I believe that sewing is not just a hobby but a way of life. I'm Jennifer Hoffman, and I've been sewing since I was a toddler. I am based in the Saint Louis, Missouri Area, this channel is all about sharing my passion for sewing, embroidery, quilting, and making accessories. Although I initially started this channel to sell modern dog dresses, life got in the way and I had to take a break. But now I'm back, and I've realized that I have a wealth of knowledge to share with the world.
As a seasoned seamstress, I have seen my fair share of sewing products, and I know which ones are worth investing in and which ones are a complete waste of money. That's why I'll be sharing honest product reviews and recommendations so that you can make informed decisions about your sewing supplies.
I needed your video! Real people in real settings. coming up against real situations! Very well done, perfect pace & no excessive jabber-talking. Machine and frame arrives soon. so excited. THANK YOU.. you are appreciated
Thank you. I got my B77 in 2023 and it’s been a wonderful experience so far. I’ve made many things very quickly!! I just tried everything here in the video demo that you showed and it was fast and easy to make quilted panels for a backpack that I’m working on. Thank you! This changes everything! Also, in a year, I had not even used the computer guide to show the foot, thread, needle and stitch suggestions!!! 😅
I was soooo happy to find this video I have the same frame and machine and have had sooo many tension issues. Now I know it isn’t something I’m doing wrong. Thank you for taking the time to film this? I have been hesitant to set it up again after practicing and being frustrated. I am curious if it’s possible to make a quilt sandwich using the same fabrics to test the tension before setting the machine on the frame? I don’t have a ton of room to see underneath when it’s on the frame. Or, does the tension change when it’s on the frame?
I would definitely have some practice sandwiches on hand. That’s what I do. They don’t have to be very big either. At least you can see how things look without ruining your actual project. I’m struggling with this set up also.
I keep a small hand mirror in my sewing room so I can look at the back, checking stitches, onstead of having to do gymnastics to look at that. It's been really helpful.
I have a Cutie frame, Jazz II machine, and am just now learning about my break Sure Stitch Elite. Needless to say I’m now re-resolving tension issues I thought I had fixed without the Elite, so I’m double checking everything from setting up the frame correctly and adjusting tensions. I’ll get there. I am a little curious about your height adjustment. The Cutie instruction manual, and advice in various groups, is to have the back bar set so you can just get a fingertip between it and the bed of the machine, so that’s how I did it. But your back bar appears quite a bit higher in the video, and you set the height so that the front bed of your Jazz II goes under the front bar almost to the needle. What am I missing in my setup? Thanks.
“Break Sure Stitch Elite”? That should have been “new”. Thanks, autocorrect, for incorrectly correcting something that didn’t need to be corrected. <sigh>
I am SO grateful for this video! I didn’t realize that the thread went under the small metal plate. I had it on top and it kept sliding off which caused a lot of “unsewing”. Thank you for keeping sane! 😂
Thank you I had taken that part off so I could get a piece of thread off that was wrapped around the lever. In the meantime, the little light fell off as soon as I took the lid off, so I wasn’t really sure where it went back on until I watched your video and then I seen it just slid right in that little slot. Duh so --so glad you had a video to show me where I can put that little light back.
The Dime sticky hoop does not come with the ruler stickers. I am guessing because items are placed on the sticky stabilizer and covers the hoop frame. The Monster snap hoop(magnetic) comes with with ruler stickers
Thanks for the prompt response. Actually my 5x7 did come with the sticker rulers. On the DIME blog I found a crosshairs file to download and stitch onto stabilizer to use to position the measuring tapes!!!!
I got a baby lock jazz II last Tuesday when I dropped the feed dogs to free motion it makes a loud clanking sound and the fabric does slide easily. Do you know if anyone else has had this problem
There is usually a click when it goes down initially but if it continues to clank while sewing and the sound is coming from the feed dogs you may need to take it in for warranty repair. Are they coming back up normally when you re engage them?
I own a babylock jazz2 the eyelashes forced me to remove a lot of thread! So The fix was to increase the tension to 7 and if that doesn't do the trick increase it to 9. Have your stitch length up to 4 and the feed dogs down. Make sure youroving at a steady pace, jerks or catches of the material on the side of the machine will make a blurp. Practice and be sure to rethread your machine everytime you change the tension.
So whenever you change tension on the jazz2 you should fully retread the machine? If thar is the case, that may explain so many of the negative tension comments. I've never done that for my other machines but have to admit I rarely change tension. This machine will be dedicated to the cutie frame once it is all set-up.
I loved the video because I have a Jazz 2 and just set up my q-zone hoop frame. I have had issues with the Jazz just quilting without frame so I do not expect to go problem free. Your patience and suggestions were greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!
Thank you so much for making this video! I too purchased my b77 recently and appreciate all the help I can get in learning how to operate her, especially since it’s my first computerized machine. I am also a beginner quilter and have a question….after lowering the feed dogs to practice fmq, I can’t get the feed dogs to come back up again….even after taking a few stitches. Any advice would be greatly appreciated and thanks again for the video!😊
@@rosencollection5615 We did that several times but still had no luck. The dealer will take a look at it tomorrow. I just wondered if you knew of something I hadn’t tried. Thanks anyway!
