This is really helpful but honestly my conclusion is that does not look nearly big enough, 70m fuzzy rope + extra layers + food + another pair shoes + first aid + basically any additional gear no chance that all fits. But on the plus you get to look like a goober with a lumpy turtle shell.
I agree that it's not really big enough. I only carry a 60m, so with 70m you're maxed out. I have made it work for 3 years, but it's often a challenge to fit everything in quickly. If this bag ever wears out (it's really durable) I'll buy the Beal Combi bag instead, which is 45L instead of 42L and is an even lower price (not sure on durability). If you have the cash- get a nicer and larger bag- this was a value find at $65, and I was mainly showing how it is possible to fit the basics.
I usually carry my helmet on the outside, passing the buckle through the hand loops twice. I have forgotten about my helmet before, and tossed my bag on the floor causing slight damage.
Is there any information on these routes? I was looking for boulders yesterday and actually climbed two of these routes. It was a blast but I couldn't find any info on the boulder on websites Mountain Project. perhaps you can guide me in the right direction for information? Thank you.
Went today to try this route! It was super fun! And the trail was great, we dug it out a bit more since it is very warn down now. Thanks for setting this route though! Stellar v5
Hi Gavin, for Squawstruck it might work tho it’s a bit big. I just used a smaller backpack for food, water and shoes, then coiled the rope into a rope backpack. But yeah it ought to work
Anyone who has ever rock climbed knows that using cracks in the rock face is common practice. Also if you look it appears this boulder is chalked up so it seems this is an established route. Im sure there has been many people climbing this he was just the unlucky one it decided to break away on.
You can see and even hear the rock crack loose at 0:09. Maybe climber missed it, but it seems like if the camera picked up the sound from that far away it must have been pretty loud. Big mistake! Glad he made it out alive!!
