What is up RU-vid!! my name is JJ Howe i live in sunny south Florida and have a slight addiction to buying projects so figured what better way to share the adventure then on youtube. hoping this will help others find a budget boat to fix up and get out on the water and catch some fish!! I will cover everything from fiberglass repairs, motor work, maintenance, fishing, knots to tie, favorite baits, etc. hope you all enjoy watching me turn junk into awesomeness we can fish then flip for a profit.
I've done this for years with old 4 wheeler plastics and plastic trim pieces on my trucks and have never had an issue with the plastics becoming brittle especially on the 4 wheelers and dirt bikes and they were beat to hell in the woods.
started viewing you on UT prompt as I have soft spot boat cabin floor from frig (icebox) leak to learn fiberglass method I am long time machinist/and jack of most trades found you interesting and will stay sub'ed I have a lot f different Toys (boats autos etc.) I will check in on your site to see what you and your Family are up to I have 15 grandkids and couple greats I have CNC machine and welding shop for 40 years anyway keep up the video's I am up here in the Pacific Northwest fishing hunting hot rod'n thx Harry
@@harryprice4512 Awesome! Love to hear it thank you!! I want to get back to working on the skiff and posting more content life has just been crazy and the Florida weather hasn't been so great 100+ deg and raining every couple hours haha so hopefully this winter when it's a little cooler .... In the 70s I'll get back to working on the skiff and get some more fiberglass content !!
Nice video. I am wanting to pull the head on my 2003 Johnson 115 4 stroke (Suzuki branded as Johnson). Did you have to set the timing when you put it back together?
@@danbarger4728 yes 100% you will need to set the timing look up the service manual for the year and model of the outboard and it will walk you through the entire removal and replacement process. Not sure about your year Suzuki but most Suzukis are upside down so to remove the cams to get the heads off you have to remove the entire power head.
The 1st spot was lake worth and i95 it's gone now they built town homes there and the second spot is behind target on lantana and 441 I think they built it out as well but may still be some area to ride
Nothing ever happens when it's under warranty it's when it goes off of warrantee the stuff happens when's the last time you put zinks in that motor it probably overheated from the corrosion because 400 hours you shouldn't lose a head gasket
It never overheated until the head gasket went. I bought it used for a really good deal was originally a pair and the other one had popped. Ran it hard for probably a year or 2 before it went.
Just a part of buying used outboards personally when buying used motors I've had the best luck with a newer motor with high hours rather then an older motor with low hours
Hi there, I have been searching EVERYWHERE for the information your video was able to offer me. I was told by so many people that I needed to purchase a new steering housing assembly or run the risk of burning out the brand new control board I have purchased. I ran my multimeter against the current steering motor (12v Riptide) and it drew less than 2amps. Seeing as though I bought the control board because the main trolling motor was not getting enough power, I came to the conclusion that the steering motor will be fine. Thanks for posting your video. I could not find anything online that told me what the acceptable amp draw is for the steering motor. Under heavy load and practically holding the shaft so it would not turn, it drew about 1.9 amps max. At non load test it only drew 0.5 amps. So I am relieved. I appreciate you for posting this video so that others can learn! Much appreciated!
Awesome!! I'm so glad I was able to help out one of the main reasons I posted the video so others didn't end up down the same road I went down having to replace things multiple times because it was not cheap haha!!
Great video 😎🙏🏼 I have a 20ft Angler center console with a 2006 F150 four stroke and I need to check it myself as well. I was taking it out a few weeks ago and one of the gear sprockets for the timing belt broke out of no where. It shattered and caused the engine to shut off. I bought the new gear sprocket and timing belt, but not sure if it cause any internal damage. I hope not… otherwise I will have more work to do.
Hi sorry just saw this comment if the timing jumped while underway I would say more then likely broke or bent a valve but it may not have if you where lucky I'm not sure the clearance on the Yamaha motors and if it would be ok out of time without hitting a valve
I'm having the same issue you were. I replaced my steering housing a year ago. Pulled the motor apart and found that my motherboard has 36v at the two wires leaving it that go to the steering housing. I saw your video showed to check power there. Do you think my steering housing is bad again? Worked fine last time I was out
Sorry for the late reply life's been a little hectic lately if you have power from the board going to the motors then yes I would say the next step would be to open the steering box and test the motors
I would have loved that you'd had someone else holding the camera or a stand. You really make it simple, but unfortunately there's a lot of areas not very clear of where you're taking a screw from. I have the same problem with my engine and nobody wants to deal with the head gasket replacement. I'd be willing to buy you an air ticket, host you in my house and pay you for your labor. Pls let me know.
