Yeah, new pack weight is 23lbs without water. Not sure how the hell I managed to pack 50lbs. We also had extra pair of shoes and heavy outer shells that contributed.
Sweet, my register sheet was still up from 3/25/2022 (first row)! 🤙 Less snow for me on the last 400’, and roped up with a pro guide both up and down, nicely done unroped! 👏
You'll need a permit (non-quota). I hiked into the portal and beyond this week and there is about 10-15 feet more snow on the ground than you see in this video, so DO NOT USE this video as an Idea for what the conditions will be like this year. You'll need an Ice axe and crampons.
@@michaelechsner Yes, we are preparing for the winter ascent with full equipment. Could you share with me info how can I get the permit for April period?
Nice. I think it's gonna be different story early season this year - huge snow year for the Sierras. I enjoy your video and I'd like to get cucked by a BBC.
We hiked little Yosemite in Sunol on Saturday. Definitely could see some good coverage in the Diablo Range. I heard people were waiting for hours to get into Mt Diablo on Saturday. Growing up here I’d fantasize about our terrain with a good base and 18” of powder. Would be some epic lines.
Nice 👍 thanks for posting. Did you hike up? If so great effort! Also try getting to Sunol Regional Wilderness above Del Valle. Roughly same elevation but more exposure tends to pick up some good snow ❄️
Good work Michael. I'm planning the same thing this weekend, August 6th. Do recommend any spikes for those snow patches? Did you happen to record your route on All Trails?
Thank you! Regarding the snow patches, spikes would help but it’s a very short segment. If you have good balance you should be fine without them. I did not record my hike on all trails but I used the app constantly to help stay on trail as it disappears often.
Looks like a beautiful and challenging adventure Michael! Congrats on the summit, the best feeling ever after a mean hike/climb up the wall ;) Looking forward to follow your future adventures. Have a great weekend, Mario
My pack was probably 12 lb when I hit Whitney doing the John Muir Trail. No mountaineering route though. 20 lb at Muir Trail Ranch is days From Whitney.
brings back lots of good memories first climbed whitney on mothers day 1981 a big snow year later many more times including the east face and east buttress. i even took my son and daughter up the mountaineer's route when my son was 20 and my daughter was 13. it seemed easier back then than you guys show. but i will say you did a good job of showing how much hard work is involved to get to the top. BUT WORTH IT RIGHT?? you guys should try to climb all 15 peaks over 14,000 feet in ca. i did it and i think i have the record for taking the longest 1981 to 2017!!
