No - I am not one of those crazy mountain bikers who fling themselves off cliffs, over massive gap jumps, or shreds down 40% angled dh trails. But what I am, is an exceptionally average middle-aged goofy mountain biker who loves to bring you a smile, a laugh and maybe even gives you a whiff of some mtb knowledge on various trails, bikes, and locations.

Come for the mountain biking footage. Stay for the laughs.

Very interesting. I just demoed both the tallboy and the high tower. Love them both but tallboy sure was fun. I live in Florida not many ups. However there’s for every up there is a down. I’m wondering what that might do with that link. Great video though.

Just bought the Rocky Mountain Instinct PP A50 its great, motor is very powerful, and the battery range is really good. After testing the two motors (ep8 and Dyname) the Dyname is much better. Love the bike. And when you say "engine" triggers me its MOTOR. lol sorry.

@@hudsonisbetter Great choice! Yes I find the dyname a better motor…or is it engine? 🤔😜🤟🏼 However, I personally bought the Orbea Rise M20 with the new EP801 motor and really like it. Super natural feeling. Not as powerful as the Dyname but for a lightweight e-bike, I love it. Thanks for stopping by and congrats on the new steed!

Thx for the comment! I too found it rode almost like an XC or trail bike but definitely didn’t find it plush. I loved the “rides like an analog bike” feel but found it not stable enough on the chunk. I have both a 2023 Pivot Trail 429 (trail version) and a 2023 Tallboy V5, both are amazing bikes. I would say that the 429 has an edge on the Tallboy in climbing while the Tallboy has a slight edge on the downhill. Pivot does offer the 429 in an enduro version (Fox 36 / 140mm) that would probably compare to your build. I too am planning to upgrade my Tallboy to a Fox 36 140mm and cascade component link to make it essentially a “Highboy.”

I think you're exactly right. If you want the best bike for one aspect of MTN biking, the Tallboy isn't for you. If you want to have one really nice bike that you take care of and use for everything, it's one of the best choices. Personally, I'd rather have one 9k bike than two 4.5k bikes. I like not having to choose which will be better for the trail I'll ride that day, and not having to pick which to bring on trips. This is coming from someone with 7 snowboards, but those take up a lot less room in a truck!

I would agree on a lot here with you. I’ve had the same model Tallboy an regret selling it. I took that bike with stock suspension in some proper enduro trails and it handled it all very well. I also feel like a Hightower is very close. It pedals very well and takes a beating without blinking. At the moment I have a 2022 Bronson Mx, while it’s not as agile going up it compensates going down. I guess can’t have it all in one bike haha. My friend has a regular Mtn bike and a Sur Ron electric bike. I see your point about being able to ride more and explore. I think it’s important to be open minded to the benefits of an eMTB and extra advantages of a Sur Ron that gives you full throttle assist and closer to an MX bike if you’re into that.
@pedalpoonces
@pedalpoonces Год назад
Yes - I know MANY regular riders that absolutely despise E-mtb's. Unfortunately, in most cases, they've never even tried one. You can't help but smile and laugh when you're on a good one zooming (pedaling with assist) uphill! As for the Sur Ron (and similar throttle electric bikes), I'm not a fan of having those on mtb trails as they can (and do) trash the trails/corners/berms, etc. But on logging roads and double-track - have at'm! There is a slippery slope (pun intended) with how much power, tire size, and capability (the rider has) an e-bike should have on regular single track trails. At least with Class 1 e-bikes (no throttle, capped at 20 mph assistance, and only GO when you pedal), they tend to be very similar to regular analog bikes. Thus, can't do much damage to the trails OR too much damage to other riders (vs flying along without having to pedal on Class II and III e-bikes). The good part is there are more and more options for every different type of rider! We just have to be respectful of the trails and all other riders. Cheers!
@hardmtnbiker
@hardmtnbiker Год назад
@@pedalpoonces if you’re exploring backcountry roads it’s a great option to have a Sur Ron. They’re the same price and less expensive than many bicycle brand eMTBs plus are faster can be upgraded with Fox Forks and shocks plus Hayes, Shimano and Magura brakes. My friends is really sweet! I’m thinking about building up one myself
