👿🔱😈... my friend love this band without him I would have never known about them or Michael... man he turned me on so many cool bands that I would have never known about
This, perhaps, has undoubtedly been one song, of which, without question and also, provided if, that besides, included among it as many several others, in addition to the best ever written and recorded.
Some people never heard of UFO. I've been too see them live a few times . Years ago in the early 80s. . I only found out about them from someone I knew back in the day. Then I really got into listening to them.
I wished I could talk the band I'm in, to play this, I used to play this over and over with the record, what seems like 4 decades ago. It was my favorite Pat Travers song to jam out.
Funny album cover, It reminds me of that album cover from Almost Famous, where only the singer is in focus. And the rest of the guys in the band are out of focus. It was somewhat common for record companies to do that back in those days.
The best record review i ever read when i was a budding, teen axe weilder: ( cream, hit parader or circus magazine-cant remember which..) "ufo debut album PHENOMENON is what led zeppelin PHYSICAL GRAFFITI should've souded like!" That was exactly what i felt then.
First album i ever liteted to UFO was my senior ye jn High School. In Sqaw Valley California. Obsession! Bought up every album. Phenomenon album my favorite.
First time I heard this I was 14 yrs old. This album also had Scott Gorham from Thin Lizzy, and Nicko McBrain drumming, and I was hooked immediately. Saw him live w Rush @ 15 yrs Nov 13, 1978 @ San Diego Sports Arena and it was only 1/3 Arena, and I was 7th Row (which was great as the rows ascended in the arena and I was slightly higher than stage) Tommy Aldridge put on a show as he was playing ahead of Neal Peart, and I'm telling you he was amazing, better than than I ever saw him, which was many times, with more than one band. Then I saw Travers at the Stadium Concert in July 1979 @ Jack Murphy Stadium (It wasnt actually Jack Murphy yet, it was San Diego Stadium, and it was the first concert held there after the ban on rock concerts following ZZ Top in 1976 coming out w a live bull onstage after San Diego City brass said no, dont do it, so you know they did, haha) that included BOC, Cheap Trick, UFO, and Pat Travers. Then again Saturday May 17, 1980 @ San Diego State open air Amphitheater. Then I saw him w BOC and Johnny Van Zant Band July 24, 1981 @ San Diego Sports Arena. I'm sure theres a few more times but I have those stubs w me, and you know how they get lost after a concert. But I have vivid memories of that first concert w Rush, and the Stadium show and San Diego State. Btw Pat Thrall was a really good guitar player that no one ever mentions. If you ever saw the Aldridge, Mars Cowling, Thrall lineup live w Pay, then I'm sure you'd agree that Boom Boom Out Go The Lights was a joke compared to hearing snd seeing Life in London, Heat in the Street, Makin Magic, Hammerhead, Makes No Difference, Crash and Burn and many other heavier songs that didnt get the airplay. Way better live than the studio recordings might seem. Love him about to plug in and bang his opening chord in front of the old record exec at the label, on the cover, then you flip it over and he's blown the guys toupee off and sonically destroyed his office. Makes me chuckle thinking about it. I still have this on vinyl from back then, its in my first 10 or 15 album purchases in my early teens, which became hundreds. Still listening in 2024, to all that great music back then
I saw these guys at the Silver Dollar Saloon in Lansing, Michigan, back in 1987. Bought this album on cassette and wore it out. I have it on my iPod now. Great live band, killer album.
Let's give some love to Paul 'Tonka' Chapman who had the nightmare job of replacing Michael Schenker. I saw both men back in the day and Tonka did a surprisingly good job of filling in. Not perfect but very admirable considering the situation he was thrown into. I also saw UFO once with Brad Gillis on lead guitar. No comment. He tried. 😉
Phil 'Colon' describing Michael Schenker's technique and ability as 100% ordinary is pretty f'n funny. Michael is a living legend. Phil is a nice guy and good player in an unusually popular power pop band that licks UFO's ass in terms of rock n roll heaviness. His band is the Justin Bieber of British metal compared to UFO, Judas Priest and Iron Maiden for example. The Leps are a girly band compared to these iconic British bands.
I too was turned on to UFO & many great bands from older siblings. Hearing this music changed my life and made me become a musician . Getting to see this band live with my sisters and brother was awesome back in the 70s. I can't much say anything about music today . I know there are many great artists out there but this music is what it's all about .
I remember Michael saying that Phil Moog was a puncher, and would punch him while he played his guitar.and he grew tired of it. He said he told Phil, if he ever did it again, he was going to leave the band for good. Did he mention anything like that in this video? Maybe I missed it.
