Thank you for all your comments and messages. Mendez had a huge impact not only on my trumpet playing, but on my life, and it's my pleasure to allow both old and new generations of musicians a chance to see the legend play again.
If you'd like to learn more about Rafael Mendez, I recommend the book "Magnificent Mendez." It's a remarkable read, detailing the life of the late, great Mendez.
You can learn more about the book here: www.allaboutjazz.com/php/article.php?id=21893
And Dave Hickman sells the book on his website: www.hickmanmusiceditions.com/select2.asp?selection=39
Ehen properly motivated humans can be pretty awesome. Another example are those math ladies at NASA that worked out all the critical calculation. Pretty smart of you ask me
I have been listening to this legendary trumpet player for over 50 years, was fortunate to attend one of his concerts in 1974, and met him twice. I have listened to his recordings thousands of times and am always amazed. There will never be another Rafael Mendez.
The first master trumpet player I was introduced to by my High Scool marching band director in the late 90s. All I can say is "THE ONE AND ONLY RAFAEL MENDEZ" 🙌🏾✨️👏🏾🔥🔥🎶🎺🎵👌🏾🎞⭐️
I've persuaded myself that wealth can be measured in many ways. I don't have much money but I got to hear Rafael Mendez play his trumpet in person in the 1950s. I will be forever grateful. That was only one of the several ways music has enriched my life. How can a person consider himself poor who can say that?
