Funny hearing George talk about not remembering his own movie. I remember everything on this movie lol.

I dont think its ideal to give another director creative rights to re-edit your film. But I understand these were different times & Romero was still not a big name in films in 1978. Well at least not in terms of being a big money maker. His few films were more marginal. Acquired taste. So investors were not lining up. But decades down the line even Romero became confused by how many versions there are of the film. In addition different countries censored certain parts.

I love how we're instantly thrown into the chaos & panic of it all. Romero questions the pacing of the film but I think its perfect. It starts big & ends big with a whole lotta fun inbetween. Romero sure knwos how lucky he was to have that huge Mall as the main set. Its such a big part of the films identity. It gives the film levels of meaning.

Watching the chaos & carnage in the mall Im thinking who the hell cleaned it all up before the mall opened the next morining? cause it all seems to be filmed on site. Like they said, they would never get permission to do this now. Malls were relatively new back then. Not as bogged down in legistics & insurance.

That’s actually a really good point that never gets talked about. The cleanup crew were definitely the real MVPs of that shoot. Haha

I disagree with George the scenes of them enjoying the mall & arcade games is too long. I love it. I want more. I feel like we needed to see them enjoy the Mall & all its pleasures. Cause thats what viewers imagine life would be like stuck in a mall with full run of the place. Plus we want to see Roger having fun in his last couple of days alive. I also dont care that the zombies change color under different lights. Also I want my horror blood to be RED. Thats what we imagine blood to be like & we dont care about realism. Brown blood is not great for horror fantasies. I feel they obsess over these technical things that viewers dont really notice unless theyre really anal. It should be a bit cartoonish. Most of the great horror classics are low budget. Its the heart(and art), passion & energy we love. And the characters. This film has awesome characters we root for.

Absolutely. George was always his own harshest critic. Most great artists are though. But I couldn’t agree more with you.

opening scene is great. pulls you straight into the chaos. films usually have a slow build up but this flys straight out the gate.

There is a lot that I like about Land for sure. I honestly think that if it was called “Dead Reckoning” as George originally intended, I think many fans would have a higher appreciation for it. But when it’s “of the Dead”, it’s going to be compared (fairly or unfairly) to the original trilogy. And while it technically does exist in the same universe as the original trilogy, it’s a completely different type of film because George was in a completely different place personally and professionally.

Great show. Dead Pit brought me here and I look forward to catching up on all that I’ve missed on your page. Romero is my favorite director. Sorry, that I was late for the party. 🙂

That scene of the 4 main characters flying over the area in the helicopter reminded me of the same thing that was done in the original Night of the Living Dead at the end of the movie.

It should be explained that " Zombie" is Dawn of the Dead presented by Dario Argento. Argento helped Romero fund this movie. In return, Argento was given premission from George Romero to have the right to the European cut of Dawn of the Dead Dario wanted all the music to be preformed by "Goblin" and he wanted a more serious tone to this version.

I watched Bruiser for the very first time less than 6 months ago on Tubi; a decent film, not Romero’s best, *edit: but worth a watch; a departure from Romero’s previous work.
