My ex-boyfriend used to work for PG&E in FRC, and he told me about the derailment and also about the time a train car carrying cars went into the river...
When I see how poorly supported the rail line is, I understand why a train could derail. It did happen and will again if nothing is done to support the train weight on a more stable ground....
When Warren Buffet bought this line, it was declared to be unsafe and such not even passenger cars can travel it. Rock falls every day, fast river, steep canyon walls. So isolated that people in neighboring counties have no idea it exists.
Cameron Wade THEY are suspended to stand at attention and watch the train on both sides for structure infractions,,, RAIL that needs more attention,,, ballast conditions because everything has been Disturbed,,, also The hard work has been done over night,,, ALL Night Long,,, they kinda TIRED,,, just the final inspection of track conditions remain,,, and The dozer's and heavy lifting equipment come in to drag AWAY The damaged rail cars,,, AND unload the remaining grain,,, used too feed cattle MAYBE,,, then cutting torches cut the rail cars UP,,, then cleanup will last several months STILL
Can you imagine being the engineer of that train? I'd be shaking in my shoes seeing the other train spread all around. Also, they say the tracks have been repaired but the wreck is still there. With the terrain you couldn't get heavy equipment in there, so I expect the only way to get those cars out would be to cut them out in pieces small enough to haul up onto flatcars.
I was the engineer on that train. We were waiting for that train that derailed 28 hours before that. We didn’t think twice, once the track is open, it’s good to go.
Derailments are,,, THE ONE'S THAT REALLY anger ME are the careless driving trucks and tractor trailers,,, those Derailments ARE uncalled for...THE RAILROADS are getting more TRAFFIC and TRAIN movement DAILY,,, ANYONE who mistakes SEEING a set of RAILROAD main line and all the caution signs,,,, SHOULD get their license revoked for 4 years...especially if they purposely TRIED TO beat THE train and caused a derailment.,,
Your emphasis is a bit off and confusing. I agree that people who drive in front of trains are extremely careless and should not have a license, but what does that have to do with this video? Railroad companies need to stop being so careless with their track maintenance. A train derailed right down the road from me back in 2000, and it was loaded with chemicals that blew up, and continued to blow up for several days, because no one could risk getting close enough to do anything until they knew all of the flammable cars had exploded. I've got more of a problem with these companies who don't take every possible precaution when they are transporting hazardous material.
Wow! Loved that, the long zoom shots exaggerating the curves, dips and bends in the track, that mournful whistle, superb! But tell me, just how much assistance were those diesels giving on the climb? Three units seemed a little OTT for the load and 844 appeared not to be working too hard...
