You certainly have nice movement. I'll see if I can't get a sub-16 tomorrow myself. I think I really just need to get through the run without major errors that require extensive reloads.
If you go too fast on this section, the NPC will softlock. That's also why I am taking my time pushing the box that far and all instead of just circlestrafing over
@@mxylrblackmesadeathmatchtv6178 casual playthrough + 3 full-game runs, so 4 (or 4 and a half cuz I reset once during this level lmao). I've done almost every floor as IL now, but not this one yet cuz I wanna avoid it for obvious reasons haha
I don't think the version in this game matters at all really, I did my runs on 1.1.0 and Peng did them on 1.0.0. EDIT: Still Alive runs were done 1.2.0 as they made picking up Wilson much easier on that version. As for which glitches are most important, movement is very important to nail down: ru-vid.com/group/PL3DHh6Ydoh8xZlEDifODr9QL2LSFOHKkU There is also strategy doc made by Peng: docs.google.com/document/d/1OolNr0HsEhrlBBSet-Yyo6IEhgfxCih5K1KaF7_2gVk/edit?usp=sharing I think besides movement and damage boosts, very important glitches that save time are propclips (getting stuck inside of a prop and clipping down) and fizzler skip (skipping the weapon strip). This game is one of the longest (iirc. 3rd longest mod) to speedrun, so I strongly advice asking in my Discord if u need help learning it -> discord.gg/PSFdfGskvS
@@LyrenMeow thanks for the info. It's just there's not alot of videos on the speedrunning scene on this game. I would like to learn how to do the fizzler skip if it's not too hard to do. Is it hard to learn? And does it only work ij specific versions or can it work on the latest patch? I will definitely see ya around on discord when I can.
@@divertedgamer1050 I think Peng didn't have much struggle with fizzler skip, but for me it was the hardest trick of the entire game so... personally I'd say it is quite difficult. I think the skip works on all versions though.
It's not. The reason why I don't take damage from bullets or melee damage is a side effect of the quickclip state that I get from performing yesclip at 17:24 - It's not godmode, as you still take damage from things such as fall damage, explosions, toxic goo & fire.
I know this is a year ago but how do some speedrunners go at high speeds towards the ground and then instead of taking fall damage they just bounce????
Hm, I was actually planning to make one of the tutorial parts about fall damage cancellation. I could do that next if you want! But in short, the most common method is "slopebug" and you just have to hit an upwards slope with horizontal momentum. The more horizontal speed you have and the less vertical momentum you have, the easier it is.
@@LyrenMeow I know that but I also wanna know how do people often know what they can use a ramp as? Like I see people getting creative with how they get past certain areas.
@@Morseful Short answer would be "I feel it" but that's not helpful so: Generally, when you learn the game or the mod you do, you learn the most basic route and use the biggest and easiest slopes you can, the slopes everyone use. When you start doing more runs, you start to experiment, "I wonder if this slope works" and seeing other slopes that are also slanted enough that you just know that you can hit it. If it's diagonal, it is a slope most of the time. Sometimes some slopes might feel like that they definitely won't work but if u have no better options, sometimes it can still work with slight angle changes. Saving mid-air before one of these risky slopes is a good idea so you are able to quickly test different angles.
@@LyrenMeow and also you need to teach us how some people get INSANE speeds when doing accelerated backhops in such a short amount of time (sometimes without sprinting) because I feel like this game doesn't have many good tutorials that go into detail about movement.
@@Morseful Do you have any specific timestamp from a video you can point out? Since most of the time it's just the combination of the stuff I explained in the parts 1 & 2. If you do a very good circlestrafe or forward circlestrafe, you only need couple hops to have extremely high speed already.
I didn't make the original HL2 glitchless rules. They are inconsistent I agree, as NPC teleport is as much exploit as propclimbing or ahop would be, which would make those glitchless as well. If you see any run from me with the category "Glitchless Unrestricted" that's my own definition I made for HL2 glitchless that includes stuff such as propclimbing and ahop as well. NPC teleporting isn't a glitch as it just abuses the intentional game mechanic that the NPC teleports so it doesn't softlock in its dialogue to random props or rubber that may fall to its path.
