This was very helpful, I had my first lesson recently but I didn’t really get a methodical breakdown of the controls and the terminology related to them
If you lower the nose the speed of the glider will increase, a long with drag. Eventually you will reach the maximum speed at which its safe to fly the glider.
You basically trade altitude (potential energy) for speed (kinetic energy). You will run out of energy unless you find a thermal or wave to gain more altitude.
I think your high/low pressure theory of how wings produce lift were debunked decades ago. The wing creates a down draft at its rear. So graphic examples of the upper & lower air flows at the rear being parallel to a horizontal surface are incorrect.
is there any one out there that can please tell me how the fuck a wing works, i hate that word LIFT, when i look at that flat plate with attack angle then i only see it being PUSHED up from the bottom UP, as every one told me that wings (airfoil) of a plane is shaped that way to create LIFT on top of the wing to LIFT it up, there is a huge difference in LIFTING something and PUSHING something up, so tired of this 2 sided bullshit of who is right and who is wrong
The video us right. The high pressure below the wings surface does push it up, but the low pressure above the wing also effectively sucks it up. It's the pressure differential which is important here.
As a glider pilot this is incorrect , thrust is at first created by the launch power , then momentum is just at all times maintained at approx 55 knots . In reality there is still thrust , just using gravity , to create thrust , a force which is present . The only way to increase attitude is by using a thermal or sudden lift
As a glider pilot you are incorrect, in free gliding flight we ignore the 'momentum ' of the launch. Attitude is altered by the crafts pilot using controls, ALTITUDE is gained, in free gliding flight by outside influences of lift generated by differential solar heating, ie thermals, ridge or hill lift and mountain lee wave systems. The motive power is gravity and the fuel tank is altitude, duration can be extended by soaring.