@@rosencollection5615 yes, I did that too. Thank you for your suggestions. I really appreciate your quick response and will try anything you can think of!
It's very difficult to see what you are doing, when changing foot, etc. The camera angle would be better with a close up, and not showing arm, hands, etc which hides what you are doing. Other than that your delivery is ok.
The mats help so much with noise reduction I am able to embroider on my brother pe800 late at night and not wake my daughter or mother in law in the rooms next door.
Thank you so much for the videos featuring the Bernette b77. I’ve had the b77 for a few days now (April 2023) and these videos are very helpful. I am excited to try the free motion sewing. When you turned over the piece to the underside, the stitches looked pretty much identical to the top frontside stitches. I do have a question about normal sewing of two pieces of fabric, not a sandwich quilting set up for free motion. So when I put two pieces of regular quilting fabric together to do practice stitching, I really like the front topside of the stitches. They look exactly how they should, however when I turn the piece over, the underside stitching does not look the same. I downloaded the b77 sewing machine manual and I’m having a very difficult time trying to fix this. Everything I read here on You Tube as well as in the manual, says to increase the tension. I have the upper thread tension set at 7 and the underside stitch still isn’t as perfect as the top side stitch. Do you have any suggestions for me? I would truly appreciate any help. Thank you. Joan ~ aka It’s OK
@@rosencollection5615 Oh! I forgot about that even feed pull down foot!! I will try that. As for the bobbin weight…..I’m using a 100% polyester thread by Madeira. What thread do you recommend for the bobbin as well as the upper thread? I will be sewing on mostly cotton and cotton blend fabric for now. I want to try knits later on. Thank you SO much for replying so fast!! Totally appreciate it.👍😁
@itsok4656 I used 100%polyester thread typically Maderina or Isacord. The only other thing I can think that might ba an issue is making sure the bobbin is in and threaded correctly.
@@jenniferhoffman6920 Oh, one more question please. What is the average number you typically have your upper thread tension configured at? Thank you again so much.
I wondered why they didn't make it like my older machines that easily open. I love my machine but am not happy with the stitches all the time, especially the underside (not sure what it is called). So the stitching is okay as I am sewing, I test periodically with two different color threads but it still looks like an entirely different type of stitch, bunches up. This is not nice for quilting.
Thank you, this has to be one of the BEST videos for free motion quilting and the Jazz2 machine. You were having and solving issues at gome quilters have but are never shown in other videos. I have voth the frame and Jazz2 and have had the same tension issues and did just WHT you did to resolve. You are awesome 👌
I agree, very helpful, I thought the lights were the top thread initially, would love to have seen an enlarged still photo of the underside stitching. at the various tension levels. I corrected some of my issues just last week thanks to advice from another Jazz 2 owner, by following the bobbin winding to the letter.
I have heard that a stitch regulator can be purchased. Have you ever used such or plan on using such in a future video. Thank you for this video. Very informative and helpful.
Yes, there is a stitch regulator for the Jazz II. I would love to get one for it but at this time I have to hold off on more purchases to get a new sewing studio. But if I come across one I will definitely do a video on it.
Just got the stitch regulator. It controls the stitch length but I'm still have trouble when doing circles. Still get a little eyelashing on curves. And also I haven't learned to move at a good steady speed. I'm sure there is a trick to that I haven't found.
The most important thing I have learned is that going into/around a curve is to speed up and not slow down(opposite of a curve when you drive a car around a curve)
I own a Jazz2 and ordered a Cutie yesterday. Your video is great with showing how to set up the frame and machine from start to finish. You answered all of my questions on adjusting the frame. I am so happy that I found your video. Your are very good at explaining the process so that newbies can understand. Thank you so much. Now I look forward to setting my frame up when it arrives and set up my JAZZ2 with confidence.
Thank you very much. This is just what i needed to find for my project. I have a beautiful machine that has sat a year or so and not having a hard copy instruction manual out of the box is a big drawback to the Ease of Use , for an otherwise great product, and i really appreciate the videos on the b77/b79.
Does it really stay hot for 10 mins when not placed on base. Mine only lasts few seconds and then I need to put it back. Shall I look to claim warranty
Thank you soooo, sooo much for your wonderful and informative tutorial! I just bought the Babylock Allegro for my Cutie frame. I was having issues with figuring out how to make sure it fit on the stand and realized that I didn't have the back feet on the sewing machine frame! After watching your video and heeding your tip , it worked out much better!!!
I've been trying to use my Allegro on my Cutie frame and still having issues. I've tried adjusting the tension but still get eyelashes in the bottom. When moving my machine backwards, and quite a bit from side to side, it doesn't engage the bobbin and the upper thread breaks. I did want to note, if you are looking for a ruler foot, you will need an adjustable low- shank ruler foot.
I was wanting to buy the baby lock jazz 2 but I have read so many compliments about looping and skip stitches and nesting. Did you have those problems?
I have not had these issues that I have read so many others have. The machine is mechanical, so it does not adjust like a computerized machine can. I do find it to be a bit temperamental when I turn it off and come back to finish. Usually it is just a slight tension adjustment again and she is good to go.
