While growing them in cups I pinch off any buds on both my tomatoes and peppers. So they can spend that energy in growing into healthier plants. I don’t know if others do it, but it works for me 😊
Potatoes in containers makes it an easy harvest. I transplanted tomatoes and other plants after my last frost date and then we had a few really cold nights and the plants didn’t like it. I think next year I’ll wait a couple weeks past the last frost date on the warm loving plants.
I was trying to kill everything under cardboard, instead of digging and tilling, so I left the cardboard for a few months. Well, I just went out and removed it to plant something, there were tons of snails. So Googling around, they said to lure slugs and snails away from your plants, by giving them a cardboard hideout. So I have just shifted the cardboard to the garden walkway, and hoping the hot sun just scares the snails away from where I want to plant tomatoes and Cucs. It was pretty hot here in VA today. I like the San Marzanos because they grow quickly, and resist predators alot better than big tomatoes. Thanks.
I never thought to lure them away but that makes sense! I might try doing this to the other parts of my garden where I also want to kill some weeds too. Thanks for watching!
bigger transplants can help. I grow most everything, including my brassicas, peas, beans and squash, cucumbers inside and transplant, otherwise the slugs and snails eat the sprouts right off.
I agree they could benefit from being bigger and stronger, I still need to figure out the most ideal timing for starting them indoors so they are a good size come transplant time.
Hi, glad to discover another Ontario gardener. :) I'm in the GTA, and while normally I'd be super busy this time with all manner of gardening tasks, I got diagnosed with carpal tunnel in both hands in Feb and had bad flare ups, so have been advised to take it easy this year as treatment will be slow. I had a lot of expansion plans, which have had to be scaled back, and now I gotta try to figure out how I'm gonna manage the plants I've already sowed when my hands can't be used much...! That's still not stopping me from sowing some tomatoes and squashes though haha. In the meantime, I'll be living vicariously through youtubers like you. :)
Technically you would be checking both. The test is just a very simple at home experiment to get a general idea of pH. If you really want 100% accurate results I would recommend sending to an accredited lab.
I am an animal lover so I am planting an area of clover and collard greens to give animals some plants, as I live near a wildlife corridor. It is so inexpensive to get a few extra packets of seeds to give plants that can support the wildlife and hopefully still have a vegetable garden. We will see if it works! Thank you for the great video.
Hey. First time grower, been doing loads of research but can't find much good deer control tips.. I think I'll try to keep my cabbages close to the house instead of by the garden
The only way I could get sunflowers to grow was to sprinkle some cayenne pepper around the base as well. The rodents will chew them up otherwise in my area. This tip is effective.
A method I've used to deter slugs and cut worms is to mix very fine ground up egg shells and mix into the top inch of soil around the seeding stem. The sharp edges cut the worms and prevent slugs from getting to close, worth a try!
May i ask why you north americans always prefer to sow seeds in raised beds or pots even though you have land soil available. In india and pakistan people who usually live in very small houses prefer to plants seeds in pots otherwise we use our land soil. Your opinion matters alot for education.!
Welcome! there are many reasons, control of soil and nutrients is one. For example in many areas where I live our soil has heavy clay which can be difficult to grow plants in successfully, unless the land has been worked for many years. Creating a raised bed or planting in containers almost guarantees that you will get a harvest in theses cases. Keep in mind also, many people in the west garden and grow vegetables as a hobby rather than a necessity. I hope that makes sense! 🙂
@@dreamgreendiaries203 so what if our raised beds or containers have rich nutritional soil as compared to big lands whose soil is not that nutritional then would you prefer to grow vegetables and fruits like watermelons and tomatoes which need deep roots to grow.? Many experts say that these crops need abundant land so their fruits would be big. I hope you understand my question.?
New subscriber here! I have a channel where I share gardening and more. You got some great variety! We love peppers around here. I am looking forward to watching your garden grow!🥰
To cold for us to try here in Saskatchewan. But I did get my tomato seeds planted indoors yesterday. 😊 Do you think you could post a link to the seed trays?
Yes! Try it out for yourself, it's a great way to hold on to all those tomatoes that would otherwise go bad. You could even process and can them later when it works for you! 😊
My grandmother grew up in the countryside of the state of Virgi,. She and my great-grandmother used to make pig feet in the oven. It's awesome to see how others on the other side of the globe in a different culture make them. And it's an honor to have you visit our channel, we can discuss more about our experiences in harvesting and building farms.
Your garden looks wonderful especially since the quick move. those squash vine borer are horrible. The national pickling cucumber did great for me. tfs
