Loved your video nice job I have 3 of these radios (uhf) 2 i use for a gmrs repeater and they work great .. And the 3rd one tk 8102h-1 uhf must have been hooked up backwards I cannot get it to come on , a check of the continuity shows a closed circuit, I know enough about this stuff to be dangerous lol where is the reverse polarity protection at on this board ?
I have one of these still brand new in the box , I’m sure it needs recapped by now . I’d like to get in touch with you about doing it and the full 10/11 meter mod if you’re interested ??
I've had one of these refusing to turn on the past few years, so it has just been sitting in storage. I figured I'd take a look at it today, and it's crispy in EXACTLY the same spot. Nice timing on the upload!
I had the MARS mod done on one of my 857Ds. It messed up the automatic frequency shift for repeaters. The mod allowed me to transmit on 11m but since the radio isn't FCC certified it was legal unless under emergency situation. No longer interested in MARS I went back to original configuration. After I joined a volunteer fire department I kind of wished I left it alone. However, transmitting on FD frequencies on a non type accepted radio also puts a frown on the FCC's faces. Now the department uses UHF digital radios that are P25 so it doesn't matter anymore.
I like this. A little something different from radios. I have a few things that need fixing I could bring over! One is an electric scooter that turns on but doesn't move.
It's funny... I did this repair months ago and finally got around to editing the video. About a week after the video was published, the grill died again. I did however use it pretty steady over that time. Be prepared for a part 2 with some upgrades.
I came across two of these radios at a Garage Sale... One was already opened up they other this Mod worked fine...As for the Radio itself Im using a Magnetic 5/8 th wave and it reaches out and I get good audio reports so thats about it... Thanks
Do you know how to change the TX output power levels from the default settings on the FT-2980? I saw a video on it one time but can’t find it. So, I know it can be done. Thanks
I always use the same capacitance value, but i usually try to go one step up on the voltage rating if i can physically fit them in. Most new capacitors are a bit smaller in size so it works. A higher voltage value capacitor will last longer. It doesn't care what voltage it uses as long as you don't go over the rated voltage. I also purchase the highest temperature rated caps i can get and the longest hours i can get for a reasonable price.
TKS e big 73 from here of Brasil ✌️😆 Fica com Deus 🙏 Saúde e bons contatos é o que eu + desejo para todos amigos.
preformed this to my 2300H prolly 38 years ago maybe more, we worked with the local fire dept. back then, the ic-2300H was my fire radio, worked great, now i'm putting it back in my truck to get back into the ham radio end of it, thanks for the video, I forgot how I did this mod years ago,
You make that look very easy! The contacts are tiny, I did my 'D' model mainly with a silver conductive pen, as my solder skills were not as good a yours. I managed to remove some of the contacts with a fine tipped iron as required, but used the pen for the rest. Been working fine for quite a few years now.
Hi there from Northern Alberta! I just got this radio and did the mod. Worked as it should. Just wondering what programming software you use afterwards? The RT systems is nice but doesn't work after modded. Also chirp doesn't work for the mod. Maybe its possible to not do the factory reset after the mod? Progamming repeaters one by one in the radio is pretty tedious. Would like to hear your thoughts! Cheers.
I just got a 9800. Not my favorite radio by any means but it works. I should have just spent the extra and got one that matches my KG1000+. I did get the 9800+ if that makes a difference.
Your video helped me a lot in disassembling and reassembling my T1910 laptop. By the way, I replaced only one 1000μf 6.3V capacitor with a similar one and everything worked. Thanks for your video!
I take it that the radio was a throw away and you're just fixing it, correct (first time visitor)? The repair cost wouldn't be justified considering it's a fairly inexpensive radio. Good job though.
Yeasu Serial Decipher TO determine Date : How to decode Yaesu serial numbers and know exactly when your Yaesu radio was manufactured serial number of 9J271567 Position 1 = year made Position 2 = month made C = January D = February E = March F = April G = May H = June I = July J = August K = September L = October M = November N = December Position 3 and 4 = lot number(s) Position 5 to 8 sequence in that lot Position 1: last digit of the year in which the radio was produced Position 2: Determine the position of the letter in the alphabet (C=3,D=4,E=5, etc) then subtract 2. The result gives the month in which the radio was manufactured. Note that the letters will range from C (January) through N (December). Thus, my FT-817 radio with a serial number of 9J271567 would have been manufactured in 2009 (9), during the month of August (J, August is the 8th month), was part of lot 27, and was the 1567th radio in that lot. I did the Softmod on mine from 2003 . Someone hacked it to bits trying to do it with I assume a welding iron. I have 2 Japan models that the softmod opens up the RX but not the TX....The Japan models are only really good for HF since the VHF and UHF are different (minus 60M)
Getting ready to pick up a 2100 today. I’ll let you know if it’s been modified yet or I get to do it thanks for the great how to video new subscriber here
I have a clean 261 that was given to me. Everywhere I have read or saw, the output was nearing 50 watts but this one is 23 tops on my tester. Not sure what the issue is but good, cheap radio none the less
