Basically he possessed geralt but only for the day. He wanted to party again so they went to a wedding with that one doctor lady and you still have control of your character its just cutscenes are different with him being in control for that event. He isn't an evil ghost. He leaves after the party and goes to rest.

Like, it's been stated that a higher vampire can regenerate from a drop of blood, just that it takes so long that the vampire usually isn't alive untill anyone who had seen it previously, are dead. So I don't really understand why people find this to be a retcon or a problem.
@@TheMikesc15 I might be remembering wrong, but hadn’t Vilgefortz completely disintegrated him? I’m pretty sure that would be fatal, even for higher vampires.
