I am a lifetime fan of Lego and an eternal student of Science and Technology. Lego enabled me at a very young age to learn so much about mechanical and electrical concepts. This hobby... no this lifestyle, has given me so much over the years. It is my goal to share my knowledge and passion with the Lego community as they have done with me. Play Well!
Fabulous! Your channel is always such a pleasure to watch. I realize that this is an older video, but honestly, about 80% of what you upload I really want to watch. The trailer pneu-electro sequencer at the end is very innovative - lots of motors and pumps and such - the end result is so - you!
I've thought about making a new outro in the same "Rube Goldberg" style but at the end of the day virtually no one makes it that far into a video 😅. The end of this video was planned to be the outro of every video but watch time is a very important metric to make sure RU-vid won't kill a video. I think it's still in the first 3 videos, eventually I just used the intro as an outro since it was shorter. I do appreciate the kind words, one of the best things about reviving this channel is all the awesome people I've talked to who share my interests 😀
Just have to say, as a fellow homeschooled person who knew about Dacta and always wished I could get the full LEGO education experience, this video speaks to me. I'd love it if you could scan every page of the books you find, as that workbook honestly looks like the kind of thing that would be awesome to print pages from whenever I have kids of my own someday (I am exactly the kind of LEGO nerd that wants to educate kids with classic 90s LEGO stuff yes). The thing I was most excited to see in one of those manuals was the capacitor car! I find that set fascinating because it came in a canister originally designed for LEGO dinosaur sets, so it looks rocky and cool for no educational purpose ;) But also, I find its unique capacitor brick intriguing, and the clever fact that you're supposed to build a generator with the pieces to charge it first and then rebuild it into the car when it's charged. You can't find that set anywhere now, at least nowhere I've looked. That's one where having the original packaging would be cool, but probably near impossible to find. My only experience with Dacta was a place that did educational summer programs, marketed as "LEGO battle bots." They used Dacta kits to teach mechanical principles and then challenged you to build battle bots from a huge bin of old LEGO. Those were fun times :) I remember seeing the old Mindstorms temperature sensor in their collection of electronics, and they demonstrated the old LEGO solar panel at one point - the little rover it was built into barely moved under full sun lol, but it was still cool. Anyway, seeing the teaching manuals and stuff is a window into a world that always seemed so elusive and obscure to me, so I appreciate you shining a light on it. I'm glad LEGO Education is finally available to the general public, but there's a charm and rarity to the old stuff that still makes it really interesting.
I had been searching for those catalogs for many years now, it was such a good feeling to finally find them. I'm looking into getting a good scanner for all the stuff I've found. Some of the teachers guides and books are on Archive dot org along with some of the software. I love to use the DACTA Control Lab in my builds with the official software. If you search "Lego DACTA" on my channel there are several other hauls like this with some really cool finds. I hope to one day make some videos on the individual sets I have along with the curriculum but I feel like that's a ways off with the way life has been going lately. I never knew about the packaging for the capacitor car, I'll have to keep an eye out! It sometimes takes many years but I have had some great DACTA finds by constantly searching auction sites. One of the best things about starting this channel is to find those few people out there with as much passion and nostalgia for Lego DACTA 😁
While discussing Lego DACTA in Discord today (come join us if you are a discord user!) I made a playlist featuring most if not all of my haul videos that include Lego DACTA items or curriculum. There's some really cool stuff in there, hopefully I can one day complete my DACTA collection 😁
Physical paper books will outlive us all. Excellent haul! Please do scan those and tell us where we can find them. I collect books like those as well, and even have scans and prints of books from teachers that I found inside the older mindstorms boxes. ❤
Digging up my childhood parts considering restoring my single passenger wagon, I somehow held onto 10/14 rare clear blue train windows but none of the frames. Those windows don't look good with the standard frame...
Yeah I really wish Lego would start making the train windows again... or more train sets in general 😅. The MOT line was so cool, it would be awesome to buy individual train cars again
Can the micro scout communicate with the RCX brick? That would have been cool if it did. I know the 2.0 was rumored to have the ability to interact with Spybotics at least.
