I am great lover of G&S and particularly the ESSGEE productions that played in New Zealand & Australia. Hope you like my treasure trove of Essgee bounty. I see from their website that they are doing a new production of The Mikado. I sure hope it comes to New Zealand.
I don't mind the liberties that they took with this production; it is entertaining and not too gimmicky. BUT the rinky-dink synthesizer in the orchestra pit sounds like five wind-up music boxes. You had a nice set, nice costumes, excellent performers... you couldn't spring for a decent orchestra? SMH.
Gosh, we're scared and gosh, we're frightened, 'Cause our itty-bitty new friend Has his teeny-weeny brain all set On blowing us to bits. O, how horrible, deplorable, This really is the pits!
Jon English in the 1994 EssGee production will always be my absolute favourite Pirate King!! Bar non! He was beyond fantastic, probably the best representation of a character I ever saw. I saw all three EssGee versions when they toured QLD back in the nineties, and it's where I fell in love with theatre and musicals.
I am the very model of a modern major general I’ve information seminal and cultural and federal And regional and functional and fictional and textual Abominibidible- Abdominidible- Can’t say that word!!
David Gould has a face of a lady killer and the voice of an angel. So deep and smooth, I keep reading reviews saying he's one toned and dull but I swear I could listen to him for hours. I like the 1997 movie for Buttercup though personally
Magnificent casting, beautiful costumes, backdrop and staging and choreography- it’s of the highest I have ever seen in this production - but sadly the organ accompaniment ( as skilled as it is) spoils this production for me - these talented singers and actors are undermined by the musical accompaniment, a great shame in my opinion
I love the addition of new verses. I think the traditional encores are a lot of fun, but this gives something new to people who have seen the usual oh so many times
