Thank you so much! We’ve had a real problem locking the back door, it got so bad my wife couldn’t lock it at all. Half an hour after seeing your video it’s fixed! Brilliant.
Dave this is brilliant & seems so simple but will it work the same (as in, is it the same problem/issue) if I can lift the handle & the bolt shoots but I then can’t turn the key to lock it?! When the door is open the handle lifts to the same position & I can fully turn the key to the lock position but as soon as the door is closed, the key won’t turn enough to lock 🤷🏻♀️ Any tips gratefully received!!
You need to open door, pull handles up, then close the door to and mark on the frame with a pencil the location of the door lock, open door and then adjust the frame locking mechanism to be within those lines 👍🏼
Worked brilliantly for me. To get the best position for the moved plate I put a piece of masking tape on the doorjamb and marked the positions of all the levers locked/unlocked and then split the difference, old plate was set about 10mm too low.
Hi Dave. Can't thank you enough. We were having some trouble with the locking system. You saved us a lot of trouble and money. Keep up the good work. Blessings.
Great stuff. It's new years day and my door handle wouldn't even lift this time. Decided to give it a go and it worked. U saved me at least 200 quid calling someone out. Thank you sir
The mechanism isnt moving in mine keys turning but nothing popping out to lock the door. What do i need to do please. Whenever I call someone out being a woman they charge me an arm and a leg.
Daughter has just moved house and has just this issue. Is it just trial and error in deciding whether it needs moving up or down ? Hers is literally a couple of mil out I guess as its 90% engaged then you need some elbow grease. I’m terms of all the screws with such a minor adjustment how do you go about finding a fresh place to screw into or that the plate doesn’t slip into the old screw holes ? Thanks
This is total rubbish.... it may fix it, it may not... but that strip is not the problem....The door has dropped and needs repacking, adjustment could possibly be done via hinges... But what you have to work out is this door would of worked when new and that strip has not moved!! So what did! I would not listen to someone who thinks he knows, but in fact knows naff all!! This is a total codge job...!
God dam thank you man. Have been trying to lock my girlfriends parents house for the last hour ffs just have to yank it up hard and lock easy, only took ten seconds of your video lol
Hi Dave. Fantastic job. How is the back where the bin is ? Is it screwed and you unscrew it when removing the bin ? Or did you build some sort of sliding mechanism ? Thanks
This has been a life saver, going on holiday tomorrow got my 18 year old niece staying to watch the dog and the back door decides its not locking.done this at one in morning and good as new. Thankyou
You have done that totally wrong your door will only last so long before doing it again. Nothing to door with the strap. Your door has dropped you need to toe and heal it back
How do you fix one where the handle won't go all the way up when the door is open ? Alignment on the frame side it's fine , on the door mechanism itself the handle doesn't quite get to the locking position even when the doors open
Unfortunately this didn’t work for ours, had about 20 cross head screws, and 3/4 stars shaped screws, one of which was rounded off(near the main lock in the middle) so couldn’t adjust the long metal strip, as one screw was still holding it in place. I did however, manage to move both upper and lower parts freely with my hand, whilst the upper and lower sections were pulled away from the door, but the handle still wouldn’t budge. The problem seems to be by the handle area, but I’ve took the handles off, can’t see anything I can adjust there, as it’s inside the actual door. I sprayed lots of wd40 on it after putting it back together, it’s a lot better after oiling, but this only lasts a few days before the handle gets stuck again. So annoying, been quoted £60 for the local lock smiths to come out, not including any parts they may need to replace
