Hey, what's up guys ... My name is Quinten. As long as I can remember I've loved cars.
I'm not a mechanic or an engineer. I'm just a Professional Amateur Nerd that has very outside the box thinking about pretty much everything in life... And my cars are no exception.
So welcome to Aperture Motorsports, where we focus on doing rad things with rad cars.
Looking forward to seeing how this goes! I'm on my way to where you just started from. I've got a 94 530it. Just installed the 540i airbox and maf, and now I'm about to put in my new 540i intake manifold with the velocity stacks and a duddmd chip. I'm hopeful it'll make a nice impact. But then what to do after that... Maybe what you're doing is the way to go :)
It was a really fun car with the m60! The velocity stack intake added a ton of power, but the biggest thing was the immediacy of the throttle response was just ... sublime. While it does seem like our paths are diverging powertrain-wise. The LS swap isn't going to be the end of the e34 story. I want to do more universally e34 friendly content after the swap is done: I have a wavetrac for an e36 M3 that I want to see can I retrofit, and coilovers or maybe even bags, and an unconventional big brake upgrade are all on the build plan. So hopefully some of my future projects can benefit your car too!
Bro, found you from @JasonJoyrides page. Love your content!! The prologue section of this video and Carguments totally won me over, subscribed! 😁 So great to find original voices on here doing cool stuff! Beyond hyped for this LS swap, the e34 is such a beautiful car! 🥰
You can get a CARB APPROVED JB4 box for use in California (on specific platforms). That is a game changer and solves a huge problem we have here. No smog shop can say jack about it. Don't try that with an ECU tune.
Ive switched setups and turbos few times over the years, and jb4 is a must when you play a lot with your car. And yes I'm on a BEF , tweaked with tunerpro.
I also used Turner Pro to modify/customize my BEF flash too. Once you have the XDF and definition files it's actually not too difficult. Planning on using the same software for some of my LS projects coming up
Just an update for everybody ... I know I've said in a few videos that on patreon there would be build lists and products I use for free on Patreon. I didn't lie 😂. It just moved to linktree. Just go to the "shop page" and you will see all of my build lists. Link Tree: linktr.ee/ApertureMediaGroup I recently have removed them from patreon and put them on link tree. Trying to curate that type of list on patreon is just a cluster and I found a kind of annoying that it would try to sell a patreon membership to people who are just there to look at the free list. Disclosure: I only share products I've actually used. All opinions expressed here are my own. These posts may contain affiliate links and I may earn a small commission, at no cost to you. Once again here is the link: linktr.ee/ApertureMediaGroup?subscribe
i appreciate your non biased approach, great video. i would like to see a comparison between the JB4 modules that run PI, WMI, ethanol sensor etc, to the competitors, MHD ethanol sensor box, Reflex PI box etc.
Thanks! I have been researching and trying to see the advantages and disadvantages of reflex vs JB4 port injection; But kind of like I said with JB4 vs MHD tunes, it seems to really depend on your personal situation as to which is "the best." If I do go port injection on my 535i, I'll definitely make a video; But that'll probably be further down the line as I have way too many projects right now 😂. The challenge will be finding somebody who has similar mods to me but has a different port injection system to make a fair comparison video with.
So people are telling you that for a couple reasons... 1} the ECU/DME is going freak out and throw a code because your cats are removed. Modern cars have downstream sensors that measure catalytic converter efficiency; to "hypothetically" remove that emissions feature you would need to change the software of the ECU. So removing the cats without a tune is going to cause more problems than it'll solve. 2} if you paid hard-earned money for downpipes... Don't you actually want all the performance you paid for? You really should be optimizing your tune for the mods you have on the motor.
I would still do a back-end flash if you're going to run a JB4. Due to EPA/CARB compliance, at some point Burger Motorsports removed the ability to automatically clear the check engine light catless downpipes produce. It's not going to cause performance issues ... More so just an annoying eyesore. Obligatory disclaimer: I don't recommend or endorse modifying or tampering with the emissions systems on your car. EPA please leave me alone. I'm just a dude with a poorly constructed RU-vid channel.
My look I say hello and how is your leg now well I use to have same cars similar colour 525 I they are the best BMW created back in days i think still plenty in canada very well maintained and M5 and alpina ah im here in london but im from Colombia any way i enjoy this car so much i lend the car to this stupid woman friend of my sister some how she blows the engine need head gasket change cost me over 1000 pounds any way after that I look my car properly oil change regularly spark plugs filters brakes pads and check suspension change rock shocks well as long you service you car last for ever i suggest you before you put the engine check the body for rust especially on side and paint the engine bay properly i wish you luck 🍀 thanks to should this beautiful machine it don’t look nice know but when is fixed it and shine turn heads believe me 🙏🙏🙏
Thanks or watching my video and being supportive of my project! So it was a long and hard process to rehab my leg/knee. And I lost a pretty significant amount of cartilage in my knee joint so there's always some level of background pain. Plus my knee has gained a new feature of sounding like a ratchet anytime I move it 😂. My e34 has very minimal rust on it. There are a few spots in the rear of the car. That I plan to have handled through the buildup of this car. But there are no areas of concern in the engine bay. And thank you again for being supportive of my vision. Really means a lot 🥲
If you want more details on the engine that I'm putting in I just released the next episode in the series: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QrfuFW31f68.htmlsi=6T2clZ00FftRtzS4
Jb4 drivability is no different. I was running jb4 on my 335i on stock twin before I went single turbo . And still retained the jb4 with back end mhd flash . 4 years later the car still runs and drive the same. Every single person I know d we it’s bootm3 blew their motor . While my jb4 power 6266 never once had issue with motor .
