Welcome to Squibble's Crochet Corner! I am Samantha, the amigurumi loving, animal adoring, plant collecting owner. I am a self-taught crocheter, cat and chinchilla mom, wife, and hospice nurse. Let’s crochet beautiful things together!
@@F3mal3Titan so happy to hear you are starting to crochet amigurumi! I would recommend starting with a worsted (weight #4) acrylic yarn. If you are in the US, Michael’s, Hobby Lobby, and Joann’s all have great options in stories for inexpensive acrylic yarns!
Currently I have 2 free pattern tutorials on my channel. You need to have an understanding of basic crochet stitches to be able to crochet my patterns. Each of my patterns on my website details the skill level and materials needed. A “How to Crochet Amigurumi” tutorial going over the basic stitches is coming in the future for those that have never crocheted before!
@@joannepeyton1654 thank you! If you have an understanding of basic crochet stitches you should be able to crochet them. I’d say they are an advanced beginner skill level.
This is my easiest pattern! You can start there and then move on to the harder ones 😊 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xHfWi6fZo98.htmlsi=H7rxj1pHdKBgRjev
Same! I see it as helping people feel confident in my other patterns that aren’t free. Plus I benefited a lot from wonderful creators on RU-vid who shared free patterns when I was first learning. So it’s a way to give back. ❤
My whole childhood I always thought I hated sweaters, then I found a sweater that wasn't knit with Red Heart Super Saver and found out I just hated the yarn my mother used when she made sweaters. My grandmother tried to persuade me to learn to crochet with that yarn, put I was more than willing to spend the extra few dollars to get yarn that didn't literally rub me the wrong way.
@@gaylewinds4808 the type of yarn you use makes a huge difference! I thought all acrylic yarn was that scratchy until I started exploring more. Definitely worth the extra $1-2 to crochet with higher quality yarn!
I have that same backpack. I bought mine and three of the ladies from my Happy Hookers group bought one. We have 2 purple and a green one to go with my black one. We love these bags. I've had mine about a year and it is still going strong despite all the stuff I've crammed in there for this or that project.
I noticed the Bundaberg bottle straight away, it's brewed in Bundaberg, a small city in Queensland, Australia. Its my favourite! Also it's most famous for it's rum, as Queensland is a sugar cane growing area. We call it Bundy Rum.

I don’t think your intro is too long. As a crocheter, I turn a video on and watch/work. I rarely click off a video unless it turns out to misogynistic or offensive in some way. Your video is great. I’m subbing.
2 minutes into the video and I haven't seen a single crochet accessory. I'd like to keep watching but I'm already bored. Please start your video by getting to the point right at the outset.
Thanks for your feedback. I am relatively new to RU-vid so still trying to figure out the best way to do things. I usually like to give an intro with background information to my videos prior to getting into the meat of everything but I totally understand if that’s not your preference. Always willing to take constructive feedback.
@@SquibblesCrochetCorner Check your engagement rate on this video. If it's under 6%, it's likely due to not getting to the point. Peeps on YT have SHORT attention spans. If we click on a video to see amazon crochet items, and 2 minutes in there is still no Amazon Crochet Item shown - we leave. You may like long intros- but if the engagement rate is not there - it's telling you your viewers do not like long intros. 🤗
If you can’t maintain your attention past two minutes, how the hell do you manage to crochet? If you are going to offer criticism to a relative newbie on RU-vid, at least be constructive rather than whiny. Be kind. It won’t cost you anything.
I think I need that chair!!! 😍 Can you share details on the shelf you have behind you?? I’ve been looking for a shelving solution that’s closed but still allows me to see my yarn!
Hi. I am in love with these tips especially with Smaller Hook Size! It's so simple! I never thought of using that for my projects. I am going to try it! Thank you for sharing - Nancy❤
@@GiftsHQ glad you love the tips! There are so many simple and inexpensive ways to improve your amigurumi creations and using a smaller hook is one of my favorites!
It’s hard to explain all of those terms in a RU-vid short so I actually have a full video on my channel which is linked in the video explaining everything.
Thanks for this video it is very helpful! I will have to try out some of your recommendations, I really struggle supporting hobby lobby with their political beliefs but I’ll give this yarn a try
Yeap, same here..& not to mention they were involved in purchasing 1.6 million dollars worth of stolen Iraquis artifacts back in 2010 w/out any documentation. It's like buying a used car w/out any proof/documentation, which, honestly, they knew it was stolen. ✌️
Excellent set of tips for improving technique and for preventing hand pain when crocheting. I am new to amigurami so your tips really helped. Very professionally presented, also. Thank you from a new subscriber! 👍
I agree that I Love This Cotton is excellent, but I Love This Yarn is sooooo pilly. For anything that is going to take wear or have to be washed, I wouldn’t recommend it. However, IF I am going to make an amigurumi in acrylic (I prefer cotton) I like Hobby Lobby’s Yarn Bee Soft and Sleek. Great stitch definition, and no pills.
Interesting insights! I’ve never actually washed any of my yarn creations so I can’t speak from experience. That’s good to know if I should ever have to wash something. Thanks for the recommendation!
You crochet very similarly to me so it’s nice to watch you stitch. I place my right index finger on the loops on my hook to hold them while stitching and I also pull the yarn back tight after completing each stitch. I’ve noticed you do the same, if that makes sense. I’m gonna try the yarn under technique as when I’ve done amigurumi in the past, the stuffing always showed through the holes. I could’ve been overstuffing too. I bought your mossy mushroom and car hanging plant patterns and printed them off. Excited to start
How cool!! I haven’t seen anyone crochet like me before. I have tried to crochet without using my right index finger and it’s so hard not too 😂 it could be over stuffing but it could also be your tension. I definitely recommend trying the yarn under technique to see if that helps you create less holes. I hope you enjoy the patterns!
I have the same printer and the ink lasts so long . I’ve printed out so many patterns, tags, and miscellaneous yet, I still have plenty of ink left and I’ve had mine for 7-8 months.
