It's not surprising that the characters are good, PM has always been pretty great at making great characters. Even in lobotomy corporation all the sephirah and the backstories are great and the world building is wonderful
The characters is good and unique having their own personality and thoughts just like the characters in the prequel and the prequel of the prequel game (LC and LoR)
7:16 a little context; the book she’s based on is about an amazing artist (considered the best in the land) commissioned to paint a brutal, brutal folding screen depicting the Buddhist hell for a Lord. Unfortunately for the artist, they can only paint what they see, and so inflicts brutal torture upon their apprentice. Eventually, the artist asks the lord to “burn a beautiful lady in a carriage so they can finish the screen.” (Thank you Wikipedia) and their daughter is the one burned. It ends with the screen being finished and the artists suicide by hanging. (Little clarification, the artist is male in the original story, but I’m using they/them because Limbus’s interpretation is female, so I’m mashing them together.)
I think the problem with the Bridget/Strive situation was more so the implications that were made deliberately or by accident. Because Bridgets entire story revolved around them escaping the gender identity forced on them (As they were forced by family and friends to be female or be executed, to put it simply), having them come out as trans felt like the message was "Indoctrinating kids to be trans is a good thing and leads to that child being happy in the end". I know people from all walks of life who are fans of Strive, myself included, and even my gay/trans friends thought that the message Arcsys/Daisuke insinuated by doing this was pretty disgusting. I dont think it was meant maliciously by Arcsys but theres no denying it does leave a pretty bitter taste as it spits on the characters development and implies some pretty messed up things. Another thing to point out is other characters such as Testament were basically made non binary and no one had an issue with this as it didnt interfere with their character or imply anything off. I truly believe that if it had been a new character that happened to be trans and didnt imply what was implied with Bridget, I genuinely dont think anyone would of had an issue at all. If a teenager came out as trans but was told by their parents that they would kill the trans person if they did, only for that trans person to go "You're right! I'm happy with what you tell me my gender is!", the trans community would be up in arms and rightfully so, yet they supported this exact same thing with Bridget.
I think Yahtzee Crowshaw in one of his Zero Punctuation reviews said it best. "When you are supporting something with no better reason than just being a part of it, then any discourse just becomes a huge shouting match. That's why arguing on the internet is like trying to headbutt a broncosaurus to death." Not to mention that the internet is one huge game of telephone. Hell even in my example I cant guarantee that I got the quote 100% correct
It's cool to have subjective take about the game you are playing and all and displaying such passion is always a good thing, but downplaying other games while you're at it done little for your game reputation tbh, i mean sure the game could be great but people who are curious about the game and is planning to play it and then see what you're doing is just gonna leave a bad taste in their mouth. also the title is pretty much misleading as the only example you use is Wuthering waves and I admit the story has its fair share of issues but to me you're just cherry picking a single game out of multiple different gacha game out there since wuthering waves is the only one you can think off :v One game isn't alot is what I am trying to say how about comparing limbus company to heavy hitter such as these gacha below? Fate Grand order Granblue fantasy Arknights Blue Archive Punishing Gray Raven Nikke Heck even Genshin which isn't a good game has a great story as well The question is how many gacha games have you played to be able to confirm without a doubt that's (ALOT) of games failed where Limbus succeed? TLDR: Limbus story is good, it is made for your taste and everybody else and feeling proud of it is good. Downplaying another game's story just because of your subjective taste is just cringe
I don't know if it is because I am such a level of anti-social recluse that I just don't give a shit about internet stuff, like for me the Bridget stuff was mainly weird because it felt a bit contradictory to her old story about wanting to prove their masculinity to prove their village wrong and to me then being now a trans-woman felt like it kind of just makes the village the victor of that problem which drove Bridget out their home to be a bounty hunter in the first place, and it just doesn't feel like it was done right at all, it creates really conflicting messages and morals in terms of gender identity, because originally a female gender identity was pushed on them as a child due to a superstition, then they try to prove it wrong and never called herself a girl until the newest game, and it really does just feel like they dropped the plot for I don't know what reason. It just leaves a really bad taste in my mouth to have a character who is trans but who had a specific gender identity pushed on them as a child, because in a way it makes this feel like it wasn't an internal realisation from the character but rather something more weird in terms of what we know about the way the village treated Bridget growing up, and it is a mess overall because it was really a almost throwaway line in the larger picture of the story going on. At the end of the day it is cool to have a Trans Character in Guilty gear but it really feels like they dropped the ball in the execution and that does deeply bother me, because of the un-intentional messaging it creates, which some people latched to when shitting on it, said un-intentional messaging being that you can be pushed into being trans, which is a deeply icky message to have hanging around a trans character and that only fuels transphobia, because people who don't know anyone trans see that and think "They are going to make my kid trans" because they don't know anything about trans people and then media has stuff like Bridget's story where you have very nasty implications for why they are Transgender, simply put if Bridget had achieved her goal to prove the superstition wrong and then developed into realising their gender identity as a trans woman it probably would have felt much better because it never feels like she proves the village wrong but rather like it validates their superstitions and weird behaviours. I don't give a shit about controversy but I do care about messaging and the effects that media depictions tend to have in the perception of things.