Unfortunately I have a new baby at the house and not feasible to leave to help you at the moment your best bet would be to buy a service manual it outlines the entire procedure you need to follow to accomplish the job along with torque specs as you remove bolts bag and label them so you know exactly where they go
How did you find this to do .. I’m thinking of doing my 140 Suzuki 4 stroke . But it has a timing chain not belt .. ive rebuilt several car motors but would be the first 4 stroke outboard. Reason I’m thinking of doing it is it has 700 hours and previous owners didn’t really flush it well so has lots of deposits and build up so be nice to clean the jackets around the head etc
If your not having any symptoms of a bad head gasket like water in oil water in cylinders overheating etc and are just looking to clean out the water jackets i think idk start with pulling thermostats and flushing motor with pump on recirculating system with vinegar or salt away something of that nature like put a big bucket/ tub under lower fill with water and whatever cleaning substance you decide drop a pump on there and pump wayer into flush port then just use a hose or tube or something to direct the pisser/ tell tale into bucket as well so it recirculates the cleaner through motor for an hour or so I do this regularly with a pump and vinager to descale tankless water heaters as a plumber
Forsure they are about an hour and a half from me so I just took the drive there to pick everything up but I'm pretty sure theyll ship everything as well rolandmartinmarinecenter.com/
It blows my mind that the sharks get so fired up they eat the jigs normally they'll eat a fish once you hook it but not the jig twice that trip sharks ate the jig
It's a slow pitch rod it's not meant to bend like that was 40 mins into fighting this fish and tired and was 100% user error the rod is an extremely thin to give the jig properly action and feel how it's acting 200ft down your supposed to fight the fish by pointing the rod at the fish then pulling the reel towards yourself then reeling in line back towards the fish letting the drag and reel do the work like a winch was tired and gave it a little to much sauce
Was user error I was tired and wasn't using rod properly they're not made to bend like that made to have a ton of flex to fish the jig properly supposed to point rod at the fish and pull towards you and reel back down putting much less bend in the rod and using the drag and reel to do the work. Just means get to buy new gear 🤑
Hey bro I heard you say your a plumber. I am also. I own a small company well basically me and tech. But how is the industry there? Thinking about moving to Florida. The fishing is great and my wife is Dominican so she is close and the weather is decent.
there is so much work it is crazy I turn down couple service calls a day because I dont have the time or man power to get to them the biggest issue down here is finding help not many people want to do manual labor anymore and with the big service companies offering salary plus big commissions for service techs alot of people go that route but if your good, honest, and fairly reasonable your name will spread by word of mouth extremely fast and the big companies are charging so much for small jobs that there is alot of money to be made hope that helps
I would say around the same I don't do hourly much but when I do I'm around the same 150-200/hr depending if they're gonna be easy to deal with or a pain haha and I'm same boat as you I'm a one man shop and before that worked for my dad and was just me and him with him we did new construction and remodels of dental offices and medical buildings and was all flat rate bid off a set of plans and now on my own I do a lot of custom homes and remodels of high end homes and I bill flat rate average around 3k for bathroom remodel new valve, vinyl pan liner, reset toilet and move plumbing in wall for new vanity and trim everything out if that helps out
Question for you. I have an old 1990 Yamaha 40hp outboard. I am replacing the head/water jacket assembly. Out of 10 head bolts, 8 of them broke. I am working on drilling out the bolts. Can I use grade 8 hardware store bolts for the head? Also, would it hurt to put anti seize on the new bolts?
Honestly I'm not a professional mechanic by any means and if they're available I would try to order factory bolts to replace them with because the torque specs are based off of the stretch of the bolt it's pretty precisely engineered. Also I can't see anti seize hurting I know when I put head studs in a car I rebuilt the arp studs came with a lubricant to make sure the bolts go in properly
www.crowleymarine.com/yamaha/products/90119-08015-00-bolt-with-washer Looks like you can still order the bolts online on the motor should be a plate with the exact model number and serial number and you can look through the diagrams to find the bolt you need this was just a random 1990 40hp yamaha
Thanks homie I gotta get back on the skiff I got one layer of glass on the floor been so busy with baby about to be here in a couple weeks haven't had time to work in anything
