Welcome Investing in Regenerative Agriculture! In Investing in Regenerative Agriculture (investing as if the planet mattered) podcast show I talk to the pioneers in the regenerative food and agriculture space to learn more on how to put our money to work to regenerate soil, people, local communities and ecosystems while making an appropriate and fair return.
The images are really good and Matteo is such a wealth of knowledge. Thanks for documenting more of this amazing farm. I just wish you wouldn't interrupt him so often to answer your own questions or repeat what he said
Hi Eduardo, thanks for your comment and we love Matteo as well. Regarding the style of the interview, they are meant to be conversations to explain concepts to a wider public, not only to people already in the agricultural space. But again, thanks for sharing your perspective!
As an Architect who thinks a lot about healthy buildings - healthy indoor air, healthy materials for the planet ( in use and in their production ) I was fascinated by the thought that soil health could be simply measured by its respiration ! Meaning healthy buildings are buildings that 'breathe' and healthy soil is soil that breathes...
Hi thanks for your comment and very glad you brought your experience from the architecture field. Happy to see commonalities with buildings, agriculture and health.
Hi Tom, very glad you enjoyed our conversation with Felipe. We can tell that the farm looks amazing and Felipe is such a wealth of inspiration and knowledge.
Thank you so much. If conventional farmers could see the stark difference between this syntropic example and the degraded land round it they would be interested in redisigning the cash flow frameworks established in their minds.
Another thing is, as pointed out by Joel Salatin (I think), is that the size of the farms in Europe don't necessarily require the huge tractors that we see when the farmers went on protests. The acreage is small in comparison to African, American, Russian and Australian sizes of farms and ranches. Depending on situation, I think farmers in Europe can scale back the size of the tractors (and spend less on fuel).
Hard pan caused by tillage by machinery tractors and all in 'tradtional/corporate ag' stops/hinders water procelation causing seas of excess vapour in atmosphere. This disturbed hydrological cycle triggers extreme and abnormal events and also acts as the foremost green house effect provider
Well said. We explore a lot in this direction in our water cycle series investinginregenerativeagriculture.com/water-cycles-series/ and especially in the episode with Millan Millan investinginregenerativeagriculture.com/2023/07/28/millan-millan/
Methane emissions from animals....is.....trivial. Swamps, Rice Paddies Lakes and Oceans utterly overwhealm Animals. Regardless of the Source....1.) Atmospheric Methane doesn't last long. & 2.) Animals aren't new. There IS NO CLIMATE CRISIS. There is an Agricultural Land Misuse problem that Destroys NORMAL CONTINENTAL HYDROLOGICAL PATTERNS... resukting in far fewer Rainstorms....but more severe Storms. Basically the same rain amounts....but too often "All at Once". Healthy Soil CURES that.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! We explore the role of animals in the landscape in many of our conversations (they are also available on RU-vid) investinginregenerativeagriculture.com/category/role-of-animals/. We would love to hear your feedback on them too.
The Expert Consultants at Advancing Eco Agriculture (AEA) have developed a Proven Process for TRANSITIONING Farms from Dead Soil Industrial Farming to Regenerated Soil Farming.....WHILE MAINTAINING or Increasing Profitability. Soil Carbon can increase quickly ONLY with Healthy Plants with High Levels of Photosynthesis -- Usually 4 to 6 times higher Sugar Production than "Normal" Industrial Farms. That is a remarkable phenomenon... like turning 1 farm into 4 or 5 farms (in terms of Plant Productivity). Their Proven System involves timely Plant Sap Analysis to formulate Targeted Foliar Spray Mixtures that optimizes Plant Nutrition...which then optimizes Photosynthesis... which then optimizes Plant Health resulting in NO PLANT PESTS and NO PLANT DISEASES. This is TRULY REVOLUTIONARY Agriculture Technology. The Future of Agriculture REQUIRES Soil Regeneration.
24:54 - you can't talk about agriculture emissions with a straight face IF your also not talking about soil and biome carbon sequestration. In less than 10 years one can change stabilize weather patterns. This has been utterly and unequivocally proven . Alpha lo substack for the receipts. When continued waking-up to the small water cycle happens, mark my words - YOU will be paid to drive your petroleum automobile for the carbon emissions needed for plant growth. my words are genuine.
