On this channel, I make video essays about horror games. I want to write more than "Full Story Explained" videos, which reduce these titles to simple plot threads to be unpacked. It is the systems and atmosphere that interest me, and I hope to explore them in my videos.
22:40 if you keep examining you eventually get a line like "i'm disgusting," i think the protagonist definitely has some body issues great analysis btw
I still think it’s a shame you didn’t mention Jack Baker in this video cause he’s my personal favourite stalker enemy and one that’s manages to consistently make me laugh while also making me scared shitless. The way he’s programmed compared to Mr X is unpredictable since he doesn’t exactly follow a set path and instead wanders not to mention he gets really quiet at times so when I was playing RE7 to get trophies for the platinum he’d always manage to get the jump on me.
My reason for not including him is your limited contact with him. He really only stalks you for the first third of the game. However, if I were to remake the video, I probably would spend more time talking about him. I loved Jack and Re7.
I might agree. The horror sort of wanes after the first chapter. But Leshy's cabin (the atmosphere, the dark, the 'being captured', and the gruesome tone) makes for one hell of a horror setting. This is a roguelike before anything else. The story gets better and better with each chapter
Quick info/speculation from SuperHorrorBro: the diary entries are from the pritagonist. She was the one with the toxic boyfriend. Thats why later you have to eat to continue through safely, she had really bad body dysmorphia.
I love the theory that the dead bodies at the end are the officers who fled. There’s some comeuppance in the idea of them abandoning their men and immediately getting merked and it shows how unforgiving the wider war is that they left, promising to get help and barely got 3 feet from the exit, meaning no help was ever coming.
im gonna be honest, i think Mr. X kinda sucks. Since there aren't any stealth mechanics or ways to elude him, he's just a moving roadblock that forces you to take a detour sometimes. With The Beast, he can be eluded and subdued, meaning he's seen few enough times so that the times that he does come out, whether that be from you messing up, an unnaccounted for variable, or the game just deciding to do a little trolling, you're forced to utterly run for your life through cramped hallways, hoping you can avoid any tripwires or rat infested corpses on the way back to a hiding spot.
I was shitting myself through the entirety of amnesia the bunker. I barely even meet "the fucker" i remeber hiding in the chapel and he opened the door right in front of me. I was lucky to get a shot at his dumbass (sorry for bad english)
After experiencing what Frictional Games is taking forward for their future after experiencing The Bunker? I think they're the only available developers within the industry to ACTUALLY develop a future horror game, with a roaming monster having the same AI experience from Alien: Isolation *Yes...* I very much HONESTLY believe that they are the true successors to those who created Alien isolation.
wait what i wanted to criticize this video as i thought it had like 500k views but its only 1000? woah. i wont be so harsh then. anyway, my point is that this game is still not scary. once you know how the enemies work, its over. you can be scared for loot, for game over or whatever. but its not like its actually scary. tbh i cant even imagine a scary game today. once you've seen the jumpscare and restarted from checkpoint/started over after losing everything and the run, once you know how to fight or escape them, its over. no horror game can be terryfying after these 2 factors. 1st death (thats already enough) and 1st moment of realisation how to fight/escape. thats it
Alien: Isolation really is perfection. I was only able to play through it long ago with someone else with me the whole time. Alien is my favorite movie though so I need to beat it on my own.
the best detail in the game is when u get to a certain part of the game, the beast will be near your safe room waiting for u, that scared me out like 3 times😭😭
3:02 "while I do appreciate the absence of autosaves, the manual saving is unlimited. Thus I was able to decide to do suicide runs to gather information, then die and reload with more resources and the knowledge needed to complete an objective more efficiently." You just summed up the gameplay loop right there. I was terrified hiding in admin for my first two hours playing, then I realized I could just hit pause and load save everytime I got caught and do whatever it is I needed to progress through trial and error. Blew through the game in 5 hours after I learned the strat, plus farming wine bottles full of fuel and having the generator never go out was a huge plus.
I honestly haven’t played this game, because I’m scared easily. This breakdown was incredibly helpful and I’m excited to try this game out one day. Lot of haters that want to compare this to OG Amnesia, but it’s not the same.
