I am a former university professor of theatre technology and design, now retired after 34 years of teaching. I was at Mount Royal University in Calgary for 25 years, 11 of which I Chaired the Department of Theatre, Speech and Music Performance. After retiring in 2014, I sold guitars at Long & McQuade Musical Instruments for two and a half years mostly because I love the guitar so much. Now that I'm retired I spend time playing my guitars, collecting fountain pens and creating RU-vid videos!

I'm in a dilema, between buying the e95s Medium or buying 3 $usd pens, like p20, hongdian N12, M800. 🤔 quality or quantity I already have asvine v126, wing sung 630, T1, lamy safary, Jinhao 6019.
Sorry Doug, I had too much going on to catch the stream live, but have since watched the replay. The thing I found the most interesting was when you mentioned wanting to remove the nib/feed from the Pilot E95s. I've been wanting to do that myself so I could give mine a deep cleaning. The problem I'm having is figuring out the dimensions to use to fabricate my own tool, which you happened to mention as well. It was some time back I found this very interesting video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LPCr63pSJhE.html ! I'm not sure if you've seen it or not, and it goes into good detail on disassembly/reassembly (but no tool dimensions). And then I saw this video and the tool this person fabricated to accomplish the same task: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-W4DlDXTogSQ.html ! Maybe these videos will be a big help to you!
@@InkquiringMinds As the expedient, I'm thinking of grinding the end of a pair of tweezers, but at some point I think I'd rather have it as a stainless steel tube!!
Thanks Doug sir for all your answers.. it was a lol moment for me when I realised later that i was not live and in sync until at the end of session when putting comments
Hello! I have been looking for this exact video to help out with that darn circle, and it worked! Thank you a lot, but I have just one question. As you began drawing again on the video after removing the press and hold setting, I see that a white ring follows your pen when you do anything. Is there any way you know of to get rid of the white ring following the pen? Again, thank you for this video and for your time reading :)
Thank you so much for mentioning the Pelikan Hub. I just registered. I live in Switzerland and will be on a business trip in Japan that day. Luckily there is an Hub event in the exact city!
Hello, thank you for all this great content. I have a question to this Jinhao 9019 DADAO: I have two and both have a hard time starting writing. I need quite a bit pressure every stroke that they are writing. Is this a common thing? What could it be and how can I fix that? Thank you very much.
Hey there, Doug. Didn’t know you did live streams. Have I been sleeping? Anyway, happy to join the channel during the live stream and thanks for the shout out. Love your content!
Thank you for this video. I love my Twsbi pens but if these pens are pretty much the same I might go for the more economically smart choice, all things being considered. Appreciate you!
This was a wonderful review! So glad to have come across this video. I have had this pen sitting in my cart for a few days and while I know I’m going to buy it I’m still watching for reviews.
Great review. I have three of these - one is black, one is the Tokyo and last the platinum one. The Sailor nibs are amazing. At least one of them is always inked.
Great video, Doug! I have been debating buying this pen, as I already daily pocket carry a black Al-Sport that I have fitted out with one of Kaweco’s “premium” nibs or my E95s clipped by the bottom button of a polo. This pen just looks so much more upscale than the standard Al-Sports and Classics. I’m a user, not a collector, so I don’t buy many expensive pens and tend to lean towards pocket pens more than longer pens because I have been in outside sales for 30 years and the pocket format works best for me and my analog way of doing things. I think your video has moved me off the fence to go ahead and get one to put in the rotation. Keep bringing the great vids!
It’s a garbage pen as you cannot change the nib in it. It doesn’t come out at all so you’re forever stuck with the nib the pen came with. If it breaks tough s-hit. It neither unscrews nor pulls out. My pen is brand new so it’s not damaged. It’s just the stupid Chinese can’t make a pen that makes sense.
Here is an update. I received the 9013. I converted it to an eyedropper. It holds about 3.75ml of ink! It should last me throughout the summer and a bit longer. The converter still rattles using the standard Jinhao converter and it doesn't have the ink capacity of the 9016 or the 9019. The price of the pen is extremely reasonable. Nice in the hand. The Heartbeat nib is still wet but now I have enough ink to go with this wet writer
I just got the Pixel 8 Pro. Transferring data was such a breeze. I only have 256gb storage and it will not take a micro SD card that I used extensively for my tunes - about 3000 of my faves. The camera, though is superb! Good luck with the iPhone 15 Pro.
I just recently bought JINHAO 159. But I am not sure the difference between JINHAO 159 and JINHAO X159. Now I know the difference. When I look at these two, JINHAOJINHAO X159 looks cheap, and I can uncap by one and quarter turn. Maybe there was update on JINHAO159.
I love to watch this video and knowing people likes this pen! thank you! I uesed to only bought pen which brand from US or EU,and my best favorate pen is also pelikan m800,it is make me feel it is so valueble when I holding it ....but I realized some westren people they also like jinhao and hongdian, those Chinese brands,so I have try some (it is fuuny ,because I am a Chinase),and I must say, hongdian is really well quality in chinese brands, but still need to improve alot, forexample the nib,now the nibs of hongdian are very good to writing .but need more detaling work, and it still lack of very well golder nibs,I hope hongdina will make more improvment in the next, and thanks for sharing!
