The original cartoon (presuming that it is from just 1 short) is about the most offensively racist cartoon I have ever seen. I say that as an old(er) White guy from south Alabama.
This song used to be sang by black people who were enslaved. That with the depiction of black people in this video makes this whole thing extremely racist. Holy shit.
correct. That change blurs or ignores the work load demanded of slaves. I'm not sure if you actually "picked" hay, even back in the 1800s... that seems like something more for a "hay rake," you know.
Great group of folks. Will try to learn this myself. Wish the camera wasn't in and out of focus though. And where is it that they put an E and the and of PART?
Super dance - the music as well as the choreo! And congratulations to the dancers. Good job! Is there a step sheet available by any chance? We would like to learn this great dance.
David, you sure do make that look easy and nobody looks as good as you doing it. Good to see you again and such fun to watch. Thanks! PS. Check out the Southern SHAG. That's what we do here in the SE, United States. We do also line dance, but much simpler than yours. The Shag is another story.
this is the stuff made for white audiences to reinforce ignorant racial stereotypes and excuse the shameful history of slavery and treatment of American black people. Field word on plantations was not the happy, fun activity presented in this song. Sad and terrible.
