I live in Brazil and I was working as an Uber driver when I got this passenger who was a metalhead that reminded me of when I had long hair and he was going to his English course, after talking for a while about music, he loved trash metal and I was one of the few people in the city that knew Martyr and Quo Vadis for almost two decades now. Then, almost at the end of the trip, I showed him the first track of this album (Perpetual Healing). The guy was so impressed that I could hear him listening to it on his headphones after I dropped him off. 😆
I hope Voivod never ends. You're the only guitarist who could've filled those shoes, Dan. This is one of the greatest songs ever written, in my eyes. Keep being fucking incredible.
Hi Dan! Can we expect a collab or solo project from you at some point outside of Voivoid? I doubt a new Martyr is possible from what I heard. But, would not mind another tech metal project in which you would be involved. Still listening to Martyr regularly (sorry Voivoid does not grab me and I tried multiple times). Saw you a long time ago at a Martyr show. You were standing near to bathroom before the show and meet&greet people that were passing by. I found it cool from your part! I also remember that there were a lot of little local bands playing before you and some tech purist were bouing them and you came to the mic and ask the crowd to give these band a chance. I consider you as a gentleman! Love what you have done for the music and especially metal from Quebec. Thanks!
@@endlessorbaggins8223 it is spelled "Voivod" I wrote a lot of music on the last 2 albums, won Junos for them both and am really proud of them. Thanx for your kind words.I did a lot of guest solos through the years but I mainly concentrate on my Band since the last 17 years (Voivod). and Teaching music in College, plus freelance jobs as a guitar player. cheers.
Haha très cool! C'est toi qui m'a fait découvrir Cardiacs et c'est tellement un bon band... Plus on l'écoute, meilleur c'est. Rest in power, Tim Smith!
PLEASE add this song to your new setlists! I would absolutely KILL to see this song live, one of my absolute favorite Voivod songs and a prog metal masterpiece!
@@DanMongrain I get that. It's gotta be tough to come up with a balanced setlist when you've got so much varied material. Please consider it though! I guarantee most of us would be okay with this absolute beast of a song in the place of others for one tour! Thank you for your reply, I had the pleasure of meeting you guys at your show in St. Petersburg, Florida last year. You guys are amazing, much love!
Laval, Quebec, L'annee 2000. Maxime Vaillancourt mapelle pour me dire qui a decouvert le meilleur album metal all time. Hopeless Hopes joue encore dans mes ecouteur. Thanks Dan!
Wow, what a musical gem ! It is awesome to listen early recordings from someone who nowadays became one of the most unique, versatile and creative guitar player. It brings me back to the days when I was trying hard to figure out the riffs structure and solos from "Warp zone" without any tabs. Thanks Dan for all the music you ever made !
definitely one of the best tunes in progressive rock for the whole history of the genre. The Outer Limits is insanely good, one of the most significant albums out there.
@Dan Mongrain Is your guitar neck altered in any way ? The fret spacing looks a little smaller than standard guitars.. Those stretches are extremely hard to do !
the scale is a gibson scale, pretty standard but I got big hands, maybe not as big as Allan though but bigger than average. Very hard stretch especially the opening lick.
i just started playing guitar a month ago and your work in voivod and martyr is such a big inspiration to me, feeding the abscess has got to be one of the best tech death releases ever
