Happy birthday, Wonderful IAN GILLAN! (19.08)
@bryansimmons4550
@bryansimmons4550 8 дней назад
It ain't Deep Purple without Jon Lord and Ritchie Blackmore. Gillan WAS the best singer out of all their lineups, so it's good he, Roger and Ian Paice are still at it. Kinda. That McBride dude doesn't even open SOTW the classic way that Blackmore did. Ritchie started it out at the 10th fret. He doesn't do Ritchie's fills in the verses, and his solo was pathetic. Airey is complete devoid of Lord's charisma and energy. I'll play my vinyl from the 70's , and watch old videos of the REAL band. Mk II was the best version of Purple ever.

Sorry disagree .. been a DP fan since the early 1970s, saw them live 3 times etc etc. Gillans vocals are weak, stage presence and energy is poor and (with one exception) they LOOK behave and sound like a tribute band of geriatrics

Sorry I never got to see Yes with Bill Bruford on drums. The first time I saw them in '72 he had just left the band only weeks before. Eddie Offord was behind the soundboard though mixing the show, that was pretty insane. The opening band was a little 4 piece group from Los Angeles, California who were seeing some success at the time with their first top 40 hit called, "Take it Easy." Yeah, it was the Eagles opening the show... for Yes! Bash me if you will, you're not going to like this but it's kind of sad to see Steve Howe playing with what is essentially a Yes tribute band. RIP Chris Squire. It is not quite the same thing without him.

The biggest who fan you could ever find here. Rodger is screaming but screaming underneath the recording of the scream. So it’s about 70/30 playback. The playback is still an unedited scream from roger however so don’t let it take away from the voice he has/had

Cool and is it live or is it Memorex is just all to common these days. When I worked in club land at one particular show there were a few girls that really could not sing but were very cute. Dull stuff, we could have found 100 other singers in a few days... I was always so delighted that NYC had an amazing music scene, till the sound board tech became the real talent. One guy I worked with passed up Lady Gaga. Enough said... ;)

If anyone is interested in playing this on guitar, the chords Groucho plays (as near as I can figure) are: Verses - C (A7) Dm7 G7 C C7 F F7 C Ab6 G7 C (1st turnaround - D7 F G7); Bridge: Em B7 Em A7 G D Ab6 G7. On the first verse, he skips the A7, but plays it on the next two verses. If you want to play along to the video, you’ll have to tune all strings down a half step to be at the pitch of the recording.
@jaelge
@jaelge 3 месяца назад
It's not his playing we hear on the mix, but he's definitely showing he can play guitar and knows this song. I wish he would´ve showed off his musicianship in their movies like Harpo and Chico did. Being a guitarist I would've really appreciated it. Guitar players were so underrepresented back in the day. 🤣
@jakollee
@jakollee 3 месяца назад
@@jaelge Yes, I agree it’s pre-recorded, and Groucho is sync’ing along to it, but doing a very good job of playing what one hears. I’d also have liked to hear more of his guitar playing in the movies!
