Welcome to Scotch on the Bayou - where we explore the wonders of Scotch whisky 🥃 and the flavor of life in 🐊 Louisiana. On this channel I will: •\tReview expressions of scotch, primarily single malt scotch whisky. •\tDive into educational topics about whisky. •\tShare the bounty of culture of Louisiana. •\tFeature my travels through Scotland. •\tShow that whisky is not pretentious nor is it only a "man's drink." Whisky is the aquavitae - water of life - for those of age to appreciate and enjoy, responsibly.
Aww …. Lee Ann , Thank you soooooo much! I’m so sorry I couldn’t join in when you were live! This replay has been so heart warming! I have had the absolute pleasure to know John since back since 2017. Without a doubt …. The Islay Whisky Academy has made such a positive impact in my life! I can’t begin to mention all the wonderful people that I met that week, AND CONTINUE to stay in touch with AND ALL OF YOU to this day What an AMAZING Experience! Thank you so much Rachel MacNeill! 🤗 Slàinte Mhath ❤️🏴🥃😉
Thanks for watching the replay and the comment, Chris! Isn't it amazing the number of friendships (including ours) that have come from the Islay Whisky Academy?!? John is such a wonderful soul and his passion for whisky helps us all. Cheers, my friend!🥃🐊
Special thanks to Gabe, Alex and Naimh for the invitation to a spectacular dinner in the Rex Room at Antoine's during the 2024 Tales of the Cocktail! What an amazing night sampling Balcones special releases. The Live Oak was totally my jam. They continue to level up their American Single Malt whisky offerings. The Live Oak was particularly well balanced and the De Colores very interesting and unique.
Thanks for watching the video and your comment! The Academy is an amazing experience. Highly recommended. I didn't go to Skye that trip but have been there a couple of times, including last summer. It's a magical place, for sure.
What a great show! Here are the links to the Islay Whisky Academy, Whisky Affinity class and Beyond the Barley Whisky graphic novel. Cheers! Just subscribed and saw this live with Alasdair Day. I recently tried Isle or Raasay and was very impressed. In fact ended up buying 4 of the 6 Na Sia. (not the Rye, but may pick those up as well). Great content and glad I was pointed to your channel.
Awesome, thank you! Appreciate the support and your comments. Raasay is making some wonderful whisky, especially when you see how young it is. Alasdair is a blending magician and does his voodoo to create a lot of depth to the flavors. I just picked up the unpeateded Chinkapin and Bourdeaux. Excited to try those out. Thanks again! 🥃
I would also suggest including Kilchoman 100% Islay barley. They grow the barley themselves on land around the distillery, floor malt, and lightly peat it in-house. My favorite Kilchoman 😊
Thanks! I've been busy during the break but I'm missing my Tuesday night folks! Hope all is well with you! Stay tuned for the summer show schedule! Cheers!
Replay time! Thanks as always for sharing Lee Ann. Have tried several whiskies from new (est. after 2010) distilleries and there is some great stuff available. Slàinte mhath
Frank! Yes, I'm so impressed with these newer distilleries. Also, look for news on some shows this summer that ARE at a decent time for YOU! Hope you can join us. Thanks for all the support!
Had to catch this on the replay. I had a taste of the Hearch and was really impressed, it was not what I expected. Lochlea & Raasay making great whisky as well.
Glad you enjoyed it! I want to delve more into peat sustainability as it takes forever to be made yet we want to use it now in our smoky, earthy drams. Appreciate the support. Be on the lookout for notice of live shows this summer at a decent timezone for you! Super excited about my future guests! Thanks again Fraser! 🥃🐊
Hi Lee Ann , just catching up on the replay and I see you trying the Annandale sample I gave you. You were spot on !! It was indeed a first fill Oloroso Sherry butt. Glad you enjoyed it.
