Hey what's up everyone, welcome. I've been playing guitar for 30 something years. I'm 45, don't have a band and live in Townsville Australia. I love playing the guitar and helping others who want to play. For business enquiries email me on Lambchopper678@me.com or follow me on Facebook facebook.com/lambchopper678

The gotoh has been my choice for years now. I've got bunches of them installed on my jap charvels. Nothing against the ofr, i just initially thought it the proper bridge for a jap guitar and have been impressed with the quality. One nice touch i haven't seen anywhere else are the countersunk screw holes in the brass block that secure the springs in place.
My 2019 Jackson Super Strat and it's sounds kick-ass ! The license Floyd Rose works great, it's setup great and does its job great ! If I ever need to replace it with a Gotoh I will do so based on your video !
I find it sounds better in the chorus if you grab the higher power chords from the A string. Cuts out any noise between notes. James plays it that way in the mid 80s. Amazing job here. I still can't get through this whole song myself.
Great vid as usual! For what it's worth, Aussie company PASTFX makes a 1 for 1 clone of the tc bld Scott Ian used and its super affordable! Verlie makes great pedals too, I've had a few of hers!
I’m glad to see you’re into Charvels. They’re such great guitars. Metal players naturally gravitate towards the super aggressive Vs and such. But the Charvel neck blows everything out of the water. I used to think neck through construction was the best for tone. Not true at all. Bolt on construction has such a great character and feel. I’m a Charvel player for life.
My 'go to' guitar in the studio for the last 30+ years is my Sadowsky NYC S Style, which cam fitted with the Gotoh 1088 bridge - impeccable piece of work. They stopped making so Roger switched to the Gotoh 510, altho he mentioned that here is still a version of the 1088 available, but it is inferior to the one he used to use. I'm upgrading a couple of guitars right now and will be going for all Gotoh hardware - that's after long discussions with my guitar tech and exploring many options out there. I should mention I don't use the whammy bar quite the way you just demonstrated! 😅Good luck with the upgrade!
That's a Dean? Well, the best thing ever is the lack of that horrible headstock they had. I would actually buy one of these. L:ooks like they finally got it right after flogging the (really ugly and stupid looking) for so many years. My only caveat would be the active pickups. they are nothing but gimmick.
These videos are kind of depressing because it personifies the decline in music just like live bands. Literally the only keepers of the flame are graybeards.
Whyyyy, whyyyy I didn't see this video two weeks earlier!!? I swapped the Lo-trs II trem on my 2002 Ibanez RGT42 with 1996t Gotoh, but I did it the hard way - with half an hour tunning. This trick with the wooden block is very very neat!
I don't like Gotoh. EVERY TIME I tried them I snapped the bar right out! I love the locking system of the Floyd's bar, its super reliable. I love Floyds. Now that being said, the actual best bridge I ever had was an Ibanez Edge Zero II. Man that thing was UNREAL! Extremely consistent! The bar had a little plastic ring under the locking screw that made it have ZERO wabbling no matter what! I regret selling that guitar, it was an absolute work horse of massive sound! It was an Ibanez RG 350MZ, black with a maple scale and a Seymour Duncan SH6. KILLER sound! I was an idiot and sold it. I'll get another one eventually!
And Ibanez puts Edge Zero II on relatively affordable guitars. Other manufacturers put terrible Floyd Rose Special in guitars priced up to 1000$. So respect to Ibanez for this. By the way, Edge Pro tremolo was designed and produced by Gotoh for Ibanez, so it's possible that Edge Zero also was designed by Gotoh.
Got a similar problem with an Ibanez Edge III trem system. It's okay enough for now (Spent way longer than I would have liked setting it up) , but I know for sure it's gonna wear sooner than later. You recommend the Gotoh 1996t to replace it? You know which version I'd need to drop in?
So why is my licensed Floyd still holding tune and never needed to replace a single part having gone from drop A up to E standard over the course of 18 years? No tuning or stability issues.
Once again, my man nailed the tone! and still, all these years later, it's still so hard to believe that the man that was my greatest musical influence is no longer on this earth.
Neither. The best whammy bar on the market is the Virtual Jeff Pro. It does a lot more, is programmable to your needs, tracks flawlessly, and never touches your strings so nothing goes out of tune.
Great video. I replaced my Schecter Banshee Elite Floyd Rose by the Gotoh 1996t, including I made the holes bigger & a little deeper to fit the adjustable studs posts. The bronze block gave me more sustain and clarity, but you must deal with the height of the block that is larger than the Floyd rose (here you must either remove the back cover or modify it...). The other key aspect is glued the posts to the wood holes avoiding displacements, fot that I used Suprabond contact glue (transparent), to finally leave them well placed with no movements, no displacements and no problems to adjust. Finally I was convinced to replace it because I saw better metal machining of the whole steel pieces in the Gotoh, better done and finished, and by the locking posts capability, that turns more stable the tuning. Final tip for stability of tuning: lubricate the Block's insert holes of the springs, the other contact point of the spring to the Claw and the heads of the screws in contact with the steel plate of the claw (all are friction points), light oil for moving parts of machines or small gears works great.