I'm glad the breakdown helped, but I would highly recommend trying it yourself. If this game was more like the OG Amnesia, I wouldn't have made this video.
Always liked this game it is an old gem. Something about this game is really cool to me, the gritty style and one of the only horror games ive seen that takes place on a ship which is odd i think. Great job on the video you have earned a sub i'll be checking your other content out!
The Monster is Amnesia The Bunker is a joke. I've finished the game on hard by simply sprinting everywhere so fast that he couldn't catch me. If he got close ı would just run to the safe room, store stuff and sprint back out, even had a bug where he ı could see him clipping through the bunker as game desperately tried to reposition it to match with my speed.
I hope that you enjoy this video, and accept all of my speculation as fact. Please consider leaving a like, or even subscribing, as I have a video in the works on Kira's latest game: 'Lunacid'. Also, I'm finally reading The Divine Comedy. I may need to remake this video.
I also thought it was so clever how Mr. X reversed the survival horror "Better run and safe amo" tactic! Having played various Resident Evil games before starting with RE2 Remake i went about saving amo as much as possible, lurking around lickers and leaving zombies be as often as possible. Once Mr. X appereared i regretted that decision very fast, especially in the hallways with the lickers :D
Nemesis from the RE3 remake is such a dreadful case of wasted potential. He should’ve been a better version of Mr. X from RE2 remake. I also wish on the highest difficulty it could be toggled so Save rooms can be entered by all enemies, forcing players to actually be clear before going in.
I love this game! Its odd that its sequel became a dead by daylight clone. I think it would have been cool for the sequel to add more maps, monsters and ways to escape!
Yeah I'm gonna disagree on the Alien Isolation Xenomorph being better than the Bunker beast. The Xenomorph can end up hanging around the room you're in for way too long to the point that staying in hiding becomes a really obnoxious game of waiting at which point I am too annoyed to be scared anymore and it being tethered to your position means this can happen stupidly often unless you play like you're trying not to wake up your parents at 3 AM at all times, which is not good especially for a game that's like ~20 hours. I had to beat Alien Isolation with a mod that gets rid of the tether just to make the game bearable for me. And I know you made this before the update where it was implemented, but the bunker beast can be made unpredictable using modifiers.
You made such a good Video and explained it extremly good so you defenetly get a Sub and like from me 😊, also could you make a Video around the 10 most Scary Monsters in Horror Games?
While not stalker enemies, forbidden Siren enemies that can't be killed along with the atmosphere of the game, really makes it scary and true horror experience. If it was more open ended and not linear(at some levels), it could be less tedious and annoying.
The only complain I have about the roaming monster is that they can feel too tethered to the player and bring them out of the experience for a bit which I suffered in amnesia. It being more unpredictable and roaming around like Mr.X lets it feel more realistic and horrifying for when it eventually finds you.
I might be in the minority here but I really don’t like that the Xenomorph from AI is tethered to the player. Though even with that said I do think it’s the best stalker we’ve had so far. Mr. X is a close second ofc.
Played amnesia the bunker on hard mode, now playing alien isolation on hard mode I will say I prefer The Bunker Beast over the Alien, only because it was my first only real survivor horror enemy, and it’s a lot easier to deal with I think the Alien is fucking terrifying, it’s so balls to the wall smart, kinda unpredictable too. It deserves #1 in my heart but the Bunker Beast was my boi. I also liked the setting a lot more. But yeah realistically the Alien is top tier, king AI, I am scared shitless of it, and having so much fun with the game. It really forces you to make quick and risky decisions
Looking back, I don't think that I gave the Bunker Beast the credit that he deserves. He worked so well with the setting, and it's even more unsettling when you know that it's actually your friend. A lot of the shortcomings can be attributed to the much smaller team/budget.
@@Mr_Clean21 EXACTLY! You did a great job with the video though. I think I’ve been binging your channel, so don’t beat yourself up about it I do wish Amnesia The Bunker was longer and had a greater budget, it ended too quickly, I need more bunker beast! DLC anything, I need to go in blind once again yo! There’s just something about ignorant terror that captivates me
