Japanese games have always had superb beat 'em up and Hack and Slash combat, no matter what year their games were released. I think God of War (2005) was the first Western game to truly have a polished and satisfying combat.
watching TAS runs of this game is incredible, it truly shows all the things the game is capable of. like dropping a thrown item by throwing it behind you and you can punch it mid air to stun an enemy and kick it to bounce of the wall to do it again

The guy is defending a game that did horribly bad sales wise, and was bashed hard for it's cheap terrible AI that did endless juggles. Urban Reigns wasn't fun, it stole a lot of it's ideas from those crappy Def Jam games and half the time it felt like a cheap version of the WWE 2K games. It was basically a better balanced Tekken Force but other than that you lied and claim that characters glow at you in the other games. They didn't do that in all the games, only Batman did that and I think you can even turn that feature off. I know for a fact they never did that in any AC game I've played. But Urban Reigns had limitations. You tap the button several times and the character does the full punch kick combo. You couldn't mix the attacks with a string of punches and kicks because the entire combo was chained to one attack only. How does that equal, "better?" That to me is boring and repetitive.

i feel you man after playing the (arkham series/old assassin creed not the new ones cause the gameplay is boring and Grinde/shadow of mordor and war/sleeping dogs/spider-man ps4 and ps5/ mad max/ryse son of rome/star wars jedi fallen order and survivor. i feel burnt out from playing the same game under a different name.
Could say the same about Dark Souls, look how many knock offs there are stealing the gameplay from that series. Or the whole "you get hit once" instant death BS.
@@raijinthemaster88 right. there was this dude who review jedi fallen order and survivor, they complained about how mini boss you encountered would absorb your attacks like a sponge but as soon as they attack one hit could ether stun lock you or out right kill you instantly. oversaturation just has me ready to just give up gaming.😞
It’s funny that you criticized other games for “rewarding the player for no effort” yet a majority of urban reign’s “difficulty” can be entirely trivialized by spamming a certain handful of braindead attacks lol..
The Stańczyk in the background of Heavenly Potemkin Buster killed me, never expected someone to reference that. Though I guess it fits the lyrics of Armor-clad Faith pretty well.
i disagree that the problem with modern combat style is only the Y button, it's more like they don't feel satisfying which ranges from hit back, effect, sound design and the general speed and absurdity of the animations.
Why would he mention Yakuza when Yakuza clearly doesn't fall under that category of boring easy combat and the reason he mentioned God Hand is cause it's an underrated PS2 game just like Urban Reign