Thanks so much for sharing it! I was saving it and the others from Glasgow for just this occassion. I appreciate the whisky and support, my friend! I will be on the lookout for more from Annandale as we NEVER get that over here in the States. Cheers! 🥃🐊
Hey Lee Ann! Just catching up on this weeks RU-vid live shows. So happy the Ardna Maderia went down so well - and your right on the "middle" annotation. I got into the habit of taking samples of my own bottles when they hit that perfect spot, and sometimes beyond, so I could test against how the bottle was oxidising. Appologies for my terrible hand-writing too, haha! Slainte mhath!
Rob! Thanks so much for the sample and yeah, it was spectacular. Glad if figured out the "middle" and good on you for making the notation. Provides a lot of context, ya know. Many thanks and I appreciate you watching the channel. Cheers, my friend! 🥃
Thanks so much, Colin! I'm so happy you liked the video and hope you got some good information. Thank you for the "Super" support! Be on the watch for Sunday live shows this summer that should be better for your time zone. We'd love for you to join us. Slainte! 🥃
Replay time! Thanks as always for sharing, Lee Ann Little later in the evening than usual for me, but already fully lived up to the theme (three sample bottles emptied). I prefer to seal using plumbers tape (don't know the correct English name, but I mean the thin white tape plumbers use to seal a coupling) between lit and bottle. Works way better than any! seal on the outside of the lit. And extra advantage: no peeling off problems. Slàinte mhath
Frank! Plumber's tape is what we call it too! Or Teflon tape. That's a good one. And much easier to find than Parafilm. What 3 samples did you have? Also, I'll have some Sunday live shows coming up this summer that will be better for your time zone! Hope you can join us then but know how much I appreciate you watching the reply. You are the best! Slainte Y'all! 🥃🐊
@@ScotchontheBayou Would be great if the Sunday live shows are ... er... within my possibilities. But work continues as my own 'summer holidays' are during Fèis Íle... But we'll see. Don't know anymore what the aamples were. Most likely took them with me from a festival the weekend before... and had to empty them to take with me to Limburg (upcoming weekend). Slàinte mhath
@@peathead4450 Got ya! Enjoy Limburg! That's a festival on my bucket list. Perhaps one day I'll attend that one. And have a blast at Fèis Íle, too. Again... perhaps one day. 🥃
@@ScotchontheBayou It's my first time, so only from hearsay I think I got a glimpse on what to expect.... Heading there with a mix of curiosity and excitement 🤗
Sorry I missed the live stream - I'm doing a training course this week and need to get up earlier than usual... (well, it seems early to me!), so I've been going to bed early too. Greg explained about the whisky he blended (from a range of casks, but still technically a single malt) a couple of years ago: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-VS7Rg6loKdM.html&pp=ygUdZ3JlZydzIHdoaXNreSBndWlkZSBub3J0aG1hZW4%3D. I had to buy a bottle from a French company and import it so I could try it. Also sorry I missed the chat: I could have told @Peter Newton that I have English, French, Czech and German whiskies that could match his heritage...
No worries Andrew! Join us when you can. Thanks for the information about the french whisky. It was definitely interesting. That's the beauty about sharing samples. There is no way I would have EVER been able to try that without your generocity! Cheers!
Thanks a lot for the kind words!!! So the mystery Ardnamurchan is the SMWS Fire Festival. It was (to my knowledge) a UK/Europe release only for the 40th year celebrations of the SMWS. It is a heavily peated Ardnamurchan matured for 7 years on a Oloroso Butt. On a blind taste I reckon few people linked it to Ardnamurchan. Fun fact? On a Ardnamurchan tasting at the SMWS Bath Street, it ranked last because it is not a typical Ardnamurchan. (Only me and another member thought it was the number 1 dram)
Oh Carlos, that was on INTERESTING dram! But I really did like it. I get Ardna on the finish but not so much on the nose or palate. Crazy. Sounds like we both liked it a lot. Thanks again for sharing it with me and for your patience on my trying it. I wanted to give it its due and highlight it on the show. Take care my friend! 🥃😍