The Bionutrient Food Association got to the same conclusion. Did you already listen to the latest episode with Dan Kittredge? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-t0Nggxp6cAc.html
I'm just coming over from the podcast to give this video some needed engagement. The takeaway that the number 1 indicator of nutrient density is soil microbiological activity is a seriously important finding. Also, I need to learn a good deal more about the omega 3/6 ratio and the various implications for what I eat and feed my family. Recommendations on concise explanations welcome.
Happy you enjoyed our podcast!! More info on Dan's work here www.bionutrient.org. Lately we also really enjoyed reading the “Ultra-Processed People” by Chris van Tulleken.
In the PE world the only true ReGen fund that's throwing capital deployments into land at scale in the US is Farmland LP. I'm seeing a number of funds labling themselves as "ReGen" but upon close examination they're really buy, rent, get an organic cert, and flip, utilizing nothing more than cover crop and maintaining the cycle of corn-soy or timber. Then there's the next area which is debt funds that are slinging credit to farmers (who already carry too much) and "AG Tech" which is pulling the usual VC feed and flip model. Meanwhile, the Acre Traders and Gladstones are still in the conventional chemical cropping cycle. At the same time developers are parking multi-family and mini-storage on anything they can get their hands on.
I'm a lifelong environmentalist, but handing this kind of power to governments that are beyond any doubt thoroughly corrupt is a set up for an Orwellianism (already well under way) that redefines Orwellian. Mass corporations own the apparatus of government. No doubt they'll leverage this to sideline even more of their competition than they already have.
@@investinginregenerativeagr8568 It's all about rolling up an asset class and increasing market share, and they will run whatever psyop is nescessary to do that.
This is the third episode I have listened to on this channel. I also caught the host’s interview by John Kemf on the AEA channel. I find the perspectives into the nuts and bolts of regenerative agriculture very interesting from the South Pacific to Africa to Europe to North America endlessly fascinating. I particularly enjoy listening to farmers and ranchers from New Zealand to the U.S. talk about that when they decided to go regenerative they asked, how fast can I do it, why didn’t I do it earlier, and who do I find to buy all the additional farm products I am producing on my land? It’s about making money again and getting out of debt, instead of making some kind of noble sacrifice. As to committed ecological warriors, bless you, but put away your virtual megaphones, find something is this regenerative world you can do, and get to work. You probably already have the education. You just need experience.
Thanks for your comment, happy to like it! You might enjoy as well the new docu series by Peter Byck Roots So Deep rootssodeep.org . We interviewed Peter a few months ago ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lyQf1R2v_pE.html. Looking forward to your feedback!
Hi Cedric, thanks for your comment! Actually the footage is of a previous period on the farm compared to the period we recorded the interview, so the audio in some moments can't match with the video! Hope you enjoyed it anyway!
Started listening on the podcast but moved over to RU-vid so that I could SEE your walk. I love seeing rather than just hearing what individuals are doing on their land. Seeing how we can work with nature and how nature flourishes around human imputs and influences. It helps me as I attempt to implement same or similar concepts on my own land.
Wish someone would invest in my regenerative agriculture. The municipality said no to almost all the things I wanted like a pond or even a fence so i could have animals grazing.. The predominant mentality is they need to cover everything with cement and cars and anything wild is seen as ugly and useless.
That fear keeps me off from even asking. Even learn the language. As long you are doing stuff within common interest and not bothering others, you should be free to do it. Once you get told the ruleset of the year in details, you loose any hope and with it might leave the happiness and motivation
@@joeeigo9820 no I think it's a necessary evil in Italy to also learn about and try and figure out the bureaucracy and closed mindedness. For me it has been about forming a group to rewrite the local "norme rurali"
beautiful! hard to go wrong in many parts of Italy as working with nature is part of their culture of good food. Especially places like Naples which have periodically been covered in volcanic rock!
Love the idea of this being a series! Definitely want to visit Europe / Italy soon and now I have someone else to visit! Thanks for putting this up and helping to move us in the regenerative direction
THINK OF THE VITAMINS, MINERALS, TRACE CRIMINALS , ETCETERA, THAT ARE BENEFICIAL TO LIVESTOCK AND LIVESTOCK EATERS THAT COULD BE MISSING BY NOT UTILIZING NATIVE PLANTS.
I was Corporate Research Director at Farm Journal from 1984 to 1985. There were no farm programs, and many farmers went broke, but everything was shaking out and it was about to reset when they brought back the big farm programs... Big mistake.
I am listening to your video: "The Next Agriculture Economy - Chris Newman" but it won't allow comments. But then you say you wish this was an open discussion.
