I'm a fellow Korean (from the US)! :o) I just want to say that I've been watching your videos for a long time and I really admire the way you see the world and the way you speak about things - I relate to you a lot, especially in having uncertainty about the future but wanting more out of it and out of yourself. I'm at that point in my life too, where I'm kind of making these decisions and not knowing how the future will pan out but just trusting the process and trying to not be too discouraged by the detours that I'll sometimes have to take in life. I feel most like myself when I'm traveling, I realized that recently - it's just such a freeing feeling. Whenever I'm away from circumstances in my life that feel cyclical and suffocating I feel this sense of longing for something greater. Life is so short. :') My heart hurts when I think about having to just slave away at a 9-5 until I'm old and then retire and then I'm able to enjoy the rest of my life - when I'll likely be suffering from an ailment or I might even die before I get to retire LMAO. Makes me think - what am I even on this Earth for. I want you to know that you're not alone in a lot of your feelings, and that your outlook on life resonates so much with me and I'm so grateful to have your videos in those moments when I feel out of place in my thoughts. You have a friend in me always even though I'm a long way away, if you ever plan a trip to the US or even anywhere else (I'd like to visit so many places - Netherlands, Iceland, Germany, Italy, France, the list goes on!) I'd be happy to be a travel buddy. (I'm quite shy but the mutual korean-ness will help LOL) I just came back from a trip to Edinburgh to visit a friend and your video eased a lot of my anxieties about traveling, as I'm quite an anxious and easily stressed out person so I was really worried. But I had the most fun I've had in years, as all the stress I've been putting on myself in finding a career has really killed any potential happiness. It was nice to see life taking place outside of the little stress bubble I'd been living in for so long, even it was only for a week. Anyway I apologize that I rambled for so long, but I just wanted to reach out and tell you to keep your head up. You have a lot going for you, people seem to gravitate toward you (your smile is infectious!) and your view on the world is honestly so refreshing. Life is too short to just exist, we should all strive to live as much as possible. It obviously isn't sustainable to just live on the power of dreams and passion alone, as the reality of living in a capitalistic society crashes down on us everyday - but I think it's important to not let work and money become everything. We need time to be human, to be happy. In moments and in little things. And hopefully one day, in big things too. It would be cool if we could keep in touch, like digital pen pals or something? I know you have a lot going on so only if you were able to make some time to touch base every now and then. I wish you nothing but happiness! :o) Keep your head up!!

I feel like life comes at us very quickly at times and I would’ve wanted someone else to tell me their experiences at certain points in life. I’m actually surprised that you’re so young and yet you are already thinking about your future seriously! This comment might come off as harsh but it's really meant to be advice. I obviously do not know you or your situation but quitting a full time job after a year is almost never a good idea. You shouldn't even be looking for a new job after a year. Give it at least two or preferably three years. One year tells me the person doesn't give the workplace a real trial/go before starting to look at other options. If I was your next employer this would be a "red flag" on your CV because what would stop you from doing the same to me? Why should I invest time and money in a new recruit that is going to leave after a year? Quitting to take a break or going back to studying also shows you have poor risk assessment. You're basically going from being a productive member of society back to an unproductive one. The rest of society has to now bare the cost of you. Also you're argument of being tired and not being able to be creative and pursuing hobbies in your spare time is not really valid after just one year of working. You've barely gotten used to your job and learnt to perform it in a way which will leave you with that extra energy to pursue those after work activities. Last thing, if you at some point are going to look for another job. I would strongly recommend to delete this video because If I saw the part where you express your reasoning for quitting your job I would immediately discard your application.
Hey Swedish guy. First of all I’d like to thank you for taking the time to write this message. I see where you’re coming from and it’s not different to all the reasons why I really hesitated to quit or even upload this video online. However, you must understand that there are things that I hold valuable in life that may be different to yours. As you describe being unemployed to be an unproductive individual in the society, I can clearly see that there is a difference between how I view this situation to you. I have made this decision, not solely because I was ‘tired’, but because I believed that this decision would give me time to reconsider my career path and prepare myself for the better in the future. I have always believed the importance of setting your direction straight before you head on, which in this case, I concluded I needed more work on. If I had continued going to work feeling this way, I know that I would’ve burnt out and become very depressed - a zombie like figure without any direction or purpose in life. In addition, I had to commute a total of 4 hours every day which really deteriorated not only my physical but mental health. I know my limits and I can assure you I really tried my best to figure things out and stay at the company. On top of having a different view on life, I do NOT plan on lounging around and being ‘unproductive’. That is not the person I am, or have been ever. I stayed up until 2am to edit videos and create personal projects just to wake up at 6 to go back to work for months. For that, I must say I was personally offended by your choice of words. I have also talked and consulted the decision with my teammates, my family and friends for a very long time. They have not only supported me but have encouraged me to make the decision as they know me on a personal level and believe that this would be a better choice in my life at the moment. Although you may think that this was a naive move of mine, please try to take into consideration that I’m just looking out for myself and my well being, not to fit in the society and get a ‘good job’. I think I’d like to take chances in life and see where I can take myself instead of staying in the same position that I was questioning myself on. As to your last paragraph about deleting the video, I’ll be very honest - I might delete it in the future if I think it may hurt my chances of getting a new opportunity, but at the moment I’d rather build myself to be someone who’s such a great catch that this doesn’t even matter at all. This was a great experience of mine, and I have ended with great terms with my prior company so I know they know I didn’t mean anything negative when I posted this video. I have also shared quite amount of positive experiences at work so I hope you see how this whole journey wraps up to be just a very pleasant experience of mine. (There are a LOT of people out there who upload their negative experiences online and still manage to get further in life with no problem!) In conclusion, we all live differently and this is just a case where you simply disagree with my choices. Feel free to feel anyway you please but also know that I can say the same thing about your choices, which can be implied in your comment as well. I hope you are well.
Thank you for taking the time to write such a thorough and well thought out response. By no means did you have to do that and I appreciate it! I did make some assumptions in my comment but most people in life that you’ll encounter will do that as well. They won’t for example spend time looking at all your videos, even if they should do. You have thought this decision through a lot which is the right thing to do. One lesson I would take from what you described is think twice before accepting a job in the future with similar circumstances because now you know that for example commuting 4 hours will take it’s toll on your psyche. Avoid that. I wanted to offer some push back to see how you would handle it. A lot of younger people today take very big decision light heartedly and don’t think things through with how those decisions can have drastic impacts on their lives. Your response shows you do not fit into that category. This is a good sign! I think you will do great. I’m definitely subscribing and I’ll try to keep up with your videos.
