This is the process of differentiation - to realize one is a separate and sovereign entity with a responsibility to one's self and surroundings. The white, academic, pseudo-intellectual goal is to break down differentiation and encourage enmeshment - the idea that self is not separate from other and self can influence other from within. This reversal of spirituality leads to a weakening of the world as fewer people are looking inward to make inward changes that are reflected in how we interface with the world, enacting outward change. Being softer and more able to appreciate peace goes hand in hand with being hard enough to be willing to fight to enforce it; one must embody both Gevurah and Chesed.
I think 9/11 and the wave of patriotism that followed afterwards slowed this process down. Now we are seeing it in the US. It seems way too late to turn it around now.
Understand that this is being seen through the lense of communism but this can be applied to fascism or any extreme authoritarian ideology. As Americans we need to be looking at the rise of musulinin and the complexity of nazism.
