The squeeze LD version is so sharp and clear, and the colors are spot on perfect and not off in any way. I have this film on Blu-ray, and I'll have to watch it and compare it to the squeeze LD disc. But I did notice the Hi-Vision Muse disc was so cloudy. I can't believe the company who put the Hi-Vision muse disc out didn't pay more attention to quality or notice the way the picture looked.
Hi, very interesting and very educational video on a video format. I wanted to ask you were you able to digitize/acquire them? Did you make personal backup copies of the hi-vision muse discs? Thanks for any response and information. Best regards.
Just found your channel. LOVE your videos. Collecting LDs (small collection) myself. Very nice to see your comparison videos as well. Are you still collecting? What upscaler and LD player would you recommend nowadays? Thank you 🙏
I really hope you come back and finish the set. Or at least pick a few of the more notable ones to show what Muse is capable of. I read that Jumanji is almost blu-ray quality, and I'd love to know if that's true.
@@robaloxxx I realize that making these videos is time consuming. If you don't have time to make them, can you just tell us which movie Muse discs are the best quality? I've heard that both Jumanji and Cliffhanger are good, but not quite as good as demo discs like the Sony Test Disc.
@@gutsysquirrel3283 "River Runs Through It" it's the best looking movie IMO. It's however unfortunately the most boring movie released on Hi-Vision LD :-(
The hi vision is impressive and realy close to the new 4k transfert but lack the color of the THX release, i have an early 2k thx version on bluray that look like the thx laserdisc.
Watching this video on a lower end 55" 4K Vizio. I greatly preferred the THX clips. The colors on the muse version are far too washed out and there are too many artefacts.
I bought three theater I center channel speakers for $100 each and so far the first one I tested had poor clarity, but not just the center panel but also the tweeters as well. I was looking to keep 1 and sell the others but I'm not sure investing a $1000 into them will make them worth more than $1000. Thoughts?
The Theater should be comparable with the Focus ESL C18. So if it's only the panel that is bad, then you will basically get a $3K center speaker after you replaced it. But you also mentioned the tweeters might be bad. I don't know how much ML would charge for them. But you have 3 Theater, you would have really bad luck if all three have blown tweeters. Check that first and if you do not have to buy new tweeters as well, I would go for a panel replacement.
From someone who owns the 2012 Blu-Ray and has seen a rip of a VHS copy, it looks like this HV-LD was sourced from a 35mm print of the 1988 restoration, like the rest of its video releases up until the DVD, though it does look more green-shifted than any of its contemporaries. Later releases (Blu-Ray and 4K) are from the original 65mm negative.
The green tint is unfortunately a common artifact from the MUSE compression. My capturing however seems to reveal this more than what I actually can see when I watch it directly on my screen. Don't know why this is the case. Anyway, very interesting info, thanks for that! I'll need to get the 4K version once it's released on a single disc.
There is definitely more detail in the Hi-Vision. If you look at the hair on her head when she grabs the newspaper, you can make out the individual hairs much better. I suspect with some color/contrast correction on the playback set, the Hi-Vision would be the superior picture. It's just the low contract and a little of the blurry/smeary sampling that takes it down a notch.
yeah, much more detail. the odd and washed out colors on the Muse looks worse than what it looks like on the screen. I will redo the capturing when I have time and see if there is something in the setting I need to change to make it more look like what you see on the screen. Also I realized that the default rendering for youtube setting in DaVinci Resolve is 24fps. That's why you see the jerkiness. I will need to re render it in 60fps as well. I hope to get this done within April
Thanks. I have this same speaker that is now approx 20 yrs old and have noticed it sounds a bit muddy. I thought it was my ears going bad (and perhaps that _is_ part of the problem). Maybe I should consider changing the panel if it's not too pricey. How much did the panel cost you? I've seen videos of people washing their panels in the shower and gaining significant improvements. If I'm going to pay for a new panel, I may as well try the washing technique first. Did _you_ consider washing yours?
Washing can indeed make them sound better if it's contamination that is the cause. I've tried cleaning my panels after they have started to sound bad by gently giving them a rinse. It has helped a bit, but never brought back the full glory. You can read about it in the ML owners forum. But it seems the panels after prolonged usage start to lose their conductive coating and that that is the reason the sound deteriorate. Then it doesn't matter how clean they are, they will sound dull. Price very much depends on the model you have and I guess where you live. 2 Ascent panels including shipping to HK was ~U$1600 and the Theater panel U$950.
Wow thats a nice collection I wish I have one too, I have lots of retro player like beta, vhs, vcd, laserdisc,hd dvd up to the modern players like 4k bluray but that hd muse player I wish to have, what a fantastic collection
Y not 7 it crossed my mind to sell my collection once, but then decided not to, as I have enough Muse players, like 2 X0’s, 3 X9’s...it’s like something I love, and watch Back to the Future Trilogy once a year, E.T, etc.. only missing Twins and Showgirls, not very important for me. Just want to get my hands on Twins....