On my 535i when I first installed the jb4 without a backend flash it was really crude and blunt in operation; Which is what prompted me to look at backend flashes. It was almost like the jb4 would come on like a light switch 😂. But after trying a couple backend flash maps the jb4 has been truly seamless, basically like stock just with more power. And arguably in a lot situations better than stock. It just took some tweaking to both the DME tune files and the jb4 settings via the PC app to get there. I get that may not be the case for everyone but that was just my experience. But regardless of if your jb4 experience is plug and play, or needs some tweaking like mine, the safety features alone are more than worth it IMO. Edit: grammar
Quattro is just a brand name. There are so many variations. I already got me some Quattro x 2 but we don't even get any snow! I did it for ability to put down the power when modded. I like Haldex the least by far. One little trick to get more torque to the rear in Haldex is to run slightly taller tires in the rear - the system will tolerate 3-4% difference and gives more rear torque bias whereas normally the max is 50/50. Torsen isn't (or wasn't anyway) made by "Torsen" which is a brand name, but by Gleason Corp. In your example at 11min, the Torsen diff is not in the rear, but in the driveshaft so only front to rear not side to side. Its still an open diff in the rear. There were huge improvements between the B5 and B6 mostly due to EBC. IMO a true "ultimate" would be Torsen up front, Torsen in the middle and the sport diff in the back or Torsen up front added to the Crowngear/Sport diff. Technically the latest sport rear ends are not even a "Differential" because they have no differential gears at all! Technically, its just a "spool" combined with Haldex-like clutch packs on each rear output shaft - I really like that setup, but would still like to add a Torsen up front which is open still.
Yes, 'quattro' is just a brand-name like Kleenex. And 'Torsen' is currently a brand-name for a product designed by JTEKT Torsen North America, Inc. since 2006; I didn’t cover the whole history of Torsen in the video because this video was already way too long for a channel that has a average watch time of 41 seconds 😂. I didn't mean to give the impression that Audis have a Torsen diff in the rear; I probably should have explicitly said somewhere that the Torsen diff in an Audi is in the transmission housing. For the example at 11:00, I used that as a generalized visualization of how ANY Torsen diff multiplies torque, not specifically an Audi. Which is why I said at 10:30 that a Torsen diff in an Audi works they same way as it does in any car; but because its rotated 90 degrees it doesn’t bias from left to right it biases from the front to the rear. Sorry for any confusion that I may have caused😅. In terms of an 'Ultimate quattro' set up, my plan is to have a set up with a Torsen 4:1 center diff, and Wavetracs in the front and rear diffs. My b7 sedan already has the t3 diff, but my b7 avant is getting a 01e {t2} from a b5 s4, so it will need the JHM 4:1 Center Diff Upgrade. It be cool if they made a clutch type rear differential for the b6/b7 platform, but I haven't seen one yet ...
CORRECTION: Starting in 2022 Audi dropped Haldex in the RS3 and started using a transverse AWD system from Magna. I pulled all my research from the Audi press room, and the impression given is that the recent improvement to RS3s Quattro was related to adding the torque vectoring rear differential from other S/RS cars; so I didn't really grasp that there was a complete supplier / system change. As @fine9186 said in his comment the new AWD system allows for up to 100% torque to the rear and a new drift mode. Thanks for bringing that to my attention. More on the Magna Quattro AWD system in the RS3 and Golf R can be found here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-m4_EIULHP0I.html
Rs3 that is shown in video is not using Haldex by BorgWarner but Magna AWD due to more rear based power split and 'drift mode'. Golf 8 R and S3 8Y also have Magna
Thanks for letting me know. I pulled all my research from the Audi press room, and the impression given is that the recent improvement to RS3s Quattro was a torque vectoring rear differential; not that there was a complete supplier / system change. But after watching this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-m4_EIULHP0I.htmlsi=Dxo4D1LYEWbb2aqV I see that there was a new AWD system change in 2022
Right now I'm using the stock drive shaft as a proof of concept; And will upgrade in the future as things progress. I also have an upgraded diff that needs to be installed. it's just been a crazy summer so e34 things have been a little slow {Japan car meet video coming soon}.
Yeah, I'm more of a 1.5jz guy myself 😏. I think part of the misconceptions about the supra is that people wanted something like the 1/2JZ. But what a lot of people Don't think about is the legendary engines from the '90-2000s like the JZ, RB, s54, and even the LS ... Wouldn't pass emissions in 2019. So Toyota would effectively be starting from scratch, and not just be able to simply give us a 3JZ. So from a purely economics standpoint, it made the most sense to add engineering resources and dollars on top of a well-developed BMW platform
I actually like the styling. Its not the FT-1 we thought we were getting, but I like it in the same way that i like the z4 M coupe. Ironically they have similar designs
@@U--Haul it's a cat and mouse game. They can lock the ECUs but if there's enough interest in the market ... eventually someone will jailbreak it. The only way they could try to permanently lock an ECU is if they continually pushed OTA updates to the car changing the encryption on a regular basis kind of like how they do with game consoles
I'm not really super knowledgeable about motorcycles. But anytime I go to one of these events, my favorite bikes are typically Indians. They seem like really cool bikes ... From the perspective of somebody who doesn't know what they're talking about 😂
