Hello Keith, I am Ward Watson class D87. I remember you from the Divest activities at Dartmouth. It was a formative time for me. Loved your book Ijust finished reading. I live in Greenville, SC and was lucky to see it at the local library. Although this is my home town, in this election cycle I am feeling my expression trapped here by the political environment. (This is the district of former rep Trey Gowdy) William Timmons went to my high school. Everyone around here seems so brainwashed. In Pickens county they are even voting out and ostracizing moderate, reasonable (?) repulbicans. By the way I am proud (unlike most whites in Greenville) that Jesse Jackson is from Greenville. He came home from college in Chicago and was refused entry to the Greenville Public Library to work on his papers for school. This became a protest. I went to school with the son of Carroll Campbell, former governer of SC, who made calls against integration back in the day. Things are becoming so polarized here. I went to see Jesse Jackson when the Ferguson stuff was going on as he organized a conference at the church in Greenville where he was once pastor. He was in town caring for his mother who was sick who had given birth to him at age sixteen. I knnow I am rambling but I would love to be able to talk with people like you you with whom I share many political beliefs. That being said, I am working on South Carolina from the inside out. I have a store called The Mushroom Spot (not what your thinking, really) but you should check it out. I plan to make say no to Trump stickers (the word trump in a circle with a line through it like a no smoking sign) and stick them all over Greenville. I am literally waiting until November until I decide what to do with the rest of my life.

President Trump is not racist! He doesn't judge a person on their color. He judges people according to their behavior and character. Just because a person is black does not mean they cannot be criticized.

I never understood racism as a kid because of what I saw. Now focusing on n accessibility I have a clearer picture. In 1958 as a (white) student at the University of Georgia I chose the Dred Scott case as a research topic for a paper to be orally presented in my history class. My position was that it was an unfair ruling and that Scott was a free man as should all people, no matter their race, be full citizens of the United States. My argument was not well received.
It's important to stay angry and hold on to all of those past injustices. Use that anger as motivation to vote democrat as they are the only ones who might help blacks. The democrats are the only party that has a history of helping blacks. If you don't vote Biden, you ain't black!
And on that notion, the case was never reopened and blk ppl in America were never mentioned to be citizens of the United States. All our contributions are voluntary. Taxation without representation. Once again the statue was never over turned, therefore blk ppl aren't citizens of the UNITED STATES

Demographic picture in the US has changed a lot since the "abolition of slavery" but nothing really changed in top positions, the masters are the same. And Afro Americans are still serving them, let's just say it would be unimaginable for me to work for Turks, let alone put on their uniform and go to war for them as some of my ancestors were forced to when they were enslaved.
The slave owner was black... ALL the slave owners were Black! I have the slave schedules from 1850 on my community wall check them out. We also owned the land... these census records and slave schedules show we're the American Indian history speaks of.
Most blacks have never heard the truth about slavery and think they were the only slaves, whites were slaves too and asians, and indians... Careful that you don't become the thing that you despise. The African leaders would objectify their female slaves and engage in mass killings. In South America, the Arab and North Africans weee there helping with enslavement why? Slavery never ended. Ownership of slaves were transferred from private individuals to the government. And these private individuals were compensated. READ THE FINE PRINT!
@@user-zv9um9pb6w you missed my point. Abraham Lincoln did not free slaves after the American civil war. He bought the slaves from individuals and transferred ownership to the federal government. That is something the media is quiet about.
@@user-zv9um9pb6wChattel slavery is not the same as any form of slavery prior to it. there are very few instances of Ottoman slaves being treated in as inhumane of a fashion as was the standard for chattel slavery in the US.

They were compensated to GIVE YOU FREEDOM. When slave owners were compensated it was because they were t going to give it up without 1) money or 2) war. People chose to avoid war by BUYING YOUR FREEDOM.