Something i really like about pm's writting in general is that you dont discover every part of the world at once making feel quite large you got the syndicates and wings as two different groups yes but each going into smaller and smaller groups in any other gacha game you would instantly talk to the head of the group and everything feels just so smallin comparison
Limbus character will always better than any gacha out there, the reason is simple. They're characters that exist solely for story meanwhile in other gacha characters are product first before their significance in the story. You can literally add or reduce any sinner and it won't change anything gameplaywise since the product in this game is the ID's stat and art. It's actually a concept that used by a lot of otome game with gacha system. I always wonder though why non otome gacha never seems to try it. It's honestly not that fun pulling for waifu that only appear in like only one event.
Alright ya convinced me to try the game. Oddly, I never heard of this game until recently stumbling upon Library of Ruina from a friend's wishlist and from the Path to Nowhere community. Usually I would prefer trying a gacha at launch to see where it goes, but I gotten rid of most of my gacha FOMO. And you're spot on about WuWa's story. I'm usually into mythological and prophetical stories but it just wasn't great. I just hope after 1.1, they ditch the whole prophecy stuff but even then if they do end up "cooking" with the story, the rough beginning makes the initial characters not really interesting to me. Though that was on CN's backlash that caused it to rewrite from CBT.
yea, i started with project moon with limbus (cuz its free) and i loved it as much as confused i was (and still i love it) in my opinion best gacha games in aspect of story is limbus and blue archive (i cant count arknights in cuz i only watched anime and listened to music + some story related video) i left honkai star rail and im mad at it because of two characters, and these characters are firefly and robin, like wtf, i love them so much but not as playable character. It would be much better if they would be for only some time and not as playable character. The reason why i love Yuri from limbus is that we cant play as her and her character design is goat Also other gacha games are like: LETS GIVE A LOT OF CHARACTERS AND MAYBE SOMEONE WILL MAX OUT THAT CHARACTER AND GIVE US A LOT OF MONEY FROM IT but limbus is like: okey, we have made a massive fuckin' world that is explained in library of ruina and lobotomy corp and in 2 web comics so lets just focus on wings. + lets make amazing cast of characters that not everyone will like but they'll fit perfectly in our world
12:46 actually the original scene says roseboy witch is more like a feminine man or something simulaor to that. the translation WAS IN FACT TAMPERED WITH by localizers not everything skirting the edge of gender is trans considering japan has a lot more things to describe stuff like that than we do its probably a translation mistake or outright localizer tampering (witch they do a lot)
Limbus Company was second gacha that got me hooked, the first one was Crusaders Quest but it ended because developers decided to give constant powercreep which turned game into a constant pvp and meta fest I love Limbus because while playing it for 486 hours (as I'm writing this comment) I didn't felt like game tried to get me in golden handcuffs and turn the game into part of my life routine. You don't want to play game because you are fed up with or just want to play other title, sure why not. And another thing is plot consequences and character development. In many gacha games you could just swap arcs, chapters or similar shit and nothing will change. In limbus you clearly see each canto plays important role which comes to another reason why i love this game. I hate when gacha has some stuff like, the plot is shit until you play for like 50 hours to be good for 1 hour. Limbus has a good story right from the beggining.
25:26 yep. Biggest regret in my life was not knowing what career I want and with my parents having me choose a college course to take, I wasn't able to pick one that could fit me. Pretty much I failed college cuz I can't make my thesis work.
