Hey Daniel. Why did you let Terry open with Enid dancing to Bollywood music on her television. I read your comic book. Enid is not inspired by that stuff. Enid is a product of a broken family, a precocious mind, and contempt for the suburban american materialism of her peers. In other words, Enid is punk rock. Not an "internationalist" who finds inspiration in other world cultures and music. Bollywood music opening I guess is kinda cool in the way the movie Kill Bill embraces 50's music. However, it doesn't serve your 8 chapter comic anthology. Also, your comic book has many weird "strong faced" characters throughout. Movie casting of John Ellis, Al the waiter,...,etc. was terrible.
It's bc Enid in the movie, it's not the Enid of the Graphic novel, she has a moment that she almost say that she isn't a punk rock, I think they changed bc the characters are more based than exact copies, and I know that is a adaptation, however develop the characters like the comics it's way harder in a movie, it should have been a series, I guess.
First off, that’s Clowes’ Indian tape. He showed it to Zwigoff and suggested it… Before writing the screenplay, Zwigoff and Clowes decided the film would NOT be a cinematic interpretation of the comic but rather something else, something in addition. That’s why Clowes began to feel confused while writing both simultaneously. He knew the Enid he was writing for the film was a different Enid he was writing for the comic and he needed them to be separate… I understand where you’re coming from and might agree at least partially if the film had not been written by Clowes and Zwigoff. But those two guys are about as “punk” as it gets in terms of being interested in and inspired by things outside the mainstream and making work on their own terms. Check out the commentary of the film for more info. Ps. There was a time (Enid’s time, early 90’s) when a kid had to go to strange places to find VHS tapes of obscure anything and some would make that effort to seek those things out- in this case the Bollywood scene, which by the way is Indian music inspired by 60’s garage music which again, is punk, is something, at that time, a normal kid her age would not know about let alone seek out. So, Enid is punk for finding it, enjoying it and even continuing to seek out more of it in the film, with little success. Pps. Kill Bill I’d say is probably a good example of something Enid would actually hate. Haha 😉 I said punk way too much in this comment which of course is not punk at all. Duh Ppps. What I’d like to know from Zwigoff and Clowes is why they chose to use a Country Blues Record for the scene where she buys it from Seymour that does NOT contain the Skip James track she becomes hypnotized by. Why not just use the Yazoo LP? Oh wait, I just figured out why. Never mind. 🙏🏽
Not sure why he collects that lol but it would explain why his self insert in Ghost World (Seymour) also has a fascination with segregation era artifacts
