Adding bits and pieces to my 2019 Honda CRF450L / RL to build the ultimate Light ADV bike. Adventure touring on my 2023 KTM 890 Adventure R - or fixing whatever fault or engine code it's throwing at me now. Braaping on my KTM XCW 300. And some Tacoma overland adventures. Thanx for 0the review. On my stickly off road KTM 300 I love my Tech 7's. Now I am considering these for my new adventure bike as I will not be hardcore offroad riding just sand, gravel, the odd trail and a lot of pavement.
You are the king of the Honda CRF 450L adventure riding. You are also friends with Mike at Taco Moto. I would love to see a comparison video between the Honda 450L and the Husqvarna 501s. I almost bought the Honda but they were in short supply when I wanted to buy one so I went with the Husky. With your knowledge and experience and your in at Taco Moto you could produce a wonder comparison video. I trust your opinion. I would be happy to loan you mine for a week or 2 to ride in the back country of the Pacific NW. (Not Portland) My wife and I could provide you a place to stay, a vehicle, the bike, a 2023 Husky 501s and tools and internet access all for free. I am an old guy just looking to help out good guys like you John. My Husky is set up similar to your 450L. (Very expensive)
Very good way to show us how to. A trck for the users: I had a Rekluse on my wr450f and you can engage engine breaking if you give a little gas to reach the required rpm and then let it rev down the hill.
Now that you have been riding it; what map/traction control do you usually use? In this setting what is good estimate of mpg? For reference, for you, what was stock ecu mpg ?
I have been riding a 1200, then a 700 and now I am looking at this 450 as my next ASV for the very reasons you mentioned at some point in your 10k review.
Great video series. I’m close to buying one! Does anyone know if: 1. The stock 450 rl ecu be reflashed? Where? 2. If stock 450x ecu is ‘good enough’/ usable stock? Ideally like to know how it compares to 450 rl stock and 450 rl modified. Both power, on/off feel, and mpg. 3. If subframe from 450 rl can be mounted on 450x 4. John, Any accurate idea of current wet weight (no luggage)? Thank you!
I would like to see your adventures on your new big bike and how you customized it. I would like to see if you have any new rides on your Honda such as any new BDRs. I would like to see any viewer events that you talked about last year where you would ride with some of your fans. I would like to see you document any visits you might have had with any of your suppliers or manufactures. I have grown to trust your opinion and your evaluation of products that are helpful to you on your rides. I wish I would have known when you came to Oregon. I would have been happy to have driven you and trailered your bike back to Colorado avoiding the hell hole of Portland and saving your ears from your lost muffler insert. I hope to meet you some day. I love your videos! Ken Logue Hillsboro, Oregon
Hi John, can we detach everything ? like elbow only if i need.. what im sure guy dont buy cheap hard shell .. i bought a shot 2.0 , walk on it by mistake .. the front crack in 2 straight away .. and so , sharp edege and dangerous , probably more that having nothing.. so now,, i will go for flexible stuff only,, and good brand,, i will do a video about it soon,, bcs that is fk abuse,, how can we even sell that,, and said CE certified,,
Great video! I'm about to install these on my truck but can't decide on option 2 or 3.. I have around 480 pounds unloaded with my rooftop tent, topper awning and drawers in the bed. I'm thinking about opt 3 but worried about the ride in the winter when I remove the tent.
Just bought my 22 890 , it immediately had coolant leak with first 24hrs , and still don't know it's fixed 😅. But man I love this bike . Still.. what tires you running
İ find out the quickshifter does not want to work when you accelerate quickly because of traction control. This is my personal opininon. When tc light flashes, it does not engage the transmission.
I have found all European boots Including mountain climbing and hiking all have narrow feet their are a couple of exception Scadler boots from Austria very hard to find now.
looks pretty good and practical for all situations. if you are doin a short ride and want less weight just put less fuel in. this gives you the option of long rides and can rid a guy of range anxiety
Hi John - totally late to this party but getting a tad clenched about my Vortex on my '23 CRF450 RL. Did you ever experience difficult hot starts? Meaning, I'm trail riding, stop the bike, 2 - 5 mins later go to restart and it struggles to start. I live/ride in Western CO and was out solo this past week and thought I was about to be stranded way out in Gunni Nat'l Forest. Any thoughts greatly appreciated. It does this regularly but this past time makes me want to try the GET or a new bike....ugh
@@JohnTYoung Thanks for the reply! I made a somewhat rash decision and just went with a Husky FE350s. I'm riding terrain more suited to a 350 than the 450RL. Hope the summer is going well, stay cool man!
The 890 is the perfect bike as far as I’m concerned, but the reliability issues kill it for me. If one of the four Japanese manufacturers simply copied this bike and deleted all the worthless electrical junk (except abs and cruise control). It would completely dominate the market. Or ktm could just learn how to make a reliable motorcycle... But I’m not holding my breath.
Hey John, appreciate all you advice, I purchased the Get from Taco and am having issues with the fan not ever coming on and the motor is running way hot. Have you adjusted the get ecu to help the fan kick in at a lower temp ? If so, what settings did you use?
