I'm Boston guy grew up right on the coast just south of the city, sailing is spiritual in a way, moving through the water with just the wind were special moments of my life, sailed a small 21 foot when I was young . Great views. Thank you.
It’s a nice boat if the bottom has been redone. Ours is mostly new from the waterline down. If not it’s worth negative dollars. Fun to race, even though I stink as a Catalina 30 sailor all my life to this now. Even funner to cruise with my family though.
Awesome teachable moment on the importance of mainsail trim to control balance. About one minute into the video ITB tacks, a Melges 24 can be seen approaching on the right side of the scene (Melges will have right-of-way). A few seconds later the committee boat sounds horn to start five minute start sequence. A few seconds later ITB settles into port tack, Melges (still on starboard tack) is now at the twelve o'clock position heading towards ITB. A few seconds later... 1:09: Foredeck to Skipper: "Melges at twelve." Headsail Trimmer to Skipper: "Melges." 1:10: Skipper/Helmsman starts falling off 1:11: A gust of wind, ITB gets overpowered and starts rounding up, Skipper looses control of helm. 1:12: Skipper to mainsail trimmer: "Let out the main." 1:13: Starboard side Mainsail Trimmer attempts to release sheet from self tailer but it gets hung-up on winch handle. 1:14: Melges crew starts coming up to avoid collision (assuming they anticipate ITB will fall off). 1:15: Trimmer works line loose and releases mainsheet, ITB falls off just moments before plowing into Melges. 1:16: Melges crew shits pants... allegedly I'll be using this video when I teach Bernoulli's Principle. Thanks for posting!
