There are so many good things I like about the SimulatOar sculling machine. It's back friendly. It's easy to set up and put away if you don't have much room . Since rowing on the water is the goal for most rowers the SimulatOar allows you to accurately simulate just about all the rhythms you want to learn and develop in a boat. Feathering, changing handle height at the catch and finish, unweighting the hands and accurately sequencing the drive are all a mystery to most people. On the SimulatOar you can practice and perfect these movements safely and develop the muscle memory to improve your work in a boat. With the floats and springs you almost don't want to close your eyes for fear of getting wet. The best part of the SimulatOar experience is the price. It's affordable. Compared to other sculling machines the cost benefit ratio is relatively so close to a a Concept2 machine it shouldn't be a factor in your decision . You have heard that ergs don't float....this one does.
Simon: T=You are right: It is better on the back that other ergometers and it better imitates the sculling motion ... where handle height and articulation matters...
Jim: You can see the custom (stand-alone) spring assembly fashioned by Calvin Coffey in this video: Coffey SIMULAT-OAR sculling ergometer Demo #2 The two pieces are fore and aft. They provide only a mild wobble. They come as an option.
I really like your rowing machine. Looks like your keeping in good shape with it. I joined the gym and they have rowing machine but it dont look as good as yours. I have not tried it yet. It has cables is all I think. I didnt know how to use it?
I've even put shoes (footstretcher assembly from the boat) on it, making the geometry the same as in a 1x... I expect this will help me once I get back on the water in a few months.
Nice! I had been thinking of building something like that for a while though, because I have a bad low back was planning a sliding rig. Much more elegant than where I was going with it.
Having a great time with it... Today I mounted my BatLogic foot stretcher assembly on it so I can be sure to be pushing off in the same manner as in my 1x.
