I tried OH nursing, for a short time, it seemed incredibly boring, I went back to the ICU after 3 weeks on the job lol, the hours aren’t bad in that particular job though. I would recommend OH to people who don’t quite mesh well with high turnover jobs in the nursing field however, such as ICU, ER or psychiatric nursing. But still it’s a great career for most.
I have completed my msc in mental health nursing from India and now i am gonna pursue occupational health and safety management course in Lambton college sarnia After completing this course can I become occupational health nurse?
Hello Passang! Thanks so much for reaching out and congratulations on pursuing your career in Occupational Health. The Occupational Health and Safety Management course at Lambton College would not qualify for you to become an Occupational Health Nurse (OHN), you would need to complete the Registered Nurse Occupational Health Nursing program from Lambton College and be a Registered Nurse with the governing body in the jurisdiction in which you are intending to practice. For the Alberta Occupational Health Nurses Association (AOHNA), you would be eligible for Affiliate membership upon completion of the Occupational Health and Safety Management course, but you would not be able to call yourself an OHN with that training. If you have any additional questions, please reach out to us directly at admin@aohna.org.
You would need to check with whatever school you are looking to take your occupational health nursing course at. Most of them require that you are a Registered Nurse first.
