Discovering Pennsylvania is primarily about visiting Cities, Towns and Places in Pennsylvania.
We visit a location, a City, Town, Place of interest, Historical Site, Interesting place, Abandoned Structure, Haunted structure or Place, and other things of interest in Pennsylvania. We obtain information on the site, take photos and sometimes video. Then we post it here on the website.
Pennsylvania is a beautiful state (Commonwealth, my bad) and there are numerous places and things to see here. We are never at a loss for a place to see in Pennsylvania.
Our format is down to earth, no fancy talk, no special effects, just strait talk and beautiful photos. We have a sense of humor, which you will see in our photos and videos.

Whew! Made me dizzy on the tour of the arches! Glad someone else did that! I guess the concrete is holding up well for it's age, maybe it will make it another 100 more years.

It is called Roaring Spring not Roaring Springs. There is only one spring, the Big Spring which is at the Spring Dam.

To the creator of this video, and those wishing to post informative tours online: This is an example of why it is best to hire professional camera persons orlearn something of filming. The viewer cannot get a fair appreciation of anything without any establishing shots, and there is no focus on anything. I was so pleased to see this, but swaying and jumbling and moving in directions known to the filmer but not to the viewer makes this hard to watch unless you like quick shots of random corners and blank ceilings in between close shaky shots of specific items accompanied by throat clearing. Ehhem. Its like a 1980s child's birthday on Dads old camcorder: whatever's in the shot is in the shot. "Smile and wave at camera honey!" And yet the guide is so informative, and good questions asked. Creator, I appreciate the idea and effort. The subject is interesting and fantastic. I am sure you and everyone else had a great time.

At its high point, how many people worked at the plant? You think of all the people who worked here all their lives, possibly for generations. It is truly a shame that at least some of the machinery could not have been saved for static display to give an idea of the size of the operation.

Love seeing a video about Centralia that isn't trying to hype up how "scary" or "creepy" the town is. It's just telling the story of a town - a place people used to call home and some still do. Beautiful.

When i was a kid i used to sneak in there and sit on the very top floor and imagine what it was like when it was running. I knew the breaker like the back of my hand from spending so many childhood days and nights running around inside the old buildings, it was my playground. And I miss it dearly. Some of my passed away relatives actually worked in there.

Nice to see some of the deteriorating concrete has been patched. I've been on the bridge a few times but never thought the arches. I'll leave that to others. I remember when it had 2 tracks and the station at the west end.

Please help me understand how something so interesting and truly a work of art could become just a memory? It should have been designated an historic landmark and preserved for generations to come. Mothball it if necessary, but don’t dismantle it. There was nobody in Pennsylvania with the interest and know how and maybe even the money to preserve this. Very sad.

Just a little tidbit of info. My father lives in Reynoldsdale. His property at one time housed the covered bridge that you now have to cross to get into Bedford Village. You can still see the stone bulkhead that held the bridge. I guess they moved it back in the 70's, before he owned the property.

I actually did a search for a video like this and was thrilled to find this one! This was my college summer job place from 1986 to 1989. We watched mentally-challenged kids at camp each summer (something we had exactly ZERO training for). We worked there by day (all the counselors were college kids) and we’d party on weekends, sometimes camping at the park. It’s insane to me that it’s no longer a functional state park.

Bought an airtight coal stove for the kitchen in an old farmhouse in Edison in '68. Nothing beat it for heat, but of course coal is verboten these days.

I still use it. Rice sized anthracite coal in an EFM stoker boiler. All automatic. Coal heat is the most comfortable heat. Set up properly, the fire never goes out, only up and down. When your thermostat calls for heat, the boiler is always up to temp so the heat is very steady and even

Running a legacy tlc2000 hand fired unit in my place , we love it ! Just wish I could by bulk in northern IL
@joecummings1260
@joecummings1260 3 года назад
@@mobiletech6289 yeah I'd like to have one of those hand fired stoves here. It would be nice in case the power went out or if I just want to heat the office and my apartment upstairs without having to run one of the big boilers. I'm guessing you're burning. nut coal. Here at the breaker picked up the nut is 150 per ton and the rice is 155 per ton. You could probably get some kind of a deal to get it hauled if you bought something close to a truck load say 20 or 25 tons. When I am at the breaker I see trucks getting loaded with anthracite going all to places as far away as you are
@mobiletech6289
@mobiletech6289 3 года назад
Yes sir burning nut , yeah I need get a full truck load ,otherwise I’m paying $325 a ton
@joecummings1260
@joecummings1260 3 года назад
@@mobiletech6289 right now the two cheapest places to buy in bulk are Jeddo in hazleton PA or premium fine coal in South tamaqua PA . They are within two or three dollars per ton of each other. Jeddo is probably closest if your trucker comes acrost route 80 It's crazy how much more is when it's sold in 40 lb bags. From what I understand it cost them like a dollar twenty-five to bag it. And then about $3 worth of coal sells for almost 7 bucks.

Great video that clearly explains the work involved in the processing of coal. It almost makes it look easy--but the seat and hard labor are not easy to show. But this is very educational.

The stone on the lower left of the picture was the marker of the spot where the children were found for fifty years! The significance of the stone is that is the same stone George Cox stretched his wool knit hat over to make a pillow for Joseph.
