I would say age has its pros and cons. I don’t think the brain part will affect any learning. As an adult we are constantly learning new systems for work/ new technologies. The pros of age for me is I’ve learned discipline and to setup a plan to maximize my practice time. Also as adults we have the experience of what it’s like to learn something from starch. I believe the only thing holding us back is our bodies limits. So I’m 32 and overweight working on health and learning to skate. I’ll never go pro but I know for a fact if I grind and put the work in, I’ll accomplish more than I expect I can in skating. Cons for adults is our bodies we get sore tired faster and we may need more rest.
I relate to this heavily as someone who can easily get stuck in their own head and who lives in a town where the only social activities are drinking at bars and church, for me skating has given me a form of meditation away from depressive thoughts that could lead me into self-destructive activities. Also, the aspect of skating that makes it my favorite is that you don't need to have friends to do it, for all you need is your board, the street, and some spunk. Thank you for this video as I always come back to it when I forget about why skating is so unique among many sports.
I'm complete noob but i can ollie And what really helped me to get my tirst ollies was that you jump first and than pop and you don't really have to slide your foot against the grip tape. Most important thing for leveling oit your ollie is pressing against the nose and then pushing down. And for higher ollies have everythibg parallel and straighten your leg when jumping. And when you olliing high then push the board behind you so you keep traction (it also makes it easier to level out the board). Hope this helps
kickflip back tail to fakie was cleannnnnnn This is mad inspiring, I started skating at 25 and have definitely been hungry, 26 now and almost 27. Hitting learning obstacles had me doubting that I was too old to skate. Seeing you learn switch, nollie, and combo tricks like that gives me a lot of hope. Ima stay after it and hoping you are too 🫡
i started around 6 yrs old 43 now! took a few years off when i went to operation iraqi freedom and then about 6 years off after two spinal fusions. Ba k at it again teaching my 9 year old and checking out all the skateparks in our area. the brain isnt the problem for most its the physical ability
IMO it simply comes down to how much you care, if you want to do it and get better, then you will. Your age is just a number, don’t let it control you.
Thinking of the ollie in two separate parts of getting your body off the ground and getting your board off the ground is genius. This is really helpful for people like me who like to compartmentalize
I had a similar experience with music. I didn't take up bass until I was 16, which is objectively quite old. However, by my mid-20s, I'd surpassed most of my peers though sheer hard graft. It's not really when you start something, but rather how much you're willing to put into it.
ro, if you really want to use it properly you have to apply a thin coat of it while your shoes are still new and keep adding a little every time you finish a session and it runs through it. My shoes went from lasting a month to lasting over a year and I can actually wear them for both skating and day to day because they dont look like bum shoes at all times. If your shoes look like this when you first apply shoegoo, you're already doing it wrong
I skated a bit around 18-20 years old and stopped after a couple of years. Here I am at 50, getting back into it so that I can spend some quality time with my 15 year old daughter.
Out of the box we'd take our shoes and create a toe rand and layer up the goo. My mom thought it was crazy until she witnessed the life of Kostons last longer than previous shoes.
I took a 16 year break from skateboarding. I'm relearning everything. I stuck with guitar since childhood and did decent with it, and dropped skateboarding. However, one thing I realized after learning guitar was that the most fun I had is when I was progressing and accomplishing new things. I eventually became bored and demotivated though, because I became satisfied with what I achieved. This is the same with when I was initially learning Spanish. It is never a bad thing to get into something new and expand your horizons! If anything, it is just getting the muscle memory back, but I can comprehend a lot more than when I was a kid skating!
Dude I used to skate in the late 70s early 80s I just bought a few boards( longboard, low glider, popsicle) I should’ve bought some gear too. I’ve wiped out bombing hills, wiped out riding bowls, I can barely walk , I got cracked ribs but I’m still skating. WOw it hurts.
Trying to teach gkids etiquette but since I posted this, I was trying to show how to learn to manual, when a kid come tac tac tac right into me causing me to fall on his trucks on my left ribs. Wow that hurts.
