Hello Tyler, I am half way through the video. I like the way you’re started with RU-vid! Keep it natural and be “better” in time. I am thinking of going on RU-vid too. But I will wait a bit. I started cycling tours in 1977 with ordinary newspaper bags and plastic bags to start with. It worked. The experience is all that counts! Now after so many more trips I will start bikepacking next year with the GDMBR! I am looking forward to this adventure. All is new; that is ; the bike, all the bags and most gear. Also this new trip will be filmed with a drone too. I am so excited! I will follow you in your quest for trips and RU-vid building! Thanks you so far!
Spent many years riding mtb round the world and then 3 years ago got a Carbon Gravel. 40mm Schwalbe G Ones and a carbon seatpost for the bumps and mine goes everywhere my mtb would but weighs 8kg.....no brainer
I've been look at the Katahdin all summer., but there isn't much out there about it. That tire clearance is calling to me. One of my current gravel bikes is a Kona Sutra LTD. It's got loads of tire clearance (29 x2.4) but it's a very "dead" feeling bike. Thanks for the video!
Yeah, I saw that one, one of the Million. Oof, bro. Brakes are important, you gotta have coach skillz to rip without brakes. Shoulda just stomped it flat and kept on going at Mach 7 unless a tree got in the way.
Gravel bike is very similar a mountain bike BUT not a mountain bike. Mountain bikes are built tough. 29er can take both 700 c , 27.5 and 29ers. While a gravel bike can ONLY take a 29er up a point then you have to go down to a 27.5 for a wider tire. I like mountain bikes,cx and hybrids because of that
Those brakes look like they needed a bleed (and also a top up) :D I'm a little surprised and very happy that the helmet was as effective as it seemed to be considering the damage it incurred.
I have both a 29inch Hard Tail and a 29inch Full Suspension. I typically switch the crank and chain ring out for a 52t in the front with 50-52 in the rear and 10t in the lower for the best gear range. I have Maxxis Assegai on both front/rear of my hard tail and train myself to ride at road bike speeds on road and trails. Road bikers usually get annoyed when I am keeping up with them on a bike twice as heavy. My next upgrade for my hard tail is a i40 rim for front and back, 29x3.0 tires and Onyx hubs to make it a monster truck.
I dont have a gravel bike...i have a 20 year old TREK hybrid bike with disc brakes and wide tires has stood the test of time...goes every where...Gravel is only a word...would not trust a carbon fibre bike off road or anywhere else !
yeah i have both bikes!! but the main diffrence for me is the drop bars. my hard tail is so versitle and is almost as fast as my gravel bike, but it really is no comparison on pavement totally agree
@@princepage632 ya man. I did do a bike trip where I needed the hardtail so I fitted up aero bars and it did great. I have Maxxis Rekons on it and they also help as they roll fast! Thanks for your thought man. It’s been fun talking bikes with folks.
I have 2 setups, less than 10 minutes to set up depending on ride I’ll do that day, and both can cover a lot of varied surfaces: one for road/paved trail with Al seatpost and road saddle with wheels 21mm int rim width, 28-32mm slicks (Michelin, conti, panaracer); and second for rough trail with Redshift pro suspension seatpost, mtb saddle and wheels 25mm int rim width with low profile 42mm tires spec pathfinder pro for example)
Currently shopping for a new gravel bike, I was commuting everyday on a gravel bike until December 2023 I got wiped out by a ccar that cut a junction here in UK. I needed 3 months to fully recover and since then I've been commuting on my full sus trail bike while waiting for the car drivers insurance to pay out for the cost of my bike that was trashed. My bike was alloy frame with SRAM apex. Thinking this next bike of going carbon with wireless shifting.
@@Tylerbybike Thank you, I've recovered as much as I can. My left shoulder will always be in pain sadly as it can't be repaired properly. I've been looking at a Canyon Grizl 7 and a Lauf Seigla core, both carbon and wireless. I think the Canyon edges it for myself due to UK brake setup and its SRAM Rival AXS.
I have 1 bike - a gravel bike - I do have 2 sets of wheels in case I wanna do more road-centric rides or more rowdy gravel trips. It's worked out so well, I can appreciate a roadie who wants their go-fast machine or a MTB bro who wants their downhill full sus machine - but for the mixed surfaces and places I ride ( and who doesn't believe in N+1) a gravel bike is all I need !
Great video Tyler! I just bought a Taiga EXP 2 this spring and I was between that and the Katahdin. Wondering if you had that reflection and what swayed you towards Katahdin? Keep up the awesome work (squirrel!)
@@bikegan Hey man, thanks! I think I went with the Katahdin because I have a few other bikes. Including a salsa cutthroat. So really wanted a gravel bike that was a little more aero but could also handle some rough stuff. I also have the Taïga and I absolutely love it. I have made another video talking about how pack it up for bikepacking.
Dude, your channel is my lifesaver.I decided to start bikepacking but have no idea where to start, but when i found your channel from this video,i got so many inspiration ,thank you so much❤.
Hi Tyler , please don't make your channel perfect, I prefer it that it that way , it makes it feels real I think personally, I'm new to bikepacking and look forward to your content 😊.
Hey Jason, I really appreciate that man. I got a ton of ideas that have been bouncing around on my brain for years. I’m excited to share them with everyone. Thanks for subscribing man.
