He made me feel comfortable not by saying things to me but by the way he performed the surgery. I could realise immediately one it started, that I was in good hands. Once it was done all he said was "All done ! It went well with no complications". That's all I needed to hear. I had this surgery at Optegra by optegra's consultant surgeon who despite multiple clinical negligence cases is still performing their surgeries today. This appalling surgery has destroyed my life entirely. I have been left fighting for my sight and battling chronic pain years after the surgery. I am unable to work or leave the house and require constant carer's help. I was told I was a good candidate and that my surgical outcome was great. When i complained of symptoms and was refused post surgery care I was told I had signed the consent form and that it was not their responsibility. They simply referred me to the NHS where I and others have remained ever since. Now having spent years learning about this surgery and the industry behind it, I can confidently describe it as a borderline scam made possible by a total lack of regulation the world over. It is an unthinkable commoditisation of human eyes. This will be exposed in time, but until then I would encourage anyone who is prospectively exploring this surgery for themselves to at the very least to convince themselves by asking Optegra and their consultant surgeon if either have had any clinical negligence cases put to them relating to laser eye surgery. You will find they will struggle to answer you.
These surgeries have destroyed so many lives including my own. There’s not a day that goes by that I don’t think about how much I hate having to live with the complications that refractive eye surgery has caused. Getting it was the biggest regret of my life. These surgeries don’t do anything good. The cornea was never meant to be cut into. They literally comprimise and destroy the integrity and structure of the eye. Anyone can wear glasses and almost anyone can wear soft contact lenses. It’s absolutley disgusting that you promote these horrible and completely unnecessary prodecures. I could never live with myself knowing that I’ve literally caused people to take their own lives because they could not handle the horrible vision issues and/or severe eye pain these surgeries can cause. Clearly you can somehow live with yourself but you have to be a completely souless person to profit off of the misery of others and be alright with this. What goes around comes around.
Had my right eye done in June as an elective at Stoke Mandeville…ten minutes and genuinely painless…quite extraordinary. Driving the next day. Too easy.

Doctor, question please: I have had cataract surgery in my R eye for distance and it has worked giving me better distance vision. Next, I am doing a contact lens trail for short distance in my L eye. If I then go ahead with cataract surgery for near distance in the L eye (which has a more minor cataract compared to the right eye but I prefer to get this done now rather than later in life) and if after surgery I find I can't focus and see the detail on my computer screen for my work, will glasses help in this situation? Also, can I get glasses that will enhance distance vision for when I am driving?

One year after surgery LASIK patients have a 2% to 20% likelihood of having painful eyes, dry eyes, and vision distortions. LASIK corneas never completely heal resulting in 2% with sight-threatening ectasia, retinal detachments, recurrent corneal erosions, and other complications. Also, 20% - 40% will have dry eyes, painful eyes, and vision distortions persisting for years after surgery. A large percentage of LASIK patients have difficulty with daily visual tasks, at least 2% but probably much higher. Did your corneal refractive surgeon (clinic) explain these risks to you? These are the risks with the most modern devices approved by FDA used by experienced surgeons. What did your surgeon tell you?"
PLEASE READ THIS: If this message prevents one unnecessary surgery then it would have been worth it. I had refractive surgery at Optegra London and it has left me severely disabled. They tell you the risks are nothing to worry about and you are a great candidate. Then when you complain after the surgery they don't take you seriously and make you feel like a burden. They refuse action and the cost of medication you desperately need. When it became clear my eyes were degenerating out of control they simply referred me away to NHS. They continue to ignore emails and deny the aftercare they promised. Two years on now I am unable to work, drive and look after my child. It has destroyed my life and my families lives. I'm in pain every day and my quality of life is so low suicidal thoughts are a constant battle. Please please please do not let commercially motivated surgeons like ones at Optegra who prioritise business over human life fool you into their shady operation.
