They need to develop Simpang new town first to make the line viable, possibly connecting Seletar airport via MRT. Perhaps a few decades later after Tengah matures, this would be an option for them.

There were also rumours that Esplanade MRT station has an abandoned and unused platform/platforms for an cancelled/unannounced line Arts Centre Line. It is now an authorised personnel and restricted area as the entrance and exit is blocked inside Esplanade MRT station. Rumour has it that there was an unused lift shaft or elevator that leads to the unused/abandoned platform(s) but it was not confirmed as of now we’re not sure if the rumours are true or not…

@@mc1337 We sort of covered the pre-Nicoll Highway Collapse plans in our previous video about the Downtown Line's complicated history (link in the description and annotations). But as for the original plans for Esplanade station and the so-called Arts Centre Line, we really do not have a lot of concrete info other than the 2001 URA Concept Plan, of which is another whole complicated, contradictory can of worms I don't wanna get into. Everything else is just rumours that's hard to verify. Our usual process before producing even an SGLRH Extras episode is that we make sure that whatever info we have is solid, backed up with evidence and not just purely speculation without substance.

That's what so confusing about it! This looks like it would be one of those mysteries we will never get a clear answer for...Anyway, because information is so messy, and the remnants, if any, are areas that SMRT/SBS will never grant us permission to film, and we don't want the series to waste your time with speculative information only, the Downtown Line History video will probably be the closest we will ever get to approach this subject for now.

I hope that the NE2 Station on the North East Line will be Kampong Bahru MRT that will have an interchange station with the future Seletar-Bukit Merah MRT Line in the future.
