 I hope the stays worked well for you! Hopefully this pattern has what you were looking for, it certainly has a lot of pieces!
@@KittyJBerry the stays worked beautifully! I usually have a difficult time finding patterns that work cause my bust measurement is about 16" more than my waist 😅 but your pattern worked perfectly!
@@samwhiffin I am so so happy to hear that!!☺ It can be tricky getting things to fit just right, i guess that's the beauty and the pain of sewing your own things 😅 but I am so happy to hear the stays worked out! If I can help at all with the dress let me know 💓
I just wanted to say, I love your videos and your patterns are awesome, I'm going to buy this pattern. I was wondering if you could actually make a lace up example with this pattern. It would be very helpful
Thank you so much for giving this pattern a go! I might make a lace up example down the road. I think it would be easy enough to make a dress with a lace up / corset style back. I would make the bodice with the cotton interlining for sure (to support the eyelets). Then I would finish up the back as usual - adding the lining. Then I would use an awl to poke holes into the center back and add eyelets using eyelet Pliers. I think I would add several 4mm or 5mm eyelets up and down both sides- I've always been partial to the Prym Eyelet Pliers and Eyelets with Washers. Then you could just use ribbon to tie it up. Of course hand-sewing eyelets would be a lovely historical way to add eyelets. Thank you for your suggestion! I will certainly have to see if I can work on a lace up example in the future!