Sometimes I still think I should have stuck with the DACTA Control Lab but I think the remote + RCX + NXT solution is much better for many reasons. It's also more expandable once I integrate more things into the build. For example a claw to (pretend to) unload the hopper wagon using another NXT controlled by bluetooth commands.
BrickStickerShop. I have entire videos for the Maersk project. I pieced them all together from Bricklink and used dark azure instead of Maersk blue to save a fortune. I also didn't use the grey doors on the containers since they were only in the Maersk set and a couple VERY exclusive sets
I don’t really like the 9v because I cant make reverse loops, witch are my favourite thing to make in my tracks. But I might have used 9v for yards if I could find any to buy
I have used 9v in yards and then RC track for the rest of a layout. It's much easier to make small switchers with 9v instead of trying to cram a battery box in one
Some of my older videos focused more on Mindstorms. I hope to eventually make videos about the old Mindstorms sets but have never had the time to devote to such a project

Loving the progress, gives me inspiration for my own attempts. Keep up the great work!
I've heard this many times and tried it on a few boards years ago. It was actually shown on camera in my second video on the channel. In my case the LCD ribbon cable was always to blame.
So wait, is that IR link sensor the same as the IR receiver sensor? Because back when NXT stuff was still sold, I bought the IR receiver for it so I could make remote-controlled Mindstorms robots. I don't think I ever even thought about using it to SEND signals... But it'd be neat if the two were one and the same, as it just struck me recently how rare the HiTechnic sensors are since I couldn't find any on Bricklink - at least not any I could afford. I guess I figured anyone serious about Mindstorms would be buying them, but I guess that also means those who wanted them were serious enough to keep them, so there aren't many for sale... EDIT: Oh yay it is a bi-directional sensor lol. That's pretty astonishing actually, really opens up possibilities for more than 3 motors at a time and even for PF remotes acting as remotely-mounted touch sensors. Can't believe I never knew that. Well now I wanna build robots again...
I couldn't remember if the IR Link sensor was bi-directional but was so glad to figure out it was. It can send and receive RCX messages and send PF commands but I don't think it can receive them. I have an IR Receiver sensor as well if I ever needed that functionality. So glad I picked these up in a lot on Ebay like 8 years ago, they have been invaluable. Mindsensors make some very useful sensors but nothing like the HiTechnic IR Link
Controls are kind of my thing 😅, it's definitely content you aren't likely to find elsewhere. I kind of expected these videos to max out at a thousand or so views each but so far they seem to be doing much better than that. Plenty of comments as well, which makes it all worthwhile. I just make the videos I want to make and then it's up to the algorithm to "giveth" or "taketh away" 😅
Thanks! I wanted those so bad as a kid! Even when I saw the display at Toys-R-Us they often didn't even work. We've talked in our discord a few times how cool it would be to combine Lego GBC, RC and Mindstorms to create a Roken-Bok layout out of Lego 😁. Maybe one of these days I'll give it a try
It's Starmachine2000 by Wintergatan. It's linked in the description towards the bottom. Very happy they allow the use of their music on RU-vid! I've used many other songs in videos as well 😀
Pretty sure I've seen it used before, I think it looks better than having them all along the sides without the gaps. It feel like something Lego would do in a set as well
@@BatteryPoweredBricks Heh, I found you for your train videos and that stuff some months ago, you insipired me to make a red maersk locomotive, you probably have seen it, anyways, what I want to say it's that I just love your channel and what you do in general!
Still working this out. I have 2 inputs left on the NXT I could use but the pneumatic switch has been very reliable so far (after increasing the pressure a few PSI). The only time I have issues is when the IR message is missed. I think I'll just have the NXT confirm it got the message to the RCX or else the RCX will just send the message again
I feel like I tried that years ago but I don't remember having any success. It also seems like one of those repairs that will work for a while but will just break again. Like repairing XBOX 360's with a heat gun. The swaps made sense for me, some battery compartments are just beyond salvaging and I don't care to mess with the old fragile screen cables. If I can put two together into a perfectly functioning unit that's what I prefer
These wide curves are definitely quite practical. Although I don't have my Airport Shuttle set up at the moment I might just get some large curves like these and mount them to the wall. Could be cool. Maybe buy a 3d printed monorail base so I can have a monorail displayed in direct sunlight without it being an expensive official model.
