If you’re in Northeast Ohio and want to kayak fish the big waters of Lake Erie, there is only one guy - Chuck Earls. Chuck has been fishing Ohio waters for over three decades and is known for three things: Safety, extreme weather fishing, and catching monster walleye! Chuck is a licensed Lake Erie Kayak Fishing guide, RU-vidr, Podcaster, storyteller, Cold Water Kayak safety expert, and kayak outfitter. When you fish with Chuck, you get a lot of information to help you build your angling skills. He takes the time to explain the “why” not just the “how.” He targets walleye, steelhead, and smallmouth bass although when you love to fish as much as Chuck does the species is secondary. Chuck is a member of USA Kayak Fishing Team, Team Native Watercraft, Team Torqeedo, and Team YakAttack and is also a FishUSA ProStaffer. Chuck took his love for kayak fishing up another level in 2022 by adding a new kayak division to the 2022 Fall Brawl and the Lake Erie Walleye Trail.
New 23 molds! That's quite a bit for medium-sized company. I really like Yakattack products. I'm in the Automotive industry and had about 90 molds to put in production in about a year and half. Molding trials everyday 😆 Awesome video!
@@lowlifeangler Our founder comes from the automotive industry and that game can be super tough. He would tell us stores about an auto company running out of product and they would have to fly a suitcase of product to keep them from having to shut down an assembly line. Our in-house design and mold team have done a great job and provide us with a lot of opportunity.
@YakAttackKayakFishing From all the Yakattack products I have, looks like from good mold designs. That Yakattack bunkster cart is awesome. I have to deal with Honda, Toyota and Subaru up here in Ohio working for a Tier 1 Japanese company. Ugh

Great video! Thanks for sharing. I am new to Kayaking and want to be safe then sorry. Is there any update for the coast guard safety information? I live in Western Pennsylvania and want to fish Lake Erie, but only after more safety education and preparation.
Sometimes the snap weights struggle to hold position on braid. You could wrap it one time around the clip but it would be tougher to get off. Personally I prefer Mono when running snap weights and braid when running TruTrips or dipseys
thanks for the video...nice setup. you did a few things "better" than me. but you only made one small mistake. (that you may have fixed by now). you passed a cord through the torqueedo bracket instead of only through the eyelet, so your cord will get chewed up real quick. take care...lol
You’re absolutely right, there’s many different techniques that work differently and better depending on the individual. I’m familiar with the heel hook method and am also an ACA certified. At the time of the video I was self taught and sharing the best way I’d found for me to re-enter. maybe I should make an updated video showcasing all the techniques and tricks I’ve learned along the way 🤔
Unexperienced paddlers would try to move in the water "trying to keep producing heat". The experienced paddler will tie to the boat and never get seperated from it and in case of seperation from the boat WILL MOVE LESS TO SAVE ENERGY..........energy that can help call for help. But hey.....youtubers are "always right".
The suit you linked to in a comment below that looks like the one you are wearing is listed as "semi dry" did any water get in? Does it suck fishing if some water has gotten in? What do you wear under a dry suit to stay warm that can handle some water getting in?
As a certified mountain guide and BCU kayak instructor this video is not accurate. The suit and boots and gloves may be fine if there is adequate insulation for a limited time of exposure. However him submerging his head unprotected can easily trigger an involuntary gasp reflex which can result in losing consciousness and becoming vulnerable to drowning. To avoid this he must have a full adequate neoprene hold and face protection. Please hear this in a constructive manner
If you have the BlackPak Pro definitely check out the new YakAttack ShortStak. The Trackpak is great for small needs like storing your favorite plastics or dipsey diver style presentations but the ShortStack added to the BlackPak will give you the room for everything else.
I checked around, and it seems these new versions aren't available yet. Any word on how and when I can buy this new version? It's hard to find ANY knives with that particular grind on them. Edit: found a site claiming February 2024
Awesome video! How does this affect when you get a strike, or have to set the hook? Also, my understanding is that when you are reelint in and get to snap weight, you just quickly unclip it from the line and keep reeling? My thoughts are a 1oz- 1.5oz weight 25' up the line from the lure is going to really change how the fight is, and even potentially risk creating some slack in the line when the fish changes direction.
I honestly cant tell its there when fighting the fish unless its 4oz+ just be sure to give yourself enough line to quickly get the snap weight off without creating slack in the line.
Questionable whether the identifier on the gate/fence end is usable. Most kayakers I know are putting their boards at a downward angle to that end so that the fish's nose sits flush against the gate.
Brother Earls, talk about taking one for the TEAM! Shrinkage comes to mind and your drysuit demo has absolutely confirmed my NRS order tomorrow. I kayak fish the north Arkansas trout rivers all during the winter and have been somewhat concerned about tipping my ATAK140 fishing YAK. That ride is super stable, but when the river is in high generator levels, a drysuit will simply take any apprehension away from my trips. Thanks for the awesome and informative video!!
